The Greek Civilization was one of the greatest ancient civilizations to spring up. Though it faced many trials and tribulations, the ancient Greeks were a center of trade, economic development, and technological advancements. The success of the Greeks to construct such a flourishing culture was largely due to the area in which their civilization was located.

Gender inequality has been a controversial topic for numerous religions and cultures throughout history. Women were commonly regarded as the subservient gender, an idea that was no different in Ancient Greece. Throughout Greek mythology, women were considered inferior and troublesome symbols, while men were known for courage, leadership, and strength. While there is no argument of the flagrant sexism that is illustrated in Greek mythology, it can also be claimed that women were given a situated position of freedom, necessity, and power as well. Many popular Greek plays and myths contain several complexes and well described female characters. These goddesses themselves, partook the role of victim, heroine, and villain as it illustrated the diversity of characters in which women were portrayed and seen in both Ancient Greek society and mythology, allowing us to question “Were the women of Ancient Greek mythology equally represented as free and superior?” The creation of the Greek mythological universe, the creation of multi-gendered goddesses or deities, and the free and superior personalities accredited to women in Ancient Greek mythology to answer the question that women were fairly represented as powerful in Ancient Greek mythology.

The first of two notable periods of Greek immigration to the United States began in the 1800s and continued until the 1920s. According to chnm.gmu.edu (n.d.), the economic crisis in Greece caused many Greek families to send their sons to the United States to make money to send back home to Greece. The second wave of Greek immigration occurred after World War II with the passage of Immigration and National Origins Act of 1965. This opened the door for many Greeks who had family already living in the United States, to come join them. The second generation of Greek Americans had been established by this time and they had established Greek communities as well as various businesses that were thriving.

Thorough out my high school career I was extremely involved on campus. Whether it was community service, philanthropy, or even just a club for fun I would always do my best to stay/get involved with any organization on campus. That is one of the main reason I choose to become a member of the Greek community. Being able to stay involved and continue to make my community better place through the Greek community has and will continue to be a driving factor in my life.

The myths were the reference point and they guided in the political and religious institution within the ancient Greek. The art representations and the collection of the narratives represented the Greek methodology (Powell, 2014).

Volunteering through my local churches, school and college has allowed me to interact with many individuals with differing socioeconomic status, education, race, religion and culture. However, these differences never stopped us from working together or giving our time, love and hard work to something.

Thoits says that social roles have salutary effects on well being because they are identities that provide individuals with purpose and meaning in life. The research problem being addressed here is whether role identities in fact supply purpose and meaning and whether a sense of purpose and meaning actually mediates the link between identities and well-being. The article discusses these issues, focusing on a case in point on the role-identity of “volunteer,” specifically, Mended Hearts Visitor.

The culture in America for the Greeks continue on every generation because they are very family oriented and love being surrounded by people. They welcome anyone into their lives as their own and come part of the Greek family. The first generation, the ones that immigrated to America, are known to have some sort of business, especially restaurants or bakeries. They love being their own bosses because of the freedom it has. They also work their hardest for their children to have better education and a better life then what they had, the dream of the impossible.
