I would raise awareness for gun violence in my neighborhood by contacting the government. I never seen so many crimes in my neighborhood that I live in now until I moved back to Greenville,MS. People in my town don't take gun violence serious for the simple fact of they think it's just another day in the hood. Most people in Greenville would like to raise their child in a safe environment rather than worrying about if they send their child to school will they come back. Even schools in Greenville have school shootings. I would like to make it known to the public and tourist that come to my home town. The violence isn't that bad in other parts of Mississippi. It is in Greenville for the most part that I know. Get politicians attention by filming
What can we do about the increasing gun violence in Memphis? I say ban all guns, because in recent years gun violence has escalated and has become an epidemic not only in our communities, but all over the world. Something must be done to decrease the number of deaths and injuries that occurs from gun violence. For many years now Memphis, TN, the city where I go to school has been nationally known as a city that is plagued by violence ranking second to Washington D.C. when it comes to violent crimes committed by guns. Studies released by the FBI ranked Memphis as one of the top three most dangerous cities in America. This year according to statistics, Memphis ranked second to Detroit and has some of the most dangerous neighborhoods to live
This study provides an investigation on youth feelings and reactions towards gun violence in an urban setting. The focus group validated that gun violence causes mental health behavior problems and stress among youth in Jersey City. However, participants in this study indicated that they have been a victim of gun violence sometime in their life. All participants highlighted that they have heard gun shots before and are used to it by now. In the discussion, many participants stated that if they go to the police that would not reduce gun violence in Jersey City because people will still continue to kill and shoot one another. The findings of this study displayed that gun violence is a huge problem in Jersey City that needs more attention from
Many students in America, might consider school almost like a home because they spend about half a day in. We need students to be safe at school, so why not have an officer patrolling the hallways. To make the school much safer, the officers should have guns in case there is a threat towards the students. In the eyes of many United State citizens a gun can symbolize death; however, a gun can save several people’s lives. As U.S citizens, we have the right to keep and bear arms, so why do we not have police officers with guns patrolling schools. “Gun violence is a major social issue in America and American schools and university campuses have become targets of gun violence” (Bond). In the U.S we had several severe situations when someone comes to the school and starts to kill not only students, but teachers and staff, this could have been prevented if we were prepared and secured. Although the opposition may suggest it could be more dangerous to have an officer or guard be allowed with a gun; however, having an officer with a gun would decrease the number of shootings and other minor problems at schools.
Gun violence is the sign of a far greater universal problem in America today. Violence and gun violence specifically, is surrounded within, and spread all through every part of our society. All the reasons remain intimately related to the actual solution, which can only be a general solution one by treating it as one issue. The region that I live in is considered a peaceful part of Harvest, which I am particularly grateful about. I do not have to worry about gunfights in the roads of my community, nor maybe being helpless confronted by students with a gun at school. That, nevertheless, does not mean that my community is impermeable to gun violence. Huntsville has seen its share of gun violence from the incident at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), where three people were murdered and three others injured on February 12, 2010. Throughout the course of a routine gathering of the biology department attended by about 12 people, professor Amy Bishop stood up and began shooting those next to her with a 9-millimeter handgun (Hall 2010)
The United States is one of the few countries were the right to bear arms is protected by the constitution. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most violent with incidents involving guns this year reaching an estimated 36,212 and an approximate 9,050 deaths (“Gun Violence Archive”). There are an estimated 310 million firearms in households across American, these are only estimates because current gun laws do not require them to be registered or tracked. A more staggering estimate is that most of the guns owned by private citizens are semi-automatic guns, the same type of gun used in almost all mass shootings. While these privately owned guns are legally purchased, many times, they land in the hands of criminals, and owners never report them stolen. Mass shootings and gun crimes are not the only issues with gun violence the one never talked about is suicide, more guns available equals more suicides. The United States is one of the easiest countries to own a gun legally or illegally, stricter gun control laws are necessary.
Gun violence has been around for centuries and there have been many mass shootings, homicides and suicides. There is always the argument on “do guns kill people” or “do people kill people”? What people really need to be looking at is the problem which is people stocking up on guns and not knowing how to properly handle them and all the mass shootings that are taking place. As a country, people need to be coming up with solutions instead of doing nothing.
