Classmates and Dr.
Good afternoon everyone, I have decided to go after question one this week regarding to the second great awakening. Just going over the course book readings and sparked my interest to do this section. Religion played a major role within the United States and where people were committing numerous sins. Some were going to become a Methodist, Christian, Catholic, Protestant and Lutheran. Picking a religion wasn't easy for some but easy for others. Take this for example; Methodist and Catholics have two different beliefs when you die and go to heaven. With the Catholic side of things, it believes in happiness will help you go to heaven. While Methodist chooses the salvation and glory which brings the deceased to heaven
Nathan Hatch compares the Second Great Awakening to the Jacksonian era. He states that the men trying to persuade other people to join their religion was like tyrants trying to get people to follow them. That just like the beginning stages of the revolution, this was a time of power struggle for religious leaders. Hatch writes ‘These movements
The Second Great Awakening laid the foundations of the development of present-day religious beliefs and establishments, moral views, and democratic ideals in the United States. Beginning back in late eighteenth century and lasting until the middle of the nineteenth century,1 this Protestant awakening sought to reach out the un-churched and bring people to a much more personal and vivid experience of Christianity. Starting on the Southern frontier and soon spreading to the Northeast, the Second Great Awakening has also been associated as a response against the growing liberalism in religion - skepticism, deism, and rational Christianity.2 Although the movement is well-known to be
The Second Great Awakening appeared in New England. The Second Great Awakening had a completely different outlook than the First Great Awakening. The first one had a passive tone that suggested that no matter how much they praised or lived a pure life, they would never be good enough to accept God hand and receive God’s grace. The Second Great Awakening was a 180 from the First Great Awakening. The second Awakening welcomed the idea that God gave sinners a chance to accept God grace when he offered his grace to the people (Butler, Wacker, Balmer, 2011). Unique ways were introduced during the Awakening. For example, it was common to for large crowds to come together for numerous day and praise and dispose their sinners. James McGready was the first Presbyterian pastor to introduce this type of healing. The Second Great Awakening lasted until 1820s where the Baptist and Methodist congregations gaining the most support. The Second Awakening looked at the more emotional side of religion and focused less on the logical side of
First off I just wanted to say thank you for your service because if it was not for you we would not be writing essays right now. I just have to say, I like the words of Abraham Lincoln’s quote who said, “My dream is of a place and a time where America will once again be seen as the last best hope on earth.” I love the word “Dream” and the part of the quote about the “America’s best and last hope on the earth.” The best last hope on earth makes me happy to read because I believe it is true. America’s gift to my generation is hope.

Blended learning refers to any time a student in a traditional, brick and mortar school accesses learning through an online delivery. Considered a disruptive innovation, blended learning transforms the traditional factory like school into a personalized learning experience for students. By 2019, more than fifty percent of high school courses will be delivered online (Christensen, 2011). Therefore, there is a need for schools to investigate the options that best fit their vision, mission and community. In a speech at the American Enterprise Institute, Arne Duncan who has been the U.S. Secretary of Education since 2009 described the “new normal” of education and explained that schools will be required to do more with less (Duncan, 2010). Ultimately blended learning is a way to decrease spending, address teacher shortages and differentiate instruction in the classroom.
Have you ever felt the pain knowing you and the people beside you might not be there tomorrow? Have you ever known the feeling of having your family oceans away? Although I have never felt anything close to that, I have empathy for those who have. I feel others should realize all of the Veteran’s pain, and their sacrifice, just for us! For our Freedom! Freedom of Education, of Speech, of Choice and many more. I say “ Thank you.” to the Veterans. Yet, it’s not just the Veterans that make sacrifices.
America's gift to our generation is that we have so many opportunities. We have the freedom and safety to pick what we want to do in life. We don't have to go to sleep worrying about if someone is going to come invade our house. We also get great education. Even tho people don't like going to school they should be thankful because a lot of kids don't have schools or can't afford to go to them. The stuff you learn at school will help you a lot with your future like if you want to work at a store than math will help you with the money or if you want to be a teacher than you can go to college and learn to be a teacher. Safety is something we should all be thankful for because a lot of countries have to worry about being safe. We don't have
Congratulations on graduating from Cathedral High School! You have been put in so much effort, determination, and hard work into school these past four years. You are graduating with an excellent GPA while at the same time participating in many activities, church, and working your job at Target. Your demonstration of priorities has been very impressive to me and you certainly have found a good balance!
I don’t even know where to start with this State of the Union Speech. I thought it was incredible. It was well written and wasn’t full of bogus. As a kid who is confused, and sometimes even scared of politics, I could understand it. One major thing that stood out to me was the talk about America’s strength. My fellow students at school have no faith in our country, and always go around saying, “Obama sucks!” I always knew that they were wrong, but sometimes watching the news, I worried. It seems nothing good is ever happening. Reading the President's speech, I now know some of the truth, and it has calmed my worries. Another thing that stood out to me was the climate change stuff, that is a big worry of mine. Yes, it has been proven true
In August of 2015 I came in to my American history class not knowing exactly what I was getting my self in to , I mean the last time I took American history was my 11th grade year in high school in 2009/2010. After meeting with my new Professor and my classmates , I knew I was up for a run in this class, but I was completely wrong I end up loving it. My team was great! we worked as if we knew each other for years , when in reality we just met and we know maybe after this class ends we might not run in to each other again. The experience is worth taking with us ,where ever we may go .My topics may not be word for word what was said but every one learns differently and they pick up different information while being told the same thing.
In 2016, department leaders will be challenged with our nation’s changing demographics, a dramatic change from the beginning of the twenty first century. The average college student was a recent high school graduate, white, middle class, male or female, satisfactory grades and understanding, and straight (the stereo typical all American). College enrollment was steady; students were graduating and entering college on a consistent level.
The Great Awakening refers to a dramatic rise in the popularity in evangelical religion in America. The First Great Awakening took place in the early to mid 18th century while English-speaking America was still made up of colonies that were owned by the British. The Second Great Awakening, which is more pertinent to this research, reached its peak early in the 19th century. During the Second Great Awakening there was a dramatic swell in evangelical church membership occurred in denominations like the Baptists and Methodists, whose ministers were the leaders of the movement. Religious discord could come from a variety of sources,
