It’s always been brought up “guns don’t kill people, people kill people” (Mantel) while others don’t believe in it. This quote well explains that guns are not the ones to blame for the killing of a person. Instead, blame the person who pulled the trigger. Guns should not be banned from the United States’ people, instead they should be more regulated on who allowed to own a fire arm. Guns are a mean of survival and protection and always will be. They should run background checks on everyone who tries to purchase a gun. They should not sell them to people that are mentally ill or have other types of mental disorders. Guns should only be sold to people that have not committed any violent crimes. This would stop a lot of crimes concerning weapons that occur in America today. Guns should be sold to people for protection and hunting. Also, banding guns violates the second amendment, which states the right to bear arms. If the right to have guns gets banned guns will still be coming into cities near you. Furthermore, the police are not always going to be there to protect you. One way that we can regulate guns is with the new gun which is a “smart gun equipped with a new technology that prevents the gun from firing in the hands of anybody but the gun’s owner”. (Raymond). With the smart gun many shootings could have been stopped. The way that the gun Vazquez 2 works is by having a transmitter on you which then the smart gun picks up and allows the user to use it. For
Gun violence kills 33,000 Americans and injures over 80,000 people per year. It is ridiculous how much damage guns have brought to not only us, but the world itself. From Columbine, to Sandy Hook, to the movie theatre to the Oregon Community College shooting, it has just been ridiculous. This is all because we in America believe it is okay for people to carry guns and for them to be used if “needed”. If they were always banned to begin with, we would never have had this problem. The private ownership of handguns should be banned in the United States. Handguns have been proved to be dangerous to society in recent events, they are the deadliest weapon in America, and lastly, guns cost Americans hundreds of extra dollars that could be avoided if they were banned.
Guns have been used throughout history for war, hunting, and protection. Since then, the killing capacity and speed of guns has improved dramatically. Guns have been a part of American culture from its roots. However, as times have changed and guns are no longer a necessity, gun control has become increasingly urgent to prevent unnecessary crime and killings. Guns should be banned for everyone but the law enforcement and military. Guns should be banned to prevent mass shootings and lower crime rates, while being supported by history and the constitution.
The history of guns has long been embedded in our society and culture. Back in the old days, people used guns for the hunting of food. Most people in those days also would use guns as their main source of income as wells as for the protection of themselves from Indians, wild animals, and other enemies. There had less rules concerning the purchasing of guns and the handling of it. However, the times are really changing and the intents of civilians to do things are sometimes not for the better. According to the viewpoint essay “Stronger Gun Control Laws Will Save Lives” by Christine Watkins, Watkins states that there are “400,000 crimes committed every year,” and “the United States has the highest rate of firearm deaths (more than 30,000 each year) among twenty-five high-income nations.” Firearms are very dangerous, and having guns does not necessarily mean that it will protect a person from enemies. It is the government’s responsibility to protect its citizens, not the citizens themselves. There would be a reduction of gun-related deaths and incidents by having stricter gun regulations and performing more thorough background checks or gun owners.
Some say that guns should be banned, but people like hunters or gun owners disagree. Instead of banning them completely, the government can just strengthen the gun laws. Guns should be a privilege and not a right for people who use them incorrectly. People should prove that they would be responsible with guns by undergoing mandatory training, knowing how to safely keep them locked away, and practice gun ownership properly.
When it comes to gun control, a considerable number of people assume it is the guns that cause the deaths that mass shootings and firearm crimes see. However, there shall never be a direct focus on the firearms themselves, but instead a focus on those who are using said weapons. Take a moment to stop and ask yourself, will a handgun kill somebody if it is just sitting on a table. No, that will never happen, to cause a gunshot to go off a being has to handle the firearm. The last thing needed in America is for mentally unstable people or a convicted felon/criminal being the one behind the trigger. Mistakenly Americans want control on the guns themselves, instead of also controlling the people buying the arms. Which the way to manage who gains access to weapons is to simply make the background checks more vigorous. Along with background checks, make new stipulations on who can buy and handle weapons and keep track of all gun sales, this includes private dealers.
