The topic that I would like to talk about is gang violence in the United States. There is a lot of violence that has been going around and it continues to go around. According to the CDC 80 percent of gun related deaths are gang related. One of the main cities with gang problems is Chicago. In 2016 there was 762 murders, 3,550 shooting incidents, and 4,331 shooting victims. This was an all time high. This is a major problem and something needs to be done about it, and fast. A lot of people are losing their lives for no reason at all. There needs to be more police patrolling the streets and making sure people are safe. Most of these gang related shootings happen in low poverty areas and no one is really doing anything to fix this problem. The governor
ethnic groups occurred in every ‘transitional’ neighborhood, the ‘succession’ of African Americans out of their areas of ‘first settlement’ was systematically blocked” (Hagedorn 197). By doing the aforementioned the white gang’s behaviors have contributed to the racial segregation of Chicago and the explosive gang related crime in the present day south side of Chicago.
Hi my name Daja Pulphus and I attend Bronzeville Scholastic Institute located on the southside of Chicago. There are a variety of problems in my neighborhood but the biggest problem is the gang violence. I would solve gang violence by first encouraging parents to teach their children that joining a gang can ruin lives; lead to criminal records; and, ultimately, to prison. Also, encourage schools to actively participate in identifying gang members, removing graffiti, resolving potential conflicts among gang members, and providing parents with information on gangs. If I were to invite any five people –past, present, or future–to dinner, I would invite the famous Martin Luther King because he advocated for African-Americans, women and veterans
This past Saturday, October 17th in the 23900 block of Avalon Blvd in Carson, California, yet another victim of the massive racial fight genocide in our South Central Community was shot and killed. 15 year old Latino boy; Adalberto Saucedo III. According to a source’s comment at The Homicide Report’s website, Monica described Alberto as “a loving kid, he loved his two brothers and they looked up to him”. I can’t help to pose the question: what could Alberto have done to deserve this? However, based on the information provided by the LAPD, we will probably never know and he will become another sad statistic.
According to the past summaries ledgers provided by GunViolenceArchive.org the number of gun related incidents has increased over the past three years, along with the number of children deaths. Furthermore, as demonstrated by the charts, the number of deaths has been steadily increasing over the past three years by about 1,000 deaths, a crazy number that should be going in the opposite direction.
[ACT: sounds of gunshots] First a warning, then a deadly shooting. A gang-related attack has taken place in Los Angeles. Gabriella Rasso has more on the shooting.
must follow the guidelines of the use-of-force continuum including all aspects of civilian apprehension rules. It should mandate that all officers attend mandatory training before placement within multicultural communities; wear a body camera when in the field; report excessive force incidents using the correct documentation; complete police reports immediately; and assure that follow-up investigations will be handled internal/external resulting in criminal penalties for officer’s who ignore these rules.
This topic is of interest because violence is everywhere but it seems like it has escalated more and more over the years. I want to talk about the crimes of violence involving different ethnic groups and how much of an increase or decrease over the years it is. I would also hope that there are ways to prevent such violence. How violence on television and radio is effecting the younger generations minds, causing them to act out that violence. How seeing and growing up in a violent household affects children. Seeing violence, watching violence or even listening to it has an effect on peoples mind and sometimes has major consequences. How violence has now evolved and racial profiling in violence affects more
For my final paper I am going to talk about a program that in my eyes is a great way for our youth to receive different views and healthy choices when it comes to avoiding and confronting gangs or gang members. Gang Resistance Education and Training, abbreviated G.R.E.A.T., and provides a school-based, police officer instructed program that includes classroom instruction and various learning activities. The mission of the program is to provide a range of activities to our kids to keep them away from gangs or related activity as well as educate them on competency, usefulness, and personal empowerment which will prevent them from
Youth violence is a problem among young teens because it causes a division, which unfortunately result into gangs. Moreover in the past, gang violence results into youth crimes such as robbery, and drug sales. In this new generation, the youth resort in selling marijuana and heroin, even more than crack cocaine now, this means where the drugs are is where the gangs are, also the weapons to protect to their territory. While writing his article Michael Blanding quotes a young man of 16 years of old named Sharodeny Finch, who said, “People get tired of wearing the same damn jeans”. This young man was referring to the fact that he gets tired of the gangs, and tries to do the right thing by finding an actual job. But when he got turned down his response was, “ You try to do the right thing, find a job to earn money, and you can't. You got a block right here, you know what I'm saying?” Basically Finch is explaining that, sometimes young people will try to escape the gang life, but when they try and do not get what they intended for, they go back to the gangs. This overall shows in order for the youth not to resort back to the gangs, they have to be dealt with in the proper format. Gang violence does not have broaders, however in the urban areas of Boston it tends to receive the most attention. This problem causes emotional stress, group tensions in communities, and many other troubles. This issue tends to thrive in communities that already have drug addictions, and low property rates. Moreover, gang violence influences these other issues to worsen over time. Therefore, youth violence should be a priority to resolve for it causes and affects many other issues in Boston.
