I have chosen Option 1 for my Language Development Project. There were many reasons as to why I decided to choose Option 1. The main reason is that, learning new words is a personal interest of mine. I never feel like I know too many words. That’s why I find it satisfying to learn new words and try to incorporate those words in my writing. During the early years of my high school, I always felt like my vocabulary wasn’t up to snuff. But, oddly enough, I began to improve my vocabulary through watching movies, TV shows, and playing games. I looked up a new word that I came across, and incorporated it into my writing. I had also learned to understand the meaning of an unknown word through the context that word was written in. Now that I’m in college,

What most surprised me this week was just how similar, by the 1980s, the Progressive-Conservatives and the Liberals when it came to government policy. It is also an interesting commentary on the historical narrative when comparing how Pierre Trudeau and Brian Mulroney in contemporary historiography.
My mother once said, “Spend your money wisely.” Ever since then I have. Now I want to spend my money on something special, like seeing my sister in Hawaii. In order to have these special things I have to earn money.
A genogram is a tool that is used in counseling to plot a client’s family of origin. Not only plotting like one would a family tree but also experiences that occurred within the family. The first quiz I took was the “Emotional Intelligence Quiz.” My score was a seventeen out of twenty. The interpretation states, “You seem naturally well-attuned to others' emotions--a vital skill for forming compassionate connections. You scored well above average but still have room for growth; research suggests that people can improve their emotion recognition skills with practice.” The easiest part of this quiz was identifying the emotions that were presented. The most difficult part for me was understanding why my answer was incorrect because when my answer was incorrect, my choice was very similar to the correct answer. For example, at one point I picked shame instead of embarrassment, and the two look very similar. The main thing I learned from this quiz was
House Bill 2, also referred to as the bathroom bill or HB2, was passed into law as the Public Facilities Privacy and Securities Act. There is so much more to this recently passed law than allowing transgendered people to access there bathroom of choice. HB2 sets a certain criteria for who may, or may not be protected against discrimination. A person is only protected from discrimination of the information on their birth certificate and their religion. Sexual preference however, is not protected by state law, and it has never been. This law also removes the standard minimum wage set by a city or county that is imposed on private employers. Schools that depend on federal education funding could be affected by HB2. NC state law requires students to use bathrooms according to their gender. The federal government has a law that does not allow discrimination in any school program, and it also covers sexual preferences under it’s sexual discrimination clause. This law is a disgrace to what the fore fathers of this country clearly stated in the Declaration of Independence.
All students need direct instruction of vocabulary, but it is especially imperative for ELLs. They need much more exposure to new vocabulary than their native-English-speaking classmates. ELLs need to learn cognates, prefixes, suffixes, and root words to enhance their ability to make sense of new lexicon. Beginning ELLs and more advanced ELL students should actively engage in holistic activities to practice new vocabulary because learning words out of context is difficult for these students. If they memorize the meanings of the words on a list, they will not be able to use the words in their own writing or verbal production until they really understand the meanings. When vocabulary instruction includes explicit, implicit, and strategy instruction, students are repeatedly exposed to the target vocabulary in a variety of contexts which increases their individual vocabulary development and the other resources that help in doing so is the Semantic Mapping primary focus on visual relationships, which is helpful to students from all backgrounds.
Transformative learning is basically changing the way one thinks, feels, acts, and sees life now, as opposed to the past. It can have a small or huge impact on the way they see different aspects of their life. The four stages of the transformative learning process are: Recognizing a specific problem – this is when one would decide if there is a need for change. They would recognize that there is a problem and specifically what it is. Confronting the problem intensely – They would then avoid apprehension and immediately confront the problem, while remembering to consider all possible solutions.

To begin with, in college writing, understanding the impact that words can make is crucial, knowing the definition of the words one is using will not only make one's writing more efficient but ideas are clearer to the writer as well as the audience, that’s why a wide vocabulary is important. Using wrong words can make or break a paper, even if one might think they are the same. For example, having been a personal translator many times, it's important to be able to know and understand the meaning of the words to ensure that nothing gets lost in translation, even the absence or change of a word can give way to an entire different meaning. A large vocabulary gives people a wider choice every time a specific word is needed. Vocabulary is freedom and although one
I will do this by reading more high level reading books, and if I find a perplexing word that I don’t understand, then I would apply context clues to figure out the word, or jot it down in my notebook on the back, defining it later using an online dictionary. Also I will look up the vocabulary work of the day, and learn the word. Later I could use these words to communicate with my friends, even though my friends probably have no idea what I am saying. To make sure I’m making progress, I will quiz myself every week with the new words I learned, using them in a complete sentence. I can measure how much progress I’ve made month by month, jotting down how many words I’ve learned during a month. My average is about 25-35 words per month. This goal will help me in the future, because when I am applying for a job, or having a interview with a professional I could use these advanced vocabulary instead of everyday
