Friends that we make from our high school years are the ones that we will have for a lifetime. And I am glad I made some friends during the course of my high school years. Those friendships, hopefully, would travel with me until I enter college, the world of adulthood, and the very last stage of my life—death. One of those friendships, one of my treasures, is between Ryan and me. He and I first met in a math class back in freshman year. It was the first day of school, and everything—classmates, teachers, and even the classrooms—were all new to me. Sitting down and looking around, I saw some familiar faces from middle school, but, overall, I was basically a duck in a flock of chickens. Whenever a teacher calls on him, his nervousness brings a layer of blush to his cheeks, giving his face a rosy tint without any make-up! Speaking of make-up, Ryan’s bangs, for some reasons, always stay up with stiffness, looking like it’s been flat-ironed for a long time. When asked what’s wrong with his hair, Ryan just smiled, showing his metal braces, and said that he uses his hand to swipe back his bangs every time he gets out of the shower. One time, when I suggested him to dye his dark hair blonde, Ryan glanced at me with squinted eyes and sarcastically said, “Yea, blonde hair would definitely look good with freckles.” From that point on, I never questioned his hair again. Ryan and I first officially engaged in a conversation also in the math class of freshman year. Mr. Fannon, our geometry teacher, put us into groups and assigned each group a theorem to prove. Ryan and I work in different groups. I was the so-called “writer” because everyone in the group told me that I had the nicest hand writing and, therefore, I should write. A little intimidated, I decided to write anyway for the sake of the assignment. As I was writing the title of the proof on a white piece of poster paper, an astonished tone of voice hit me from behind: “Oh my God, that’s the nicest handwriting I’ve ever seen.” I turned around with confusion, wondering who just made that comment.