In todays United States we have a huge problem affecting society, gangs and the violence that follows them wherever they go. These days’ gangs aren’t just compiled of grown adults, they often lure in young teens to do dirty work and to add numbers to their turf. Despite laws aimed straight at these gangs they still defy the law and wreak havoc upon the territory that they claim. The members in the gang have a gang first mentality and will do everything possible to provide for and protect their fellow members. They will very rarely snitch on their own to help put a stop to some of the meaningless crimes committed by these savages.
Imagine more school shootings because someone had access to automatic weapons and big mags. With gun control there would be less shootings in general, due to the inaccessibility to automatic weapons.
With the leading number of gangs in the country, Los Angeles is thought of as the gang capital of the world. Employing gang suppression strategies that take distinct forms, from anti-gang injunctions to high rate of incarcerations, the City of Angels has failed to live up to its angelic name. Known instead for its demonic gang activity and police suppression efforts, Los Angeles has taken over media headlines as one of the most dangerous places to subsist. Representing a worrisome issue for residents, visitors, city government officials, as well as urban planners, gang violence has rapidly become a threat to public safety. Although current-day gang culture has eased off on the violence, it continues to be one of the greatest planning challenges
Great post. I truly don’t believe that the mere presence of guns will increase the incidents of gun violence. There is always going to be some form of gun violence no matter how many guns there are or how many people see guns. If firearms were to be completely banned it would upset a lot of people which in return could lead to more gun problems then there already are. If you try to keep people from getting guns their simply going to find alternative illegal ways to get what they want.
The purpose of this paper is to review and verify a recent study by Scott H. Decker of the University of Missouri – St. Louis, entitled Collective and Normative Features in Gang Violence (Decker & VanWinkle, 1996). The study will attempt to address why our local increase in gang violence has reached monumental heights causing an increase in gang members appearing your court.
An issue in society that I feel should be highly addressed as a priority is gun violence. Gun violence should be top priority in the community and in the world from a broad perspective. The reasons for my beliefs are the fact that innocent children are dying because of ignorant acts of violence by the hands of the youth, with guns. This should be a priority, to inform the communities that educating ourselves on our youth and how they are considered the future and if we do not snatch them up and teach them life, it can wipe out civilization to a certain degree of a particular race. Since the Trayvon Martin incident, which happened almost four years ago, I have noticed that the shootings in certain areas have increased significantly. Not only is this an issue that is progressing, these issues are mainly brought to the forefront when people feel the “system” or law enforcement has done an injustice act. I chose to address gun violence because I saw the news recently and it showed that guns are becoming problematic in this country. In addition, in my neighborhood, I have witnessed over (10) ten shootings, which have been at the hands of the youth. We see that there is a correlation between gun violence and the youth within the African-American community. It should be one of the country’s highest urgency to address because children are more likely to buy a gun than actually finish school. This is a
