Getting Into College Essay

Discovering and choosing a college that best suits my needs was a rigorous yet thrilling task. The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising clearly came forth as the best choice for me to further my education in design. Being unable to visit the college campus, as I live in New York, I've done lots and lots of research about FIDM, and I realize the institute offers what I hope to gain from my college experience.

Preparing for College after graduating from high school is considered to be as one of the most thought by students. Even so, most students nowadays are uncertain whether attending college will be a good advantage for them. Some believe that it is a waste of time and money, but most people consider it as a reason to thrive in life. Unlike High school, College is certainly different because it determines your future and should be taken more earnestly by the students. College education is a worth of cost because it basically provides students with great benefits, which can be a good help in shaping their future goals.

To me college is like the next step of life to adulthood; it is where you get a taste of the authentic world and learn how to adjust and manage on your own. In addition, it can be a place of magnification and polished skills within a community that strives for a prosperous life with an effulgent vocation. Thus, attending college was compulsory for me in order to reach future goals, and North Carolina A&T State University (NCAT) transpired to be just right for me. The distance was within range and they have an outstanding mechanical engineering program that I could solemnly benefit from. Overall, attending this university has opened many doors of opportunities that arrange with my personal and professional goals through their culture and community. Furthermore, I endeavor to put myself first and review my precedent accomplishments to strive for better while exposing myself to incipient challenges and obstacles.

Since I started community college I’ve heard several dozen cases of people changing their major, changing their transfer college, or just changing their mind. I’m not likely to do any of that, I choose to use my time in high school deciding what I wanted to do and so far I am sticking to it without a doubt in my mind. I chose to go to community college, earn my Associate's in Business Administration, and transfer to James Madison University in the fall of 2018, graduate in 2020 with my Bachelor’s. I intend to get my Master’s either right after my Bachelor’s or within a few years of my career. I hope to have a job leaving JMU, my first accounting job of my career. I decided to major in accounting for a plethora of reasons, but not what most people expect.

After graduating high school, no one prepares you for college. Most kids when they are finished with high school don’t even fantasize about going back to school. I have always wanted to go to college ever since I was a young kid. I also had dreams of myself going to college, but in my dreams, everything was picture perfect. In reality, college has been very challenging for me. No one tells you about the adjustments and complications that you would have to face to become a successful college student.

As a young child, I had the opportunity to move from Brasil to America. Although it was a challenge, I overcame many obstacles that allowed me to grow as a person. The language barrier was difficult, but with dedication, I was the first to graduate out of my English as a Second Language class. I grew a strong bond with other Hispanics throughout that time, which further helped form a passion to help Hispanic countries through Hugs 2 Honduras, a club that focuses on fundraising to help communities in Honduras. Along with Hugs 2 Honduras, I participated in the fundraising process for Westfield’s first Dance Marathon. After raising some money for the event, I took a leading position with some other senior girls in a program called Kind Campaign. This program was created to bring awareness to girl-on-girl bullying, and the senior girls led the freshman

Moving my whole life to the United States was a special challenge to me. I had to be familiar with life style, environment, education system, culture, and tradition which are different from my country Iraq. Before I moved to the United States, I spent three years in a university in Iraq; however, these years in the university did not help me to get to the college level in the United States. It was like I needed to start from zero. I did not give up because I have a goal to be a doctor. Therefore, I took ESOL classes, passed Texas Admission Test, and now I am in my Junior year.

Trying to decide what to do for the rest of my life is a hassle. I have to consider what I do well, what I enjoy, and how much income I would like to make. No one wants to wake up every morning hating their lives because they have to work long hours doing something they do not enjoy just to earn an income. The more a person loves their job, the better they will be at it and the more they will be willing to go to work. After spending many years being indecisive about my future, I have finally committed to pursue a career in speech pathology at Nicholls State University.

"We are all here for some special reason. Stop being a prisoner of your past. Become the architect of your future" (Robin Sharma). I have come across this quote several times and each time, it has been inspirational. Moving to the United States from Iraq at the age of eight is one of the challenges for which I am most grateful. Growing up as a child in a country with poor living standards, poor education, and poor medical care made living conditions difficult for my family and I on a day-to-day basis. Coming here and being able to see how wide-ranged and expansive the pharmaceutical field was tremendously encouraging.

Attend in a college is a step of being an adult, responsible and independent. Therefore, success through the college is to gain experiences, qualities which permit to success in your future work, your life. College is the place which afford you those qualities in your thinking and learning abilities.

If someone asked me where I am going to be in ten years, this would be my answer. I will have a great, high-paying job, and beautiful wife and family, and a nice sports car parked in front of my lovely house. When I look into the future, I see myself being successful and happy. Even though I always pictured myself this way, I never worried too much about how I would get there. I feel the Suffolk University can lay the groundwork for making these dreams into reality.

Many things have happened in my life, and plenty have been successful moments. The successful moment I had was being a freshman and making it on the list to do a dance solo. This moment was very important and made me feel victorious.

My parents migrated from the Dominican Republic in order to achieve the ‘American Dream’, the national ethos, the ideal that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative. However, my mother comes home from work exhausted, with her hands peeling from harsh chemicals and soaps, propagandizing the importance of a college degree to me while she slips off the shoes that she put on at four in the morning. My mother tried to complete an associate degree after my birth, but the series of tribulations associated with raising two children, maintaining a part-time job, and trying to get a college degree was too much to bear and she did not complete her education.

Many colleges in the United States (U.S.) take a holistic approach in determining who to accept that will maintain or raise their status as an educational institution. Colleges certainly look at one’s intellectual ability through grades, standardized tests and essays, but one’s involvement within a community, social and economic background, and other social skills are also considered. The socialization throughout one’s life is an important determinant in getting accepted to a college. Applying to a college in the United States from Japan is a unique and uncommon option, but compared to other Japanese students, I had many social factors that intentionally and unintentionally contributed to my college acceptances. At the same time, some aspects—the distinct education and community of Japan—hindered my preparation for American colleges. Although I had limited resources compared to domestic students, numerous social factors, such as the educational experience of my family and myself, the social and cultural capitals exclusive to me, and the social forces of tracking and labeling of a wider community affected my chances of getting into college.

My entire life I have worked hard and committed to being the best that I can be. I have I have many actions that fit into excelling, stretching, and serving. To begin with, my high school GPA was a 3.7, which qualified me to graduate with honors. I received honors through hard work and dedication. Schoolwork always came before leisure. I would not accept any grade lower than an A. Because of me excelling in school, I was able to get accepted into many colleges early. I was the first of my friends to apply and get accepted into college, and this is where my stretching and serving comes in. I helped many of my friends with the college application process.
