Offertorium was completed in March 1980 for Gidon Kremer, who also premiered it in 1981. Kremer also gave it its American premier in 1985. This piece is less of a violin concerto and more of a "large symphonic piece with violin". This is the second piece in the trilogy of concertos titled Proprium (an instrumental mass Gubaidulina formed). The piece is based on the royal theme from Bach's Musical Offering, but instead of manipulating it melodically, Gubaidulina says "…it determines the form. We hear it at the beginning of Part I, but then it gradually disappears, down to one sound by the end of Part I. Part II proceeds without the theme. Part III gradually restores the theme, until it reappears in full—but in reverse order (crab canon). The
The piece from my final recital programme that I chose to evaluate in this essay is ‘Verdi Prati’ from Handel’s opera Alcina. Alcina was inspired by a story from an epic poem called “Orlando Furioso”, however, Handel's libretto is a very free adaption. This particular aria is of great importance in the opera as we see the character Ruggerio predicting what is to come for Alcina and her magical island.
Composers since the early classical era have used sonata form to express through music ideas which are at once complex and unified. This form contains a variety of themes and permutations of these themes, but is brought together into a comprehensible whole when these excerpts reappear. Beethoven, in the first movement of his Piano Sonata Opus 2 Number 3 utilizes this form to its full potential, modifying the typical structure in his characteristic way.
On 02/11/2017 I was Dispatched to Smith Springs Elementary School for an investigation. A student Cire Kistner, was reported as being visibly distraught upon her arrival at school. She was taken to Lance Forman's office the schools principal and was questioned. The student reportedly told Forman that she and her sisters walked into the bathroom and witnessed their father, Eric Kistner, with a needle in his mouth and blood on his forehead. He was passed out on the floor. There was a spoon with "black watery play dough" on the counter. Principal Forman contacted DCS and informed them of the situation as well as MNPD. Metro P.D held the students at school, while also performing a welfare check on their father at the Kistner residence and calling
Antonio Vivaldi is a famous Italian baroque composer, known by most Suzuki violin students who study his concertos or by audiences everywhere who have heard and love his composition of the Four Seasons. Having grown up as students of the Suzuki Violin Method, we recognize this composer and have experience performing his pieces. In addition to his many concertos written for solo violin, Vivaldi composed many concertos intended to be performed by two solo violins, accompanied by a small orchestra. Because we are both violinists, we chose to analyze the second movement of Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Violins in A minor, RV 522, included in his L’Estro Armonico works.

The Baroque musical period occurred throughout Europe from 1600 to 1750. The compositions during this period had certain characteristics. Some of these characteristics included unity of mood, continuity of rhythm and melody, and most compositions, in the middle to late Baroque period, included polyphonic textures (Kamien, 2011). Many musicians, such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Arcangelo Corelli, thrived during this period. They composed hundreds to thousands of compositions in various different musical forms and each piece holds the characteristics of the Baroque period uniquely. This paper will review the
The first and opening piece was a Roman Carnival Overture, Op. 9, by Hector Berlioz. In major tonality, classical piece started with vivace statement, and then slow introduction progressed later in allegro. It featured an independent solo that was performed with an English horn and gradually changed dynamics throughout the classical movement.
Originally written for viola, the bassoon transcription maintains the unique characteristics of the original Weber piece. The piece composed in two separate movements, Andante and Hungarian Rondo. The Andante section is a theme and short set of variations. The theme is in the mood and tempo of a siciliana, a slow dance with origins in Italy in the early Baroque period. There are three variations on this theme in this beginning movement. After the last variation where the bassoon completes its background quick moving notes as the orchestra plays the theme, a short bridge section leads directly to the second movement. The challenge of this first movement is accomplishing the stylistic lilt in the first variation. Although less technically challenging than the other compositions, accomplishing the correct feeling is
This proposal is for the composition of a piece for organ solo to be premiered at the Ronald G. Pogorzelski-Lester D. Yankee Memorial Organ. The proposed title of the piece is “Flowing Streams”. The title is a word game with the name of the composer and organ master J. S. Bach (which translation means creek). The mainstream of the proposed piece is to give a contemporary voice to the immortal work of the baroque composer through quotation of elements of his own music. Bach’s original elements will not be used in their own traditional baroque-tonal approach, but they will be a vehicle to tell a story under a contemporary polystylistic approach. These elements will be combined, compared, and opposed sometimes in a very converging way, another
There is an event that I just can describe as one of the best ones of my life: the concert of one of my favorite band, Kodaline. For my 15th anniversary, my best friend invited me to go to the show with her. Since it was in Quebec, we have decided to spend the whole weekend there.
It all started on December 29th in the year 1991. An attractive women at the age of thirty-six was found nude, stabbed and killed in Phoenix, Arizona bar in the men’s restroom, where she worked at. The killer had left some evidence behind in the restroom. The blood there was the woman’s, but there was saliva that didn’t match her’s. Investigators relied on the bite marks near her neck and other places. The victim told a friend that someone by the name Ray Krone was suppose to help her stay close the bar. Investigator’s asked Ray to bite down on the styrofoam to make an indent to see if the bite marks had matched his, which they did. Two days afterwards, Krone had been arrested for murder, sexual assault, and kidnapping.
The attitude used throughout the book is informing, Kolbert tries to make us see the big impact we are having on our planet. Since the origin of life on earth three billion years ago, our planet has experienced five mass extinction events. The last of these events occurred around sixty-six million years ago when a six mile wide asteroid collided with earth, wiping out the dinosaurs. The Cretaceous extinction event dramatically changed the composition of biodiversity on the planet. Marine ecosystems essentially collapsed, and about seventy-five percent of
During the Baroque period, there were two concepts of music: concerto and concerto grosso. A concerto was a piece written with a soloist and an orchestra, and a concerto grosso is a piece written for multiple soloist (Bonds). A concerto grosso was meant to pit a small group of soloists and the small orchestra against each other through sound. The soloists each have contrasting sounds that work together to have a different sound from the entire orchestra; for example, in Brandenburg Concerto no. 2, Bach uses to loudness of the trumpet and the highness of the oboe to contrast with the stringed instruments in the orchestra. The form of a concerto grosso is the ritornello principle (Bonds). This is the changing of sections of music between the
What is Krokodil? Krokodil is a liquid substance that contains many indigestible ingredients. These ingredients are; lighter fluid, gasoline, opiates, cleaning solutions such as bleach, hydrochloric acid, iodine, red phosphorous, and many other lethal ingredients. Krokodil is made different every time, mostly just ingredients that a person can find for little to no money. One of these ingredients is paint thinner. To make Krokodil, a person simply puts these ingredients in a bowl, transfers it to a spoon, and adds heat to the bottom. Next, they find a syringe, and suck the liquid into it so it can be injected into the body.
