Where does crime come from? I ask myself time, a time again. Over the years the crime rate has grown excessively. If it’s not law enforcement using excessive force on us, it’s gang’s members killing their own. Could it be due to growing up without one parent that had played a part of destruction? The fact that maybe the child was abused. Maybe people just want to be followers instead of leaders. This is an issue that brings concerns to me. How can we continue to have children in a society that’s not safe? My interest in this is because of 11/16/2017 on my cousin’s birthday, she got shot by gang members. Now even though the bullets weren’t for her, she got hit. Now I do believe this matter could have been prevented. The reason I say that is …show more content…
A 10-yr-old Chicago boy by the name of Tavon Tanner was shot. The young boy is a fifth grader who had to under several operations to repair the damage from the bullet. Tavon was playing out front with his twin sister when someone fired as many as nine shots. He collapsed as he followed his mother through the front door. His twin sister, Taniyah held his hand and told him not to leave her. Tavon has a damage pancreas, intestines, kidney, and spleen. The bullet entered his lower back and lodged in his chest. How about Antwon Golatte a black man shot by Chicago police. The city independent police review authority (IPRA) ruled that officers were unjustified in shooting Golatte. Two days before the shooting, Golatte’s car was search without a warrant by the same officers that shoot him. He felt like he was being punish for past transgressions a period when he was running with the wrong crowd. Now that he’s turn his life around. Golatte did document the alleged harassment but never made any complaints. The officers that fired their weapons at Golatte are Jaime Gaeta and Harry Matheos. Gaeto has 20 misconduct complaints and 13 wrongful use of force complaints. Matheos has 14 misconduct complaints multiple illegal searches and one alleging unjustified use of force. But none of these complaints was
In todays United States we have a huge problem affecting society, gangs and the violence that follows them wherever they go. These days’ gangs aren’t just compiled of grown adults, they often lure in young teens to do dirty work and to add numbers to their turf. Despite laws aimed straight at these gangs they still defy the law and wreak havoc upon the territory that they claim. The members in the gang have a gang first mentality and will do everything possible to provide for and protect their fellow members. They will very rarely snitch on their own to help put a stop to some of the meaningless crimes committed by these savages.
Gang violence in youth has gotten to far there are more and more juveniles getting recruited by gang members in society. We here all these gang violence going on and sadly most of the gang activity that goes on is done by juveniles. Being a part of a low income society I see what kind of people are involve in gang activity and many mostly all are under age making them strive for respect with our fearing consequences. Like sated on the LAPD websites the fill us the community in on how early gangs start recruiting juveniles as described on their web site it sates “Gang involvement can begin as early as elementary school. Children as young as seven or eight years of age have been recruited to work in criminal street gangs. Many parents and educators
Dynamics of Gang Violence: A Look at the Social, Biological, Psychological, Developmental, Substance Abuse Factors and Gender Differences
Youth violence is a problem among young teens because it causes a division, which unfortunately result into gangs. Moreover in the past, gang violence results into youth crimes such as robbery, and drug sales. In this new generation, the youth resort in selling marijuana and heroin, even more than crack cocaine now, this means where the drugs are is where the gangs are, also the weapons to protect to their territory. While writing his article Michael Blanding quotes a young man of 16 years of old named Sharodeny Finch, who said, “People get tired of wearing the same damn jeans”. This young man was referring to the fact that he gets tired of the gangs, and tries to do the right thing by finding an actual job. But when he got turned down his response was, “ You try to do the right thing, find a job to earn money, and you can't. You got a block right here, you know what I'm saying?” Basically Finch is explaining that, sometimes young people will try to escape the gang life, but when they try and do not get what they intended for, they go back to the gangs. This overall shows in order for the youth not to resort back to the gangs, they have to be dealt with in the proper format. Gang violence does not have broaders, however in the urban areas of Boston it tends to receive the most attention. This problem causes emotional stress, group tensions in communities, and many other troubles. This issue tends to thrive in communities that already have drug addictions, and low property rates. Moreover, gang violence influences these other issues to worsen over time. Therefore, youth violence should be a priority to resolve for it causes and affects many other issues in Boston.
I have observed that individuals and communities, and institutions think that poverty, gang violence and child abuse is what represent who you are and where you belong. Going through poverty, gang violence and child abuse would lead individuals in the wrong direction in life. When an individual or a communities see a gang member or someone they don’t care about that person because they say once you’re in the hole it hard to come back out. I just think it wrong for individuals and communities to judge people the way they do. People are the way they for a reason. Everybody has a kind heart. They made not seem like they do but they do. Their mostly likely that because there not given love or support. Like in the story said they in need of attention.
