A time in my life in which I have been successful is when I graduate from college. Even though this was my second degree I was going to receive, it was the next stepping stone to heighten my career in healthcare. It was an uneasy decision, but I was determined to achieve my Bachelor’s in Science in Healthcare Administration.

In August of 2007 I decide to further my education and attend classes at the University of Phoenix. I was in customer service as a bartender and waitress and have three children. I had my children young but knew I had the potential to improve the quality of my life and apply personal experience in my field of interest. Since personal experience was not enough, I knew I had to get the credentials to pay forward.

Time flows like a river and you find yourself not thinking the way you used to as a child. As I grew older, my dreams and goals changed as well as my mindset on how to achieve those aspirations. Mercyhurst University’s Public Health Program is the main step toward helping me achieve my career goal of becoming a Registered Health Information Technician. I’d like to define success as many achievements and accomplishments, as well as the coming of knowledge for that which was unknown to one’s self. Therefore, there should never be an ending to a success story. It was when I graduated as a medical assistant that sparked the realization to what field I was most interested in.

Since the inauguration of my health care career at Keck Medicine of USC, I knew there would be no other academic institution that could better prepare me to excel at becoming a leader amongst the health care community. I have inquired with multiple USC hospital employees about the EMHA program, and all have spoken with high regards that USC offers an excellent healthcare administration master’s degree. I hope to be challenged intellectually while developing leadership skills necessary to mature into a successful leader. My work experience has prepared me to undertake the challenges that would be associated with remaining a full time employee at USC while pursuing an Executive Master of Health Administration.

The Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) offered by Berry College will differentiate my skill sets from other sports medicine professionals. As a certified athletic trainer, I will be licensed to practice in multiple settings and states as an allied healthcare provider. However, achieving that licensure is a short term goal. As a healthcare professional, I intend to advance my career by working in the administrative aspect of medicine. Participating in a process that results in patients receiving care from professionals with a mind of integrity, heart of compassion, hands of service, and a spirit of unity is very intriguing and is an exciting career goal I possess. Kudler Fine Foods (KFF) was established in 1998 by Kathy Kudler. Kathy Kudler created KFF to provide a unique brand of quality organic foods for the communities in California. KFF first store to begin operation was La Jolla Store (Kudler, 2003). The La Jolla store is doing very well in the community in which it was established. Ever since I was a child, I dreamed of perusing a career in the business world. I can vividly remember being influence by parents, as my mother perused a career as a Nurse and my father perused a career as an entrepreneur. During this time I developed the aspiration of pursuing a career in business in the healthcare industry. I intend on obtaining my Masters degree in Business Administration with a concentration on Healthcare Management. I am determined to take the necessary steps to fulfill my dream of becoming a Healthcare Administrator.

The Marylhurst Healthcare MBA program and 26 years of work experience in the healthcare industry will enable me to help others find and receive affordable quality healthcare. Even though, we have Obama Care people are complaining that they cannot receive quality medical care at affordable prices. In some cases, they are going without medical treatment because they cannot afford the co-pays. In addition, some people want to obtain natural healthcare and most insurance companies will not cover important naturopathy testing. It is this that has inspired me to learning the business aspect of running a hospital and using this knowledge to become a healthcare advocate.

I am a Health Services Administration major. It has been a long time goal of mine to enter the healthcare field, but more so in the administrative field of healthcare. I have miniscule work experience in the healthcare field; I have worked previously as a customer service representative scheduling transportation reservations for patient medical appointments. As of now, I am working as an appointment scheduler for nurse practitioners to make in-home visits.

My plan for ultimately achieving my professional goal is to complete the BSHA program at University of Phoenix and be able to meet the minimum education requirements of qualifying to become a health care manager. I will continue on with my education and pursue a MHA to bring about more opportunities and expand my health care knowledge because I feel that it is necessary to advance. I would like to remain current with policies, procedures, and health care laws to bring my best into any organization that affords me the opportunity to be a part of their establishment. I will also seek out professional organizations that can help me achieve my professional goals by way of networking and mentorship. Partnerships are vital in succeeding in the health care industry and I understand that now. I am now curious about joining the American Council for Health Care Executives (ACHE). I think this organization could definitely help me in achieving my professional goals. I think I would also be a valuable asset to their professional organization as well.

This experience reminded me principles which I learned from this program. Professor Stark states that leaders must keep in mind that money loses values over time. As a prospective healthcare leader, I am convinced that leaders must take risks because there are good challenges for expansion, and the time value of the money depends on the organization’s leader choice of assumptions and methods that fit its organization in managing finances while staying in the general norms of general accepting accounting principles (GAAP). The program has offered me a terrific career advice and I see myself five years from now in a better position where I can fully utilize my expertise. I am grateful for the HCA program.
