I believe that not everyone will handle a gun for self-defense. The possession of a gun is a sign of power. One of the bigger ambitions that one has is to have power and the easier it is to obtain a gun; the faster a criminal will gain power over an innocent person. Guns and weaponry have always been a major part of the cultures of the world since the beginning of time. For the United States of America, gun use can be traced back to the colonial days, our revolutionary roots. They have helped the United States turn the table specifically in times of dire need such as the Revolutionary War. Not only have advances in weaponry influenced the U.S., they have also helped to shape events across the globe. In 1791, this was understood by the Founding Fathers while writing the Constitution, which can be seen in the Second Amendment: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”[1]. Gun control has been a long debate to determine if it’s better to have stricter access to firearms. America is one of the few countries that has gun rights embedded in their constitution. But what makes the US exceptional is that it has the right to keep and bear arms, other countries do not provide the right to have access to them, but rather, the government is allowed to regulate its use. The right to bear arms has also been the cause of growing violence and crime, at least according to anti-gun lobbyists. Citizens should be aware the dangers and harm that guns present to society. Controlling the sale of firearms can greatly decrease the number of violent crimes.

Even individuals who support gun rights acknowledge that some kind of people should not be allowed to have weapons because of their records. Proponents who favor gun control laws don’t believe that state and federal gun control acts do enough, they think that we need more restrictions and control, and gun rights advocates believe that the laws go too far, they think that giving the right to the government to control the purchase of weapons and allow background checks will give them the opportunity to look into our private life, and nobody wants, nor likes to be observed. Existent gun control laws prevent criminals, mentally ill people, and kids from buying guns. Unfortunately, there have been cases where teenagers and criminals have acquired weapons and used them to commit mass murders, and some other situations where kids accidentally kill themselves while playing with their parent’s gun. Weapon technology, gun ownership and even gun control laws can have unexpected consequences. Until now, there is not a perfect gun control solution, there is no way to know if gun control will make the nation safer or more dangerous until we try. If the government regulated gun laws, the murder, homicide, and mass shooting rate would rapidly decrease. However, in the article “ The Case Against Banning Guns” the writer Shiha Dalmia argues otherwise. “ There are about 300 million guns in this country- nearly one for every man, woman, and child. It’s always been brought up “guns don’t kill people, people kill people” (Mantel) while others don’t believe in it. This quote well explains that guns are not the ones to blame for the killing of a person. Instead, blame the person who pulled the trigger. Guns should not be banned from the United States’ people, instead they should be more regulated on who allowed to own a fire arm. Guns are a mean of survival and protection and always will be. They should run background checks on everyone who tries to purchase a gun. They should not sell them to people that are mentally ill or have other types of mental disorders. Guns should only be sold to people that have not committed any violent crimes. This would stop a lot of crimes concerning weapons that occur in America today. Guns should be sold to people for protection and hunting. Also, banding guns violates the second amendment, which states the right to bear arms. If the right to have guns gets banned guns will still be coming into cities near you. Furthermore, the police are not always going to be there to protect you.

Research has shown that guns in the home make suicide three times more likely. There are many reasons why the presence of a firearm in the home can 't be a risk factor for suicide. Having a firearm in the house provides impulsivity for suicide at times.  Also, firms are also so much more lethal than any other method. Most people who survived a suicide attempt do not go on to die by suicide, but only one in 10 people who attempt suicide by gun get that second chance (Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence).

Guns are a huge percentage of leading deaths in United States. If their were less guns available the percentages would decrease.
