Risk and Disease Never Beat a Hero Despite his wealthy and educational background, he was not only a hero because of his presidency. He was a unique president, he suffered from poliomyelitis (Polio) disease which disabled his legs. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Commonly known by his initials FDR, he was the thirty-second president of the United States of America. FDR Knew that he would have to deal with the Great Depression in his first term. Nevertheless, he knew that he will deal with the war he still took the risk and ran for office for the fourth time. Risk and disease never beat a hero to take actions to save a nation and the world. When president FDR was 39 years old he found out that he had poliomyelitis (Polio) disease. . He tried to regain his capability to use his legs by swimming therapy for several years, but it did him no good.He was unable to use his legs at all. FDR did not feel the need to cling to power just for the sake of holding power. He helped the people during World War II.