Gang Violence has been seen throughout the nation. From Compton with the now infamous Bloods and Crips to the Gangster Disciples that were born in South side of Chicago. Its been studied and shown that one of the underlying issues of gangs and gang violence is that they form in impoverished neighborhoods. Theoretically bundled within these "neighborhood effects are institutions’ and actors’ social networks that are the foundation of other neighborhood-level processes such as social control, mobilization, and cultural assimilation" (Papachristos, 2013, p. 417). This notion of geography creating more crime in certain areas is true to a certain extent. Whereas most people look towards Chicago or Los Angeles
Dealing with bullies and gangs would be a hard proportion of dealing with gang members that is around that are in the area that they live in. Those things are dealt with the people that has not have had proper things in their community but when they did not get it they did violet things to get what they wanted for themselves or an individual. Some gangs could be started in a community or at a school. They get started cause of the things that is happening around them and to see that other people are getting bullied so they join gangs to be protected by their gang members. This brings back up my theories with differential opportunity theory and strain theory. Gang violence that is done in a community is dealing with other gangs wanting to have control over that part of the community, and how that gets started is they both are trying to do the same thing in a neighborhood that they are in.
have you ever been in a war that at the end your hurt your own kind but make friend with others. Well in this essay you will read how two girls hated each other, but later they will become close. They will both lose someone that’s close to them, but one of them loses more than others.
I grew up where it was a lot of bad things happening in my city. I seen plenty of my friends lose their live at a young age. It’s not a pretty site tending a friend funeral that’s younger then you. Seeing everyone in the building cry is so wrong. Gangs where I’m from goes by what neighborhood you grew in. You not actually in it until you start hanging with the wrong people or repping your set like throwing up gang signs. I witness a couple of good people getting shot because they was at the wrong place and the wrong time. Gang violence is nothing to be proud of at all kids just need to have that come to Jesus speech in the room.
I think drugs are more of a problem for the juvenile justice system than gangs are. Although I disagree with you, you made quite a few valid points to pertaining to your reasons for feeling as if gangs are more of an issue for the juvenile justice system. You made a good point when stating that kids try drugs to experiment and often outgrow using them. However, not all kids stop using drugs after trying them. Many progress to harder drugs. When I was in school as a kid I remember being introduced to the G.R.E.A.T. program. I agree with you that this program is one of the best ways to deal with the gang issue. The program introduces kids to situations which may occur and ways to overcome or encounter them. I enjoyed taking the time to
The violence in America is increasing. Violence has always been and continues to be a problem all individuals are facing. This issue has been among the people because there is always something to encourage it. Since the news on television is continuously covering stories about murders and violent acts, it becomes a common thing for society to view. Furthermore, people are still racist till this day. Moreover, a certain individual can influence a person in a negative way. On the other hand, there are significant amount of people who believe the rate of violence has been decreasing throughout the years. Although some argue that violence is in decline, media, racism, and negative influences cause it to increase.
Tara described her primary home with her mother and two brothers prior to being forced out at the age of 11 as living in the “ projects” with gang violence present in the neighborhoods. After moving to her aunts until the age of 13, Tara has had an unstable living environment living in three different foster homes of which she ran away from and now the residential facility that she currently resides at is closing and she will be moved to larger residential facility. There is a concern about Tara being overwhelmed in this new facility due to its reputation of dealing with youth that have severe behavioral problems such as drug use and violence.
I am extremely interested and equally concerned about the complex issue of increasing violence in our inner-cities. I do not believe there is a debate about whether the problem exists but more about why this is happening and what can we do to stop this dangerous cycle. This is a multi-dimensional and highly complex problem.
Alcohol is a drug that is consumed the world over. It is not thought of as an illicit drug or drug at all; on the contrary, it is viewed as acceptable and desirable (Hanson, Venturelli, & Fleckenstein, 2018). Alcohol is connected to festivities, celebrations, and many other positive events. But, alcohol has a dark side when it stunts rational or thoughtful impediments on impulsive behavior (Hanson et al.,
Gang violence is a severe problem in the United States. It effects people in all sorts of ways. The death rate due to gangs is bizarrely high. They kill each other for no reason at all. Even if you’re not involved with gangs physically you might be involved financially. Taxpayers might not even know it but money is being deducted from their checks without their consent, possibly because a gang member shot someone without insurance and the bill has to be paid some type of way. Gang members can also effect tax payers by destroying property. Vandalism, like graffiti is a typical thing that gang members do to show what gang they’re in. No one ever thought about how that graffiti gets cleaned though. The “city” pays its workers to clean those walls and get that graffiti off. That money is really coming from the checks of the people in that city or town.
