Gone is the first book in the Gone Series by Michael Grant. In the first book, everyone over fifteen disappears, and the city they live in, Perdido Beach, is enclosed by a barrier. Kids begin to develop powers, and some are beginning to go crazy. It’s known as Fallout Alley Youth Zone, or the FAYZ. Sam helps lead the scared kids. Students from the prestigious Coates Academy, where your rich parents sent you when you were ‘difficult,’ arrive. Diana is able to gauge powers; Caine and Sam are the only level fours, the highest she’s seen. Caine, a student at Coates, tries to take over, and Sam tries to stop him. A war breaks out between Sam’s side and Caine’s side and normals and freaks. Sam’s group eventually wins, but this war is far from over. To make matters worse, they’re still trapped in this barrier. But don’t worry, it’s only a FAYZ.
Sam starts out as a typical surfer guy, who blends in with the rest of the crowd. He’s known as ‘School Bus Sam’ from the time when he saved everyone on a bus when the bus driver had a heart attack by taking over the wheel, then calling 911. Since then, he’s blended back in with the

He and the rest of Coates Academy arrive in cars, an entrance that took a lot of practice. He makes a speech trying to convince them to work together and establish a form of leadership and government. It works. Once he gains everyone’s trust, he goes into dictator mode. He uses his power of telekinesis to get people to do his bidding. People still follow his rules out of fear, after he slammed a huge cross into someone’s shoulder, forcing him into their makeshift hospital for months. He has rules and regulations that turn people against him. His ‘police’ enforce the law in any way they can. That includes smashing a girl’s head with a metal baseball bat for using her powers, which is a strict no-no in Caine’s realm. A war breaks out between him and
Within the book You Lost Me by David Kinnaman, the author discusses why young Christians are leaving the church and rethinking faith. He gives us an overview of the trends within the mosaic generation. Through this overview, we as student ministers can better understand the generation in which we are ministering to. With this understanding, we can reach these students and bring them back to their home, that is the Church. In this report, I will discuss the book by chapter and finish with my reflection.

The book Nineteen Minutes ended with an shocking conclusion. In the scene Peter Houghton had just finished shooting his way through the school, when he encountered his old best friend Josie Cormier and his long-time bully Matt Royston in the locker room of the high school gym. When Peter held up his gun to shoot Matt, Josie screamed which startled Peter, and made him drop his backpack which caused another gun to fall out of his bag. The gun skittered across the floor and Josie grabbed the gun and pointed it at Peter while Matt cowered behind her. In this moment Josie had the decision to either shoot Peter or let him kill Matt and possibly her. Shocking the two boys and herself Josie turns around and shoots Matt in th stomach instead. As
- Sam is a grown man who suffers from autism. He has a daughter by the name of Lucy.
In Okay For Now, written by Gary D. Schmidt, he wrote about certain people who talk about their rough times, and they say okay for now because things could always get worse. In the book, the characters best for the topic is Doug, Lil, and Lucas. They all struggle with something, but they keep it to themselves for the most part. Okay For Now means the characters feel good and Doug, Lil, and Lucas all feel okay at the moment.
My recommendation is to read Gone by Michael Grant. It was really fun to read. At first it was boring because I didn’t have time and I wasn’t interested, but as soon as I did, I loved it. Be sure to read the entire
I haven’t wondered what it would be like to be a sixteen-year-old kid and kill people for a living. This book explains it perfectly though. In the beginning of my book Ben (I will refer to him as Ben because we don’t know his real name yet and it is his fake name later in the book) goes into a different friend’s dad because he was told to. Later in the book Ben is given the task to kill the mayor of New York. Connecting The James Bond theme to Ben, Hit me with your best shot to Sam, and Domo arigato Mr. Roboto to Ben.
“Anyone who kills a man kills a reasonable creature, God’s image; but he who destroys a good book kills reason itself” (Henley 1). The Book Thief is written in third person omniscient, letting the reader get an insight view on the events of World War II from a new perspective. The act of book burnings, especially those done in World War II, have been done to destroy undesirable ideas, and to show what a regime stands for (Henley 1). This is widely shown in The Book Thief, as the novel shows Liesel Meminger, a young girl who becomes fascinated with books and literature and begins stealing banned books from burnings and libraries. Throughout the novel she starts to question as to why these burnings need to happen in the first place, and why the Nazi control is so extreme. Zusak’s realistic portrayal of the book burnings helps the reader understand the Nazi control during World War II.

In I Am Sam, Samuel Dawson is fun-loving, extroverted, and detail-minded. He favors routine and shows consistency in his love for others. When he’s not dressed in his Starbucks uniform, he is generally found wearing a neutral- colored polo and jacket. Sam is presented as a persistent and determined father who cares for anyone present in his life. His actions of love are displayed in big events such as his fight for custody for his daughter as well as smaller scaled tasks like his delicacy in organizing the sugar packets at his workplace.
1.Based on the title of the novel The Book Thief I expected the book to be about a person who became involved in stealing books. I imagined it to be about some kind of challenging time where it was not good to have books causing someone to need to steal the books.
