Risk and Disease Never Beat a Hero Despite his wealthy and educational background, he was not only a hero because of his presidency. He was a unique president, he suffered from poliomyelitis (Polio) disease which disabled his legs. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Commonly known by his initials FDR, he was the thirty-second president of the United States of America. FDR Knew that he would have to deal with the Great Depression in his first term. Nevertheless, he knew that he will deal with the war he still took the risk and ran for office for the fourth time. Risk and disease never beat a hero to take actions to save a nation and the world. When president FDR was 39 years old he found out that he had poliomyelitis (Polio) disease. . He tried to regain his capability to use his legs by swimming therapy for several years, but it did him no good.He was unable to use his legs at all. None of the reporters printed the fact that FDR was unable to walk, and the photographers avoided taking pictures of him in his wheelchair. Which amaze me that his public …show more content…

He felt that with Poland, France, and the Low Countries overrun by Hitler's forces and Great Britain standing alone, that he was still needed. FDR did not feel the need to cling to power just for the sake of holding power. He helped the people during World War II. He helped Great Britain to face Hitler's force, he signed the Declaration of War against Japan. and he believed that every country should have its own government without another country interfering. The fact that FDR had to run for office more than three times to use such a powerful position to help the world is an outstanding act. Moreover, FDR didn’t use his position to increase his own wealth or power this reason alone makes him a president of a different kind by comparing FDR to other presidents especially today.
