Geography/Geology The land of Cook County can be very fun. Part of Lake Superior is located in Cook County. Lake Superior is 1,332 feet deep. The lake can get very cold in the winter, in the summer it isn't as warm as a smaller lake but it is not super cold. The lake doesn’t normally freeze over unless it is really cold. Cook County gets about 1,945 feet below sea level at one place, the rest ranges 1,190-1,944 feet below sea level. The Glaciers that were in Cook County faded away in 8,000 BCE. In 1850-2000 the land of Cook County was a swamp, mixed conifer and deciduous forest kind of land. Kalamazoo, Michigan has been around officially around since the eighteen thirties. It has long since a agricultural producer and has been growing steadily throughout the years as a metropolitan area. This paper will focus on the actual land itself mainly looking at the geological history, glacial formations, streams, wind landforms, groundwater, climate, soil, vegetation, agriculture, tourism, and a small summary of the community of the area of Kalamazoo.
When I crossed by the snow covered sign that read “Welcome to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness National Park” and looked at what surrounded me, I was beside myself. I didn’t know that trees could ever be so beautiful. The towering trees were the perfect shade of dark emerald green, and the way the snow piled on them looked like painting. I thought I was living a fairytale. It was the most beautiful sight I have ever laid eyes on.
1. In Chicago there were many different ritualistic events and activities in which the people were involved, many of which thousands of people would gather just to hear about. “Two thousand people gathered on the sidewalk and street outside the offices of the Chicago Tribune…” The people were gathered to hear the news about the big fair that was coming up. This fair was deep in the hearts of the Chicago people, just as the superbowl is in the hearts of Americans in today’s world.
Cronon, William. Nature 's Metropolis, Chicago and the Great West. New York, NY: WW Norton & Company, 1991.
Historically, Chicago has been and always will be a city of change both industrially and agriculturally to the metropolis we know and revere today with skyscrapers and culture abound. In order for the city to become the industrial hub, changes were made to the natural landscapes to accommodate business and residency. Steel became the staple good, and green spaces were demolished during the expansion of industry in the Calumet region by the masses in the creation of steel for railroad tracks and structural steel for commercial buildings. For geographical ambiance, The Calumet region of Chicago is consisted of the following neighborhoods: Burnside, Calumet Heights, East Side, Hegewisch, and Pullman, South Chicago, and South Deering. Cronulla is a beachside suburb in southern Sydney, it is located 34.0574° S, 151.1522° E which is 26 kilometres south of the Sydney CBD (see figure 2). It is governed by the Sutherland Shire Council. Cronulla’s coastal environment is on the Kurnell Peninsula, which is made up of a tombolo. A tombolo is a sand spit connecting a rocky outcrop or island to the mainland. So this forms a barrier between Botany Bay and Bate Bay. The two areas of study visited were Wanda Beach and the Greenhills Beach development.
The geography of Watts, Oklahoma is the inspiration of it's origin. This town is a product of the current, popular, transportation of the time. It was created to provide energy and repairs for the KCSSR. (The Kansas City Southern Railroad.) One example of geography themes that have affected the author, is the many people who he was surrounded by daily. Oklahoma had been densely populated with native americans. Also, the county poverty level resulted in out of date furniture and other classroom features. Which, in my opinion, are pieces of history in themselves. They contain "scars" from the past times and students of Watts.
Geography of Delaware. The southern boundary is swampland with over 30,000 large extent of swamp. The general geography of the Middle Colonies had a mix of the New England and Southern features but had fertile soil and land that was suited to farming. The delaware colony was founded in 1683 by peter Minuit and New sweden. The climate in Delaware was fairly well. They had mild climate, with warm summers and mild winters. The Province of Delaware was an English colony in North America that existed from 1638 until 1776,
Champaign County was first covered by the Illinois Glacier (191,000—130,000 years ago), which leveled the region and covered it in a deposit of boulder clay. The county’s topography was then formed by the Wisconsin Glacier about 20,000 years ago. As lobes of ice from what is now Lake Michigan crossed the county, a deep (up to 300 ft) pile of glacial soil was created and topped by numerous moraines (any glacially formed accumulations of unconsolidated debris) forming small, flat watersheds with no outlets. The moraines formed as the Wisconsin Glacier advanced and receded many times over the Midwest. The Champaign moraine system now crosses the county in a northwest-southeast direction, and between the moraines ridges are broad plains of what used to be swampy land, most of which has since been artificially drained.
The first example of both historical, scientific and cultural resources would be the Hausmann Nature Center. This small building included the history of the park, the history of Increase A. Lapham (a naturalist and the park’s namesake), a history of Native American’s presence in this area and proof of a variety of wildlife that make their home
The traditional working class nature of Pilsen is presently endangered by the gentrification of this mainly Mexican-American locality. The Pilsen Alliance, a waged people's organization created in 1998, coupled with city geography classes at DePaul University to carry out a building list of Pilsen in order to spot and coordinate around issues connected to gentrification.
There are a lot of things to consider before making a career changes, especially one as big as uprooting yourself from the business world in a major city to moving to rural farmland, learning a new trade from the bottom up. It is crucial to research your options before making any decisions. The advice from your colleagues in the text does bring up some really good points. If the article in The Wall Street Journal holds to be true, now would be an excellent time to get into the farming business producing corn crops if there is going to be an increased demand for corn to produce corn-based ethanol as a gasoline substitute. If there will be an increase in the demand for corn, the
The many local lakes such as crab orchard, little grassy, cedar, and Glendale lake provide the many actives from fishing, boating, and camping that the many local and even travelers from out of state enjoy. These activities provide many opportunities that other watershed population cannot provide. Such as the quality of water, fish and lakes or ponds that exist. The Shawnee National Forest lakes
In addition, Illinois' eastern border with Indiana consists of a north-south line at 87° 31′ 30″ west longitude in Lake Michigan at the north. The Wabash River continues as the eastern/southeastern border with Indiana until the Wabash enters the Ohio River. This marks the beginning of Illinois' southern border with Kentucky. Most of the western border with Missouri and Iowa is the Mississippi River. The state's northern border with Wisconsin is fixed at 42° 30' north latitude. Though Illinois lies entirely in the Interior Plains, it does have some minor variation in its elevation. Charles Mound, located in this region, has the state's highest elevation above sea level at 1,235 feet. Illinois has three major geographical divisions. Northern Illinois is dominated by Chicagoland.
Maybe some people will think human geography has no relation between physical geography. But I think human geography has a great effect on physical geography, and physical geography has a great effect on human geography too.