Before I get into the strategies put in place to reduce gun violence, I want to touch on the things that contribute to gun violence in New Haven. According to the “Selected Strategies for Community Gun Violence Prevention” report, violent crimes contribute to and are exacerbated by economic disadvantage (City-Wide). The main area in New Haven where gun violence occurs is in areas of low-income and poverty and the gun violence are being executed by the youth ages 15-24. In this day and age, we are living in a society where your income level determines your life expectancy, whether it is homicide, suicide or another form of violent activity. Living in New Haven and experiencing this first hand, I was able to see how the power and the struggle of poverty, low-income, gang wars and even drug activity can exacerbate gun violence. New Haven has as many as 2,500 people who are in gangs. These gangs lie in six neighborhoods in New Haven. The gangs being, The Ville, The Tre, The Tribe, The Jungle, The Island and The Hill hold responsibility
Missouri is an amazing state, full of interesting sights and sounds. There is the towering, metal Saint Louis Arch. The massive and beautiful Union Station. The large wheat fields, the long flowing Missouri river, and the large, beautiful Ozarks forests. Missouri, even after these things, like any states, is not perfect. Unlike some states however, Missouri has many flaws that can very easily be fixed, but the problem is that Missouri government is not doing much to stop it, one of the biggest problems being gun control. We are losing so many lives in major shootings at schools. The part that makes me mad is that after mourning the loss for a bit, we move on, forgetting the tragedy left behind. Missouri is not being very strict about these gun laws, and it is hurting us in the social look from other states, and making us seem like a state that doesn’t care. We need to take control of these gun laws to make Missouri a safer place.
The city of New Orleans is one of the most populated cities in the United States of America Within the city communities face serious problems daily. Crime is major issue that haunts the mind of people within the community. Gun violence in New Orleans is a serious issue that needs to be solved. It seems like every day there is person that loses there life to gun violence. New Orleans murder rate is one of the highest in the United States today. Most of the gun violence is because of senseless people doing stupid things. I’m against gun violence because I feel that no one should lose their life for any reason. In this essay I will explain what I think could help stop gun violence, and what’s already being done to combat it.
Everyday 93 Americans are killed by guns. Whether it is due to homicide or suicide, it does not matter. At the end of the day gun violence is increasing exponentially. In numerous states, gun laws have been placed in the hopes of reducing gun violence. But now many people believe that gun violence should be treated as a public health problem. I for one feel that gun violence should be put in the category of public health. Every year more than 30,000 people are victims to gun related incidents. It has become such an issue that gun violence is causing more deaths than some life threatening diseases.
It has spread to the suburbs and small towns. Gun violence rates have increased in the last decade due to hatred and societal issues, and while shooters and victims both face many difficult obstacles, there are some solutions that the public and schools can enforce through awareness.
During the past years gun violence has seen an enormous increase in various parts of the world and majority of the cases been reported in the United States. The case includes victims such as children, senior citizens and young adults engaging in violence or getting caught in the crossfires. The life of common people is being affected, people are concerned as to how they can live safe lives when guns are being used in increasing numbers. On an average, every day you hear about some sort of gun violence affecting people either in your hometown or in another part of the world. It is a shame for a country like United States to have such high
How can the DC metro area reduce violence regarding firearms? How can gun control laws helps solve this issue?
Chicago and Puerto Rico are very different places but the poems “Where I’m from” by Willie Perdormo and “CHICAGO” by Carl Sandburg show some similarities. The cities in each of the poems have very similar problems but the treat them very differently. Chicago is a very proud city were as the Puerto Rican town seems to be ashamed of its own problems. Despite these problems the cities problems are still very similar.
This week I learn about the current events in my colleagues neighborhood. I read a student discussion talking about the tornado that happen in her city I could imagine that affect it had on the children. I think it is great that we are discussing what is happening in our neighborhood so we can be aware. The gun violence in Chicago has changed so many families life. I remember a article about a boy coming to Chicago to visit his family and he was gunned down accidently. I think educators can educate children about what is going on in the city that they reside in.
