In my artwork, I presented my name in the style of graffiti. I have included musical notations around the letters. This connects to me because I love singing and listening to music. I also added the musical notes because music represents a big part of my life. Next, I added the zig zag cloud around my name because it is similar to the Nickelodeon logo, and I added it because I used to love watching shows on Nickelodeon when I was younger. The colour choices are the way they are because since one of my favorite colours is light purple/blue, I made the zig zag cloud that colour. The colours in my name represent my favorite season which is autumn, since warm colours represent autumn/fall weather. Lastly, I chose a black brick wall to apply a
The history of the underground art movement known by many names, most commonly graffiti begins in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania during the mid to late 60's, and started with bombing. The writers who are credited with the first effort are CORNBREAD and COOL EARL. They wrote their names all over the city gaining attention from the community and the local press. Then the movement made way to New York City where the teenagers would write graffiti on the subways. It is unclear whether this concept made way to New York City on purpose or if it was an accident.
Graffiti has been around for more than half a decade and practiced worldwide. However there is debate between whether it is a form of art or vandalism. Graffiti artists’ debate that many do not understand the reason most graffiti artist take the risk of incarceration, fines, injuries, and in some cases death to paint a wall. A graffiti artist can have the simple desire to become recognized, or to create a piece that speaks to their audience as a form of self expression. Because graffiti is associated with gangs and acts of destruction to some many cannot see the history and importance graffiti can have on a worldwide scale. Due to the fact that graffiti is usually produced illegally, meaning it is
If you were to go open a dictionary and look up the definition of art, you would see that it has art as “The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination…” (“Art” 2017) and “Works produced by human creative skill and imagination.” (“Art” 2017). From these definitions, graffiti is art, yet in most cases, it’s considered vandalism because it is done without permission of the property. When graffiti is done in a designated place or with the permission of the property owner, then it can truly be considered art. But even if these circumstances are not met, if the graffiti goes beyond a simple tag, it is art.
We seem to come into contact with a form art every day. It is all around us and sometimes we don’t even notice. One of those art forms is street art, better known by the name graffiti. Graffiti can be recognized for having a bad connotation associated with it, for example some people view it as offensive, vulgar, a nuisance or a form of vandalism. For some people graffiti is a way of life, a culture per se. There are many ways that culture can be defined for example culture can contain the use of symbols, it can be learned and shared, it has values and purpose. Graffiti as a culture contains all of these things and in this paper I will be looking at some comparisons and contrasts of graffiti culture in America from when it started and its evolution to mainstream artistic culture.
In this painting a group of men appear to be lost at sea. The sky and waves indicate that they are in the middle of a storm; in addition, the wooden raft looks as though it has endured a lot of hardship during the course of their journey. The men are piled up on top of each other in a shape of a pyramid. Some of the men are clothed while others are either halfway clothed or not clothed at all. There are approximately five men dead on this raft and others trying to look for help. At the top of the pyramid two men are holding up shirts trying the gain the attention of something in the background. In doing this all their backs are facing the viewer of the painting except for an older man slouching over a dead crew member.
Art is known to flaunt its own beauty by being artistic and expressive in its own unique measure. Diana Mack’s “It isn’t pretty…But is it Art?” depicts the ambience surrounding art while questioning the discrepancies among what is considered to be a good piece of art or not. Mack proposes the controversial public incidents in which it occurred, that prevented these art works to receive the legitimate amount of consideration and acknowledgement it deserved to receive. Meanwhile, Steve Grody’s “Graffiti: The Anatomy of a Piece” informs us on how arrogance and stereotypical views towards art and graffiti can conceal the true elegance and significance it tends to withhold. In support, he introduces us to the three continuums amplifying his perspective
Actually, the purpose of the graffiti is that if they were drawing or writing in the public space, people can see.Besides, the graffiti is a special way for artist to express idea and feeling.
As far as her art pieces, they have a very particular detail that make them stand out. When she first started in her career, Graffiti played a major role in her inspiration as well, which caused her to be arrested at the age of 15 for possessing a can of paint. She even joined a graffiti group (Pollack, P. 78), even though she had gone through a rough patch with graffiti in the beginning of her career she still finds it to be an influence for her and she still remains a believer of it. Smith says in an interview “not sick of [her] connection to graffiti ... just sick of how the conversation on graffiti gets framed. People want to simplify it all and say it is just about ‘the streets.’ [Her] experience with graffiti is genuine, but [she] also
The first paper I have selected is my persuasive essay. I chose to argue that graffiti is art,
When I started this project I had a strong feeling that I knew what exactly I wanted, I had planned all the needed steps made all the necessary calls before submitting my proposal. The start of the project seemed like all was going perfectly well until I had certain issues which I had always challenged myself with.
In this image, I see three points in the houses, the pillar, the people, the bird, the lantern, and the books. I can see within the points that it makes a triangle. The tool that the artist used was gestalt and continuity. This image is built from points and connected to make images. The lines in this image goes from horizontal to vertical to curved. The horizontal lines are in the different buildings, the horse, the card, the cage, the bird, and the gate. You can see some horizontal lines in the people within their clothes and the faces. Some of the lines are also vertical in this picture which includes the card, the different builds as well, the mouse, the people, and the dad which he looks proper and straight. Not only does this image
Graffiti is a form of art involving writing or drawings scribbled, scratched, or sprayed illicitly on a wall in public places. Graffiti has also existed back in the Roman Empire and Ancient Greek. During the time of the Catacombs of Rome, graffiti was known as inscriptions, figure drawing that were found on the walls of ancient sepulchers or ruins. The earliest forms of graffiti dated back to 30,000 BCE in the form of prehistoric cave paintings and pictographs using tools such as animal bones and pigments. These illustrations were often placed in ceremonial and sacred locations inside of the caves. In today’s society graffiti is a form of art that expresses underlying social and political messages and a whole
Graffiti composing and street art are regularly mistaken for each other. Both are subversive craftsmanship developments where work is shown in broad daylight as opposed to an exhibition setting. While graffiti specialists put their work in broad daylight, as a rule they are not intrigued by people in general comprehension their work; they need to address other graffiti craftsmen. Road craftsmen need everybody to see and be locked in by their work. They are attempting to create an impression. Graffiti composing and road workmanship are firmly related contemporary craftsmanship developments; be that as it may, they vary regarding strategy, capacity and expectation. Graffiti is as old as human progress. Graffiti is the importance of drawings or
Born and raised in rural Africa, my upbringing has always been immersed in bright colours. However urban sub cultures and graffiti still lie underground. During my teen years we uprooted to England and I found myself in the centre of Bristol. Bristols pride in creativity and independent spirit resonated with me. At the time the Bedminster area especially, nurtured my artistic appreciation. The graffiti scene in Bristol is extremely dominant, particular Dame Emily Park and Stokes Croft. The city is a stimulating and creative melting pot of culture and art, mostly graffiti, constantly in a state
“Art is an evolutionary act. The shape of art and its role in society is constantly changing. At no point is art static. There are no rules” (Raymond Harmon). In 1966 a man named Cornbread was the first known person to ever create a piece of art called graffiti and tagging it. Later, people started tagging subways, and everyone wanted to have their own unique tag. So, they started to become creative and become different from each other. Now it has evolved over several years and become something beautiful and eye opening, something that means the world to people without saying a single word. This something is known as graffiti. An article written by Mark Halsey Alison Young, “brings to light the complex and creative aspects of graffiti
