General Psychology class was the most interesting and enjoyable class I have event taken. enjoyable class. the future. When registering for the class I had no idea what I was going to learn in the class. My expectation of the class was that it was going to be boring lectures of Psychologists in history. To my surprise it was something totally different, some questions about life and the way people think and behaved were answered in interesting lectures. The most interesting thing that I learned in the class was in the Human Development. This was interesting as well as important to me because I have children. This topic helped me to recognize the things that I was doing wrong or unacceptable as well as confirmation of the things that I was
After checking some of the websites about psychobabble and its meaning, I have learned that there is a lot of words used today by ordinary people, and Psychologist. Some Psychologist or Doctors will diagnose children with ADHD, but they have not tested these children properly to prove their diagnosis. Sometimes these children may be just bored or they need something to do that stimulates their interest in the subject that they are studying or they just have built-up energy and they may need more exercise in their daily routine, than other children.
Taking a Psychology class has taught me a lot about others and myself. I have learned a lot in this class and the information I retained will stick with me for the rest of my life. The knowledge I have gained will help me in the future by allowing me to be a better actress, CEO, and mother. The most important topics I will need are Lifespan Development and Psychological Disorders. These subjects can be unknowingly important when crossing paths with other people.
“It takes a village to raise a child.” I never quite understood that saying when I was growing up, but my experiences teaching and working in school settings have showed me how true it really is. Obtaining a degree in school psychology will allow me to give the support that students, families and educators need to ensure that every student will thrive.

Throughout the semester in this class I have learned many valuable things. Each topic that we learned every week helped me understand the process of human development in a very clear and enlightening way. I believe that every subject that we covered will somehow be able to help me throughout my life and I may not be realizing that it is. This semester, I really enjoyed covering three different topics: nature vs nurture, IQ scores, and the effect that relationships have on development.
I learned more about the level of learners that I have in my class. My mentor teacher told me some names of high and low level learners, but observing them being taught and teaching them are two very different realities. I also learned that even my high level learners were struggling second grade counting skills (ex: ten more, ten less). This lesson also re-emphasized the importance of modeling learning for students (I do, we do, they do).
The person that I decided to observed was someone that I did not know too well, her name is Maggie and she is in my biology class. Since, I have only known her for a few weeks and she is not in my psych class, I figured she would be the ideal person that I should observe because she would not be familiar with what I was doing. I was waiting in the hallway for my biology class to start when I noticed Maggie outside the building. Maggie pulls the door open with her dominant hand; the door swings open and hits the wall. She rushes inside the building before the door can close. As Maggie makes it inside the building without the door slamming right into her, she speed walks in front of this couple. Maggie approaches me and the only thing that is
In the initial grade appeal, I attempt to speak to Dr. Williams, the 103 General Psychology Professor in regards to my grade of an “F,” but he refused to see me or to let me look at my final exam grade. I received an email from Dr. Williams and he stated “I have no intention of changing your grade.” I had completed assignments that I never received a grade for in which I should have received credit, but I did not. I did not get satisfaction from Dr. Williams so I contacted Dr. Eborall.
In the study by McDonald and Borsook (2010), thirty students (18 female, and 11 males) from an introductory psychology course were offered course credit to participate in the study. They each were assigned to a two different study conditions. Each of the students took questionnaires, including an attachment style questionnaire at the outset of the study, and each were randomly selected to a different testing scenario. Some were selected to be part of a positive social interaction, and some to a negative social interaction. The study concluded that individuals with avoidant attachment responded positively, to positive social interactions. This contradicted the belief that these individuals hold on to feelings of superiority, and shy away from
I would say the topic that had the biggest impact on me was the topic about therapy and more specifically the different psychotherapies that exist. Before I took this class and even really read this chapter, therapy in my mind was what I now know as psychoanalytic therapy. However, now I have a clearer understanding of the different types of therapy, depending upon the psychological orientation the therapist may have for helping their patients/clients (if they have a humanistic point of view). Furthermore, there is also a separate division for biomedical therapies, which treats people with certain disorders through the use of medicine, which was very interesting. I felt last chapter really helped give me a realistic perspective on psychotherapy
The thing that I found most interesting in this class is learning about Greece and learning that they took Art very seriously. I never knew that the Greeks would be influenced by the Egyptians. The reason why is because when I thought of Greek’s I thought they were mostly influenced by themselves and I thought they got their art work from no one else, when in fact they did not. I also found the Revel to be very helpful as well when learning in this class as well and the reason why was because it not only has worded texts but it also has voice audio where you can hear the sentences being played out loud. It sounds kind of silly but that really does help me when it comes. If I had to work on one thing that I am most weak at the most I would have to say my vocabulary. Sure it may be very easy to others but for me I have always had a challenge with that problem. I do find that the assignments with writing the definition of art in essays also helped me a
Already getting started next year, I enrolled into a psychology class to get a jumpstart for when I go into college. I chose to enroll into the psychology class because the human mind is something that is very complex and diverse. By me taking this class, I am partially more ahead and more taught than that of a student who doesn’t take the class. And that way, when I get into the psychology major, I have a small intake of what it is all about.
I think one of the most important things I learned from the course content was how to look at different situations to explain certain behaviors or norms. This is the first sociology course I have ever taken, but I have taken a few psychology courses, and have found that while in this class my mind automatically jumped to personal explanations instead of societal ones. For example, when discussing deviance and the question of why someone would be deviant, my first thoughts were things like perhaps a personality disorder, or parental figures who were also deviant; it was harder to look at a broader picture and think about things like social class, outer controls, and eternal influences. Looking at and asking about sociological reasons behind behavior is an important lesson that I learned from this class.
I have learned so much in this class to prepare me for a successful college experience. There were some topics that caught my attention more than others. Such as, time and stress management, University resources, and critical thinking.
I feel like I learned a lot from this course. I think, overall, this course was very eye-opening and made me understand, and want to better understand, issues involving gender and how they effect society. I would say the one of the most important pieces of information I learned was just how much the idea of gender and gender roles influences everyday life. I had never really thought too much about the determents of gender or traditional masculine and feminine ideals before this class, and how we as a society promote and encourage the belief that a person’s gender or sex creates different innate, natural attitudes and attributes. Learning about how important society’s views of gender is, and how it affects the way we learn and think, makes me look at our culture in a different way. For example, before this class I never realized how much women are objectified and put under intense Photoshop in advertisements. This better understanding of the way society is helps me take a step back and look at our culture in a different way, and allows me to become more aware of the issues surrounding gender, sex, and the ideals of masculinity and femininity.
