When a human being enters this world, God already has a plan or purpose for them. Doctors and firemen save lives, presidents lead a nation and policemen protect communities. Whatever role a person has, it has been written as their purpose in life. It was simply a matter of time for me to realize teaching was my purpose.
Ever since I was a little girl, the idea of teaching always delighted me. Instead of being a regular girl playing dolls, I was playing school with my little cousins and the kids from the neighborhood. Through my teenage years, while kids my age were “hanging out” in malls, I was captivating the toddlers from the street, through story time or playing school. It always amazed me how different each of them learned and vice versa. Not only that, but everything each of them taught me. I knew teaching was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Nevertheless, God was going to challenge me along the way; the road was going to be a really bumpy one.
College was the most important time in my life. As a first generation college student, the weight was in shoulders. I had to prove to my whole family that college was not primitive; being of color did not have to equal to ignorance. When I started college, I did not go take a career towards education. I decided to study a career that did not require a lot of work and in a sense, create an easy way out of college because all that matter was to have a degree in my hands. However, making those decisions came with
Every person on this earth has a great purpose they are going to fulfill throughout their life. I believe my purpose here is to serve God for what he is calling me for. It took a while to know that he was calling to me to become a nurse, and every day that goes by
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve known what I wanted to do. I am one of those people who was blessed enough to realize my passion at an early age. As far back as I can remember, I’ve wanted to become a teacher. I can remember as a child sitting in my room, surrounded by my stuffed animals (or students, as I saw them) and forcing my younger brother to sit still and quietly do the work I assigned him. I even had two baskets which I kept on my little wooden desk; one for my “students” to turn in work, and the other for more work which needed to be graded. I spent many afternoons
Education is the main goal of college. I had always considered myself a person dedicated to the pursuit of more knowledge and a better education. My mother, being a teacher, had instilled these values in me. When I was in elementary, I tested into a gifted center and from there I tested into selective enrollment college prep. The obvious next step seemed to be college. Looking the scholarship given to me, it just didn’t seem to add up. I had scored a 32 on the ACT but my scholarship was barely covering half of my expenses. But I knew if a just gave up, the meant giving up on everything that I believe in. By pursing college I was able to be challenged, pursue subjects which interested me and discover new pathways that I was interested such as African American studies. Without taking that chance, I may have never received that knowledge.
Lastly, college is important to me because it helps me teach my children and others that if you want it bad enough you will stick with it and make it happen. It teaches me that I can not help others if I have not been trained and taught to do so. I want my kids and others around me to see me going back to school after 13 years and succeed in the career of my dreams. I want my family to be proud of me and I hope one day my children will see that you can’t make it in the world without a education. So I want to help others by encouraging them to keep going and to strive to do their best and they will make it and be able to support their family like I am trying to do. As Sylvia Porter once said, “Invest in yourself and your education. There’s nothing better.” I have made that quote my motto until I finish schooling.
College is a chance to be free and is a bridge between the real world and school. I’m an adult and expected to behave as such; I make my own choices where I have to decide what is important to me. I have an opportunity to learn how the world works, to explore the limitless possibilities and a chance to admire how vast knowledge can be. College will change my life in the way that I can develop life skills outside academics, to be fully
As a young girl, the idea of college was a distant dream that I knew was important. I was told every day for the past 12 years of my life that college is the threshold to a better life because with a college degree you can accomplish so much more. Now, as a high school graduate, College and everything that comes with it is my reality. From applying to accepting an offer to orientation and financial obligations is all too real. I am just starting to realize how difficult college is.
All my life I’ve been trying to find my purpose. I always knew that my purpose in life was to help people, but I didn’t know how I really wanted to accomplish this. Upon graduating high school I was confused
Human beings have been given a purpose by God, and it is our job to live out our purpose. God gave Jesus a list of things to accomplish on earth.
God has a unique purpose for each and every one of us. Sometimes life gets so busy that we forget what our purpose is in life, but God has a way of guiding
I was set free from any expectations that were held to us in high school. There were no more worries of being home, and in bed by a certain time. It’s a lot of responsibility compared to being at home and having family to help out with everything. College is similar to Douglass’s life. You have to be willing to go out and challenge yourself to conquer a difficult class that your taking. Having the will to push through and succeed in learning is very important. A liberating moment was realizing what the world had to offer. There is so much more to explore in life than small town
Being brought up the way I am, going to college was never a question for me. It was always apart of the plan and just considered another grade after the twelfth grade. I have always been self-motivated and a preparer for what’s to come. Entering high school was when a lot of things changed for me. Freshman year was the year I was faced with one of, what seemed at the time, to be one of the roughest obstacles I had ever come across.
I can relate to the textbook mentioning about people asking themselves "Why are we here?" And "What should we be doing with our lives? (Hiles,Smith 2015 para .9) For many years I did not know what my purpose in life was or why I was brought into this world. The feeling of not having an answer to those questions gave me a sense of being lost. But from the moment I accepted Christ in my life all those feeling of not having a purpose changed. Now I know that my purpose is to fulfil His purpose for my life, by allowing Him to guide me in the right direction. A few months ago God placed in my heart the desire to become an Elementary School Teacher, He has managed to open doors that otherwise would of have been impossible. Now I'm here preparing
Many people have chosen to attend college for different reasons. College is very expensive, stressful and requires a lot of studying. Meanwhile, college could be fun and I could meet new people from across the world. Behind all of this, I have chosen to attend college and spend my next four years of my life in college so I could start off fresh, get a higher level of education and gain independence.
Our purpose in life is to serve God. Jesus gave us the Great Commission at the end of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Matthew 28: 16-20 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
My motivation for being a teacher comes from somewhere deep within my heart and soul. I love children. I love the look that comes across their faces when they finally grasp a concept after they have been trying to truly understand it. I had a lot of teachers that made an impact on me and I want to have the same impact on as many children as possible. My teachers installed a love of learning in me. There is no better profession than teaching for those who want to learn. One is learning just as much from their students, if not more, than what they teach. Teaching is rewarding and involves making the world a better place. That is my calling. To change the world, one person at a time, by showing love to each and every person I meet. Weather it be one of my students or one of their parents, I want to be Christ’s light just like my teachers were for me. I want to be the support system that shows each and every one of my students that they can do anything they put their mind to. Not only can they shoot for the stars, but they can shoot far beyond. After all, I was once just a kid from a small farm town that no one knows about. Now I’ve been on 4 mission trips, I travel all around, and I moved half way across the country to chase my dreams. I am here because I was impacted by my high school history teacher/ musical director, Mr. Wittig. He pushed me to chase my dreams and to follow my heart and not to let anything get in my way. I want to share what I have with every child I can,
