Under the perspective of investment and funding, Gen Xers in the late 80’s and early 90’s are responsible for generating the potential for the internet and advanced computer technology needed to birth Facebook. Due to a regulatory change in 1978 that allowed pension funds to consider venture capital funds “prudent” investments, money poured into investment and the number of venture capital funds focused on technology jumped from 47 in 1980 to 71 in 1982 and 113 in
Before we can get into the juicy information pertaining to the fascinating period of Baby Boomers, we must first take a quick glance at what was happening before this occurred. The main event that came to a conclusion that had a significance to the world and is a recent and relevant topic to the Baby Boomer period was the end of World War II.World War II had been going on since 1939 when the Nazi army and the Soviet Union united invaded Poland, resulting in the British and French declaring war on Germany. The allies allow Hitler to commit illegal actions without deciding to go after him(they just sat and watch him invade and grow as the years went by).It seems over for the Allies until the Japanese decided to obliterate Pearl Harbor December
The generation of hard working Americans that innovated our way of life and catapulted us into the twenty first century is aging. This fact alone will lead to skyrocketing medical costs and a compromised lifestyle for those in the Baby Boomer generation. As a result, a large number of diseases will increase, including Alzheimer's. According to The Alzheimer’s Association, “These numbers will escalate rapidly in coming years, as the baby boom generation has begun to reach age 65 and beyond, the age range of greatest risk of Alzheimer's.” A shocking “estimated 10 million baby boomers will develop Alzheimer’s” and “by 2050, an American will develop Alzheimer’s every 33 seconds”
The Boomer that I interviewed recently retired but she said that for the most part, she enjoyed the professional development days and always found at least some helpful information that she could take with her. She especially liked the workshops that were interactive as well as those that incorporated small group work which enabled them to learn from each other. She said that when she was a young, new teacher she would often sign up for conferences that were out of town which focused on an applicable subject matter. Some of her team teachers would often come along so that they eventually incorporate the material together. She said that these conferences were very helpful to her. She especially liked the Great Expectations workshops she went
Boomers is a family entertainment centers located in Boca Raton which feature indoor activities such as carousels, kiddie swings, restaurants, amusement arcades, and outdoor activities such as miniature golf, kiddie rides, bumper boats, batting cages, go-karts, kiddie roller coasters, and laser tag. I told my mother that I want my birthday party at Boomers. She told me I could have my party there but, I could only bring two friends. It’s going to be so much fun, I can’t wait.
2017 was a busy year for Gen-x. This is the year when Gen-x truly came into the light of the public. A month after the consent order both Chemours and DuPont settled around 4,000 lawsuits in Ohio and West Virginia paying $335.4 million dollars. Though they both denied ever doing anything wrong. Half way through ’17 Cape Fear Public Utility Authority accepts and approves a letter from the Department of Environmental Quality agreeing to help evaluate Gen-x. In that same month, Wilmington StarNews published the beginning their Toxic Tap Water series it has a detailed explanation of the chemicals infection the Cape Fear water system. This opened way for the Department of Environmental Quality and the Department of Health and Human Services
non-Hispanic African Americans, who will represent the largest minority group in the Baby Boomer cohort (Frey, 2015). This segment of the Baby Boomer generation is projected to grow to 12 million by 2060. In 2014, African Americans made up 9 percent of the older population, but by 2060, this number is expected to grow to 12 percent (Administration for Community Living (ACL) & Administration on Aging (AoA), 2015).
As the Baby Boomers and Gen X-ers age, memebrs of these groups are becoming increasingly concerned with their future financial and physical well-being. Although Americans approaching retirement age are striving to eat healthier diets and contribute more to their investment accounts, there are additional steps that can help prepare for the future. Louis John Stanzione at Fairfield Green Enterprises in Summit, NJ, believes in offering additional incentives to their customers by connecting with new markets to ultimately provide American families with the coverage they need.
As the generation of babies born after World War II are known as the baby boomers, my generation will likely still be referred to as the millennials. This is due to many of us being born around the turn of the millennium. However, my generation was also the first to have modern technology interrogated into our academics, vehicles, and all other aspects of our personal lives.
Whilst a large amount of information exists in terms of generational cohorts, not all findings are supported by empirical research to link the concept of work engagement to the different generational cohorts. The conventional belief that older people are less engaged and do not find meaning in their work has been proven to be a misconception, which highlights the danger of stereotypical beliefs. The findings suggest that older employees are still very valuable resources and can contribute significantly to the organisation’s success, but have different needs and values than other age groups. The results of this study indicated a significant difference between the Baby Boomer generation and the other two cohorts, but no significant difference
I am a member of the Gen X generation. Gen Xers are generally classified as independent, preferring to work alone rather than as part of a team to accomplish our goals. We aren’t lured by small talk, and discussions about popular cultural topics, but desire to get the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible. As a generation, we tend to be aggressive to influence the expediency of accomplishing a task, and have no desire to rest until the work is finished. We have a solid work ethic. I agree with this classification and fit this steroetype. I desire to accomplish a task, accomplish it correctly, and sense appreciation for a job well done. I don’t place as much importance on getting along with people, though I do desire to be an effective
The "Beat Generation" often considered hippies, punks, drug users and alcohol, libertines, etc., born between 1948 and 1962.
‘I’d rather be a good person off the field than a good baseball player on the field.’ (Bryce Harper). Bryce Harper would rather help those in need than be a terrific baseball player. Bryce Harper would rather be known for helping those in need than his ability to play baseball. Bryce Harper gave a homeless woman a jar of money. Bryce Harper does help those in need, but wants to help more people. America's gift to Generation Z is baseball players who are role models; Matt Carpenter is caring and Bryce Harper is inspiring.
Generation X was individuals born between 1961 and 1981. There were 50 millions members of Generation X. Generation X was sometimes also referred to as the Baby Busters because it followed the baby boom that began after World War II. It declined in 1957. According Douglas Coupland, Generation X was born during the single most anti-children phase in American history. In the early 1960s, the birth control pill became widely available, and in 1973, abortion was
Most people have a learning style that mirrors how they were taught when they were younger. It should be noted that there is not a one size fits all method when it comes to learning. The key to being able to appeal to each of the different generations is to offer diversity in teaching styles in order to satisfy the different preferences. As of now, there are four generations that are in the workforce and those four generations are: The Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, and the Millennials. This paper will examine the characteristics of these four generations, how their learning styles differ, and what to
In my family, the three generations are all at a different stage in life. Generation one at the moment in stage eight of the Family Life course. In this stage, my grandparents who are still well are still achieving an everyday task that follows this stage. Some of these tasks involve retirement, grandparenthood, Chronic Illness & family Caregiving. In generation two the stages being portrayed is stages six and seven, launching, and empty nesting. Within this stage my mother is currently in the stage of launching, some of the the developmental task she has gone through are releasing young adults , accepting new ways of relating to young adult, maintaining a supportive home base, Sense of self changes. As for my Aunt Patty she is experiencing stage 7 empty nesting, now that my cousins are moved out she is
