Grandparents: Vince Lombardi's Early Years

Vince Lombardi was the son of Harry and Matilda Lombardi (Roensch). Vincent Thomas Lombardi was born on June 11, 1913 in Brooklyn, New York. Vince spent his childhood in the city of Brooklyn. His dad Harry Lombardi had Vince’s childhood based on hard work and discipline (Roensch). Vince Lombardi wanted to play football high school, but cathedral high did not have contact sports. So Vince had to transfer from Cathedral to St. Francis Prep. Who actually sponsored a football team. Vince played as a fullback on for the team and got a scholarship to Fordham University (Roensch).

This year we experienced, according to many, the greatest comeback in sports history. The New England Patriots came back from being down 28-3 to end up winning the Super Bowl against the Atlanta Falcons. The NFL has had many crazy games, but where did it all begin? The NFL, founded in 1920, has morphed greatly since the origin, and has immensely impacted the world of sports.

Jerry Rice was born on October 13th, 1962, in a town called Starkville Mississippi. Since an early age, Jerry Rice and his siblings assisted their father during the scorching summers. Michael Vick was born on June 26, 1980 in Newport News, Virginia. As a young kid he excelled in athletics, and it high school, he was recognized as one of the top high school quarterbacks. Vick attended Virginia Tech for two years, where he led the Hokies to an undefeated season. After his sophomore year, he went into the NFL draft, and was selected first overall by the Atlanta Falcons. As a young player, he was among one of the most versatile and most productive players in the NFL. Michael Vick led the Falcons to several playoff appearances and playoff wins. Even though he was extremely successful in Atlanta, he often returned to his hometown of Newport News.

Although Vince Lombardi may have given a famous motivational speech, his wasn’t the only important event that was happening that day. There were many other events that was happening as well for example on the same day of Vince’s speech was the Vietnam War. Vince adapted Imagery,Metaphor, and similes in his speech,What It takes to be number one. He uses those words because the words granted the audience motivation to feel like a king.Vince gave a speech on the gigantic open field that they made history on,winning the superbowl.

Capone’s early life begins when his Italian immigrant parents Gabrielle and Teresa Capone moved to America. He was born on January 17, 1899. Al was one of eight children in his family; however his family did not make too much money being his father worked as a barber and his mother worked as a seamstress. He grew up in Brooklyn, and went to school at Brooklyn Elementary. During his sixth grade year he started falling behind so he had to repeat sixth grade. Capone started playing hooky and hung around the Brooklyn docks. One day during school the principal hit Capone for being rude and disrespectful, however instead of taking it Capone hit the principal back. They moved from their tenements to the the outskirts of Park Slope. This is the place he met his gangster mentor Johnny Torrio.

The Green bay packers had the worst record before 1950 and were known as the worst team ever. In 1966 and 1967 they won their first two super bowls and before those great wins and great touchdowns their was a great speech. The former american football player, coach, and executive in the National Football League, Vince lombardi was the head coach who took the Green Bay Packers to victory. The speech was told to his team but later it was a motivational speech for everyone. In Vince T. Lombardi’s motivational speech he evokes the diction of winning, an appeal to the common person’s abilities, and an intense tone to show that there is no room for being number two and being number one is everyone’s goal no matter what they do.

His primary and favorite out of these three, was the game of football. He played center on the schools basketball team and outfielder and catcher on the baseball team.(VLEY) CCIC did not have a football program that he could participate in. As a result of this, he transferred to St. Francis Prep High School.(VLEY) There he played guard on defense, and fullback on offense. Due to his high level of performance on the football field, Lombardi earned a scholarship to Fordham University. He became what was known as one of the “Seven Blocks of Granite” At Fordham.(VLEY) He became a well-known football star at Fordham and played it throughout his senior year. Lombardi graduated from Fordham in 1937 and started to pick up more studies. He began attending law schools at nights. To pay for the school, and to support himself, he worked for a finance company during the day. As he did before, Lombardi had another ambition to change career paths. Lombardi became a teacher at St. Cecilia High School.(VLEY) Aside from teaching, his real reason for this was the coach football. He became the assistant head football coach at the school. Joe DiMaggio Jr. was born on November 25, 1914 in Martinez, California (Caso). He had Italian Immigrant parents and grew up in San Francisco, California (Joe Bio). He lived in a small house, but with a big family (Joe Bio). His first baseball experience was at the age of ten (MCSF). He used baseball as an excuse to not help his father with fishing (MCSF). He started playing Minor league baseball at the age of 17 for the San Francisco Seals (Joe Bio). On 1930 he dropped out of high school, so he can play baseball at the diary-wagon parking lot (MCSF).

Everyday, he got up to go to work because he loved his work, not necessarily because he had to. Also, Lombardi never lost his sense of humor, which was renowned away from the field. No one visited the

The person whom I am doing my biography on is Vince Lombardi. He was born in June 11, 1913 and died in September 3, 1970. His birthplace was Brooklyn, New York and died in Washington D.C.. Vince had four siblings: Madeleine, Harold, Claire, and Joe. During his life, he faced severe discrimination.

American football is one of the most popular games played and followed in United States. Many believe it to be No. 1 sport in North America and take it as religion than sports. It is dream of majority of youngster to pursue their careers in American football, as it is source of wealth and glory. To attain a successful career one has to play this game before he is 14. He has to be part of High School League, College League, and eventually National Football League (NFL).

Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli was born on November 25, 1881 in the little village of Sotto il Monte, Italy. Growing up Angelo lived in a house with thirteen brothers and sisters. His parents were poor and worked as sharecroppers. Sharecropping is farmer that give up part of the crops as rent. Their names are Giovanni Battista Roncalli and Marianna Giulia Mazzolla.