Firearms are rarely used now for in justifiable reasons compared to the thousands of criminal homicides. In the rare event that a gun is legally purchased and registered, there is still a risk that the firearm could be stolen and used by those with the intent to do harm. However, homicides are more often committed through the use of legally owned guns used by the original owner. CNN reports that, “hospitalizations from gunshot wounds cost $700 million a year.” The rates of suicidal, unintentional, legal and homicidal gunshot wounds and fatalities may not be changing with or without implementation of more thorough and strict gun laws. However, there are still millions upon millions of dollars lost in the united states due to firearm injury or death. So, no one gets out of these firearm related events unscathed. The possibility of removing the ability for easy gun access could save so many lives. There should be a screening process put in place that is more thorough and difficult in order for an individual interested in purchasing the gun to be allowed to
All guns have the potential to be dangerous and should be handled with care. Guns have been part of American life for as long as people can remember. For most people guns are perceived as very dangerous and harmful. However, that is not true; guns can be dangerous, but only if they are in the wrong hands. Owning a gun is right that every American should be able to take pride in having. Guns are used for self-defense, hunting, law enforcement and other uses. The right to own a gun is protected in the 2nd constitutional amendment. Therefore, banning guns from being owned or purchased is wrong and unconstitutional. Gun control in the United States should be abolished.
Numbers in murders and harm all around the United States have been rising due to guns. Rather it’s intentional or accidental the topic has blown up causing many arguments. I believe that guns should be banned in the United States, or at least have a stricter set of rules to them instead of a person being able to simply get a gun. I don’t believe that banning guns will stop all harm, but truth be told it would stop a lot. For example, if a guy were to walk into a store with a gun and threaten people, he would have a higher risk at killing them and or getting whatever he is there for, however if he walked in with a knife he wouldn't have such a high possibility. An
Between 1999 and 2013 469,033 total deaths were caused by guns. Guns were the leading cause of homicides as well as a leading cause in most deaths passing several well-known diseases. About 200 people a day go to hospitals with gun wounds. Another repulsing facts is that American children under the age of 15 or 9 times more likely to die of a gun incident. Gun violence is an obvious problem and more gun laws could better our country as a
“Ban guns and only criminals will have guns, we are told (Milligan, Susan).” Mrs. Milligan has a valid argument with the number of acts of violence committed with firearms by citizens with no prior violent criminal history, as well as children. There have been a number of seemingly avoidable murders committed with firearms in recent years and the count is steadily rising. I agree that there should be some precautions be in place in the process of buying and selling firearms, there should be a check on violent criminal history and unlawful tendencies. There are background checks in place and when you purchase a firearm it is registered to you and the serial number corresponds to your name in the governments system.
In recent years nearly 35,000 people have been killed annually by guns in the United States. These deaths include 15,000 murders, 18,000 suicides, and 1,500 accidents.2 It is because of these statistics that many would like to ban guns altogether. But is that
Guns are a part of American history, they helped free our country, and are used to protect us today. Guns have built up the identity of our nation as a whole, we used them in many wars and to separate ourselves from Britain in order to build our own country on our terms. The use of guns is protected in the Second Amendment, which says, “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” This amendment alone should be the end of this discussion, it was written by our founding members that we have guns for our own protection and use, (Should Gun Control Laws Be Enacted).
You hear people every day emphasizing the importance of gun control questioning if the guns are helpful tool or rather killing machines and how the government should ban the guns. If you think of the matter in a logical and realistic way you would realize that most criminals do not have licenses to carry a weapon, none the less a legal and registered weapon. Actually, I think that the majority of people that would be affected by banning guns are the victims that would have been capable of defending themselves only if they had weapons to do so. Also people who own guns could protect innocents around them
When it comes to today’s society and events that are happening currently in the world, guns are the number one thing that contributes to violence. Guns are too accessible nowadays. If you live in the right state or right area you can get guns without a license. Guns culture in America is overprotected and really needs a change in policy. Guns are the weapon of choice for every crime in the news since late 2014. America needs to strengthen gun laws and have harder test for who they allow access to them. At the end of the day it’s the person behind the gun committing the crime. With that being said if we take away the power that a gun gives said person then we can eliminate majority of crime in the United States. Gun control is being ignored because it is in the constitution. Which is false; to most people they think they have the right to bear arms. Actually it is the right to bear arms if you are involved with the military. Guns need to
Gun ownership should be banned to reduce the 100,000 deaths of americans that are shot every year in the United States. Throughout America’s history, we have been known as the extremely gun violent country unfit to protect our citizens from danger. The television news reports continue to display the violent crimes and school shootings that has harmed innocent people especially children. When the government allows guns to be legal in the United States, they are giving people the responsibility to use this weapon for self defense purposes and recreational sport such as hunting. However, gun owners have been unable to handle this responsibility
