These statements will align with the aspects of membership criteria defined at the previous workshop during the spring semester. We hope this will be a way to refocus the chapter on what we value in members. We will also add a conversation workshop to Work Week and members will learn how to ask questions, steer conversations and represent Kappa in a way that allows members to recruit women who will understand Beta Xi Chapter’s vision and values. Recruitment Goals: • Chapter meetings: o “Guess that Active” game o Recruitment Workshop • Recruitment Focus Group with the Panhellenic Specialist • During Recruitment: o Daily reflective statements o Conversation workshop New Member Experience and Programming We, as a chapter, are excited to redesign our new member experience to ensure that each installment of new member programming works in conjunction with the chapter mission statement. Our first task is to restructure Bid Day, which has evolved into a party for active members to celebrate the end of Recruitment. As evident by the events of this past Bid Day, we are afraid that the focus of this night has lost its emphasis on sisterhood. Our goal for next year is to realign focus to the new member class and their pledgeship. To facilitate this, the New Member Chairman will reconstruct Bid Day to include a fun and safe activity to remove new members from the unsafe social pressures that accompany fraternity parties. As of December 2016, the Membership Committee has booked Camp
I am an active member of my school and community. At school I feel that i've gained the respect of my peers being elected as Student Council representative for the past four years. I have also been elected the treasurer of the choir, and secretary of the band. I am part of the Ross Middle School bucket drumming group and have been casted as part of the school theatre’s annual play. After school on Wednesdays I assist Ms. Rullman in helping students with homework and enhancing study methods. I am currently participating in science olympiad and have in the past. Men of Alpha Phi Alpha such as James Felton and Vaun Davis are key to why I want to pursue my aspirations of someday becoming a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity incorporated. Both James and Vaun’s unselfishness has allowed me to grow as a leader and also into a man. These role models have opened numerous doors for me that have resulted into various benefits and opportunities. I hope my encounters with great Alpha Men such as James Felton and Vaun Davis will allow me the opportunity of joining the highly respected brotherhood. Another abundant encounter that I have experienced with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, is the true meaning and display of brotherhood. For years I have watched the interactions and connections of men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated I have noticed that each member that I have encountered expresses and implements the true meaning of brotherhood. I profoundly believe in the bond of brotherhood and fraternity. In my belief, if granted the chance to uphold the unbreakable bond such as the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, the bond would enhance my credentials while assisting and challenging others. The brotherhood would push me to
Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated purpose is to be of service to all mankind dealing with critical issues in communities domestically and internationally. What I have grown to understand an envision a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to be, I accredit largely to the ladies of the Gamma Theta chapter. This has the result of attending many of the chapter’s events during my time at Hampton thus far. One of my favorite events was a screening of a documentary Girls Rising. I learned to appreciate every opportunity to learn and gain knowledge because in some parts of the world girls are restricted from receiving an education. A
A list of potential new members should be projected on a screen. The PNMs should be grouped into scores of zero, five and 10 as assigned by rotation groups between parties and listed alphabetically within their score category. The chapter membership criteria should be posted. Members sit by rotation group or alphabetically by initiation date. Give 10 to 15 minutes at the beginning of each membership selection session for chapter members to prepare Kognitives. This saves time later. Additionally, ensure members have access to reliable internet or their own cell connection in
The first value that the resolute men of Theta Chi Fraternity pride themselves on is by the value of True Friendship and Brotherhood. Brotherhood is “having somebody that will not let you fail” (UC Theta Chi Rush Fall 2016). It “is having someone to talk to, someone to go to. Having people around to motivate you and push you to be better” (UC Theta Chi Rush Fall 2016). Brotherhood is defined by “a group of guys, that come from different areas and different backgrounds. And we mold it all together into one cohesive group” (UC Theta Chi Rush Fall 2016). Friendship and Brotherhood are key values in Theta Chi fraternity because it allows there to be a special relationship between the members of the fraternity. When some men come to college they
Chanting and screaming of sorority houses at Library Lawn, as new members take off running from all different directions to their new homes. If you stopped and took it all in, you could see all thirteen houses standing out around a stage in different themes, waiting for the new pledges. After months of preparation of recommendation letters, resumes and shopping for the perfect outfit to wear to each house event during recruitment, Bid Day was finally here. Today was the day that over 700 girls would run to their new home for the next four years and make bonds and friendships that would last a lifetime.
Thank you for your support of Kappa Kappa Gamma. On behalf of Fraternity Council, I am writing to share an update regarding Zeta Eta Chapter at the University of California, Irvine.
The chapter members were significantly impacted by the Omicron Tau chapter by the useful information and resources provided to them. The Chapter Advisor team aided in the coordination of significant events that lead to the personal development of the members. As a chapter, Omicron Tau was consistently keeping members updated on the latest volunteering opportunities, scholarships and upcoming events. The implementation of this information into meetings and e-mails successfully reached out to students which allow them to improve themselves and become more involved in the honor society. The Advisor Team was present in meetings to further inform students if there was any issue or a student wanted to seek further information with a staff member. Keeping members informed on relevant information to their personal and career growth further developed the connection between Phi Theta Kappa and its
Visitors, Aspirants, inquirers and candidates are encouraged to attend; this is a wonderful experience to see the inner workings of the structure of the fraternity. Several of our candidates have volunteered to help with our upcoming elections.
A new member is a member in her first year of membership in Kappa Kappa Gamma. She will participate in the New Member Experience, a foundational program upon which new members build their knowledge and understanding of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Information is focused on Kappa Kappa Gamma’s Pillars of Education — our core educational values — which include sisterhood, leadership, intellectual development, well-being, community responsibility, human dignity, and heritage. The goals of the program are as follows.
You may have noticed the Fraternity’s new structure provides a lot of great support and requires us to work more
Honor former Presidents, House Board and Advisory Board members, and any other Fraternity Official Family or committee members who are in attendance.
Senior members also explore the benefits of alumna membership and their impact on the Fraternity at large. All senior members are expected to complete the Senior Member Experience, which begins at the start of each member’s senior year in college and extends until she becomes an alumna member. Programming for the Senior Member Experience is customizable to ensure the chapter is able to provide relevant and valuable educational opportunities that meet the interests and needs of the senior members. At the senior orientation meeting in the fall, all seniors receive the gift of The Girl’s Guide: Getting the hang of your whole complicated, unpredictable, impossibly amazing life by Melissa Kirsch. This book contains practical, real-life advice for post-college years and answers all the needs of the modern woman,
I am very fortunate to be employed with Columbia Public Schools in Columbia, Missouri. Our city is located in the middle of the state of Missouri about 2 hours away from Kansas City, Missouri and 1.5 hours away from St. Louis Missouri. Our high school services 1,400 students from grade 9 to 12. Our staff have an average of 8 years of experience, with more than half with an advanced degree. The teacher – student ratio is 1:18, total teachers are approximately 78. The demographic of students include 5% Hispanic, 30% Black, and 56% White. The other 8% include Indian, Asian and those whom are bi-racial and choose not to identify with only one group.
