"It is necessary, then, to cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude." -Wallace D. Wattles, The Science of Getting Rich or Financial Success Through Creative Thought "Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity.... It turns problems into gifts, failures into success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. I think on this every night and every day. I have a huge list of things to be grateful for, as do all of us: family, friends, colleagues, students, employees, health, financial success, future successes and advancements. I am grateful when it rains (and here in the Pacific Northwest it rains a lot) because I know that's part of why the area is so lush and fruitful. I am grateful when the sun comes out (because, as I mentioned above, here in the Pacific Northwest it rains A LOT). My gratitude extends to simple things as well as complex. As I go throughout the day, I stop to consider the struggles I've endured, challenges I've overcome and lessons that have made me who I am today and I am grateful for the things I've accomplished because they have brought me to where I am in

Gratitude resonates in my mind from time to time. I remember in awe of the stories my family has told me. My mother’s two set of outfits and a single pair of shoes, when they broke, she was forced to walk barefoot. My grandmother’s forced decision to sign over her property, the only other option was a

This quote by Rhonda is very impactful because she is telling us that that being thankful is a very powerful tool to transform your life. When I was a young girl, my grandmother used to tell me the same thing as this novel is trying to convey. She would tell me to always be thankful for the day you were given, and to be happy for all the other little things throughout your day, whether it's the weather, the birds you seen in the morning, or the food you ate at dinner. Far too often in our selfish-minded culture, we forget to be thankful for the many blessings we have. There is a roof over my head, clothes on my back, food on the table, and I've never gone hungry. I'm thankful that I am homeschooled; I do not have to deal with bullies at school and I am able to have a more flexible schedule so that I have an increased amount of free time to spend with family. I am also thankful for my little sister and my parents who care for me and work hard to provide me with everything I need and want. In addition, I feel grateful for my artistic and musical talent. However, most of all, I am deeply grateful for my entire family, the warmth, love, and companionship they bring, and my relationship with
I am thankful that I have a leader that I can cherish and depend on, also known as the Lord. I am thankful that I have a great family that will allow me to fail and still have my back. A family that will cherish the time we have together. I hope to one day have as good of a marriage that my parents have today. I hope we can love God more than each other and be proud of that quality. I am so very thankful to be free and live life the way I choose. My values make me the person I am today and I wouldn’t change them for the
Gratitude has always prevailed even through “life’s greatest challenges.” These challenges involves fighting a war for another country and not getting the acknowledgement deserved. Forced to tolerate racism. Having to go through the Holocaust. Not having education. Losing a father in a war. Facing punishment in a prisoner of war camp. Fighting a civil war. These challenges were difficult for these people, but with gratitude they were able to overcome the difficulties. These people went through dreadful situations and lost many things, but one of the few things they didn’t lose was gratitude. I have learned this as I heard from my own dad and all the participants of the Gratitude Project.
Having gratitude – the quality of being thankful; a readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness – is another way people of all cultures cultivate happiness. Instead of
Orlick (2000) discusses the topic of willful focusing, which basically means that one is fully present in all situations (p. 130). With practice, he says that focusing becomes more natural, and one will automatically focus when “seeing something beautiful in nature or in another person,” (p. 130). My top strength was appreciation of beauty and excellence which means that I might not need as much willful focusing practice as other people! Emmons and McCullough (2004) discuss gratitude and the moral functions it possesses (p. 145). Gratitude was not in the top 10 of my characteristics, but it is definitely something I want to work on. According to Emmons and McCullough (2004), there are “lasting benefits” of gratitude that range from “personal and social development, to individual health and
Gratitude can be hard to muster. Especially when you are facing an unwelcome regression that threatens to derail your child's development. It is hard to watch your child falter or see an undesirable behavior that you thought was gone from your child's daily repertoire, rear its ugly head. Even harder is finding the strength to say, "Thank you, may I have another?" after regression sucker punches you. What I HAVE found much easier to say includes a K and a YOU but it has nothing to do with being thankful. The inner Mama Bear emerges….So let me be grateful for
