The overarching goal I have for pursuing a degree in Industrial/Organizational psychology is to gain experience from specific areas of research in the I/O psychology field. I have had the opportunity to take part in the research of this field throughout my undergraduate degree but have not been able to explore it as in depth as I could through a graduate degree. Completing a Master 's of Applied Science in I/O psychology at the University of Waterloo will allow me to reach this goal as I know that research is an integral part of the program. As such, my current interest in career choices are focused on the teaching and research aspects of being a professor. My recent experience as an Honours Thesis student has demonstrated my passion for research and teaching as I have had the opportunity to conduct my own research and present it in order to teach my classmates about my thesis topic. My previous experience in research has demonstrated that I have the ambition to pursue graduate studies in order to reach my career aspiration. I know that a Master 's of Applied Science in I/O psychology at the University of Waterloo will guide and challenge me to achieve my long-term goal. Throughout my Master 's degree my objective is to work with people and conduct impactful research. I enjoy collaborating and learning from others which will allow for personal development and well-rounded learning. I also aspire to work with people who share the same passion as I do in I/O psychology.
Being academically more rigorous than my undergraduate, this degree refined my time management and critical analytical skills further, as the volume and quality of work were much higher. Further still, this degree gave me a historical account of psychology, introducing key movements that gave rise to the psychosocial model. The collaborative nature of assignments encouraged throughout my MSc, inspired creativity in my own work and proved to be extremely beneficial when designing multiple layered interventions. This made me aware of the benefits of working in a multidisciplinary team who can share a range of skills when obtaining a shared

“Few fields of study offer more career opportunities than does psychology” (Sternburg 3). There are a wide selection of specialties a person could go into with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. In graduate school, which is a must to attend, there is the option to explore the different specialities or to go into the desired specialty without any research of the others. There are also many options within a specific specialty. There is the option to be a teacher, to work for various organizations, be a speaker, to have your own practice, and many others. In the psychology field these options can all be combined. In fact it is expected of psychologists to do more activities involving their specialty than solely sit in an office and listen to patients. There are two specialities that I am interested in however, over the years, these specialties have become very similar. Clinical and counseling psychology have evolved to become one in the same. Someone who specializes in clinical psychology are more
My heart remains set on becoming a psychologist and I plan to accomplish that dream in the years to come. For now, I am taking an AP psychology class while I finish my senior year; I decided to get a taste for what the rest of my life will be like. Thankfully, this class has only cleared my vision for becoming a psychologist. I’ve learned that the term “psychology” itself is rather broad. There are many fields and subfields in psychology, not to mention there are psychiatrists and psychoanalysts as well. I’m not sure what field exactly I want to partake in, but I’m hoping that I will be able to make a choice when I attend CU Boulder in the
When I declared a psychology major during the second year of my undergraduate career, my objective was to attend medical school and eventually become a psychiatrist. I enjoyed the psychology classes in which I was enrolled and found them to compliment the premed curriculum I also wanted to study. I reasoned that a major in psychology would provide insight that could later be useful in my planned studies of psychiatry. Although I decided against going to medical school, psychology remained the primary area of focus of my studies with the ultimate career goal of becoming a clinical psychologist. While my long term professional plans include achieving a PhD and becoming a clinical psychologist. Pursuing a masters degree in

I've put time into researching all aspects of the job role in psychology and have a positive feeling I am well suited for this role. I'm currently in the process of completing the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care. On this course I have studied a range of units including Psychology which I found particularly interesting as we are looking into behaviourist theories including Pavlov and his Classical conditioning theory and how a person can be conditioned to behave in a particular way from a Stimulus. Another unit we are studying is Sociology which is interesting as it shows why people behave the way they do due to social impacts such as culture or social status.

My purpose for seeking to pursue a doctorate degree is to enhance my knowledge of theories, research methods and assessment as it relates to psychology. More specifically, I would like to fine tune my skill set of executing varying concepts and techniques derived from theoretical discourses applicable to my work as a Psychologist and in so doing, obtain credibility within the field and among colleagues. I also believe, like Abraham Maslow in his theory of Human motivation, in becoming a lifelong learner and achieving intellectual self-actualization. I felt like my esteem needs were met through completion of a Master’s degree and am now compelled to aspire towards higher study; thus doctoral pursuit. Through my journey in completing a Master’s degree in Counseling psychology, I acquired internship experience and continue to obtain a wealth of firsthand experience within the human services field from years of working with students with behavioral, emotional, and social problems.
Being an Industrial/Organizational psychologist interests me because I strive in an environment with high demand. I am also very goal and team oriented, which is demonstrated by being a student-athlete at Lindenwood University and also being involved with multiple organizations and extracurricular activities. Those two characteristics are also critical aspects of Industrial/Organizational psychology. While I strive in an environment with high demands, I often have a problem saying no to taking on assignments because I seek various
