State health programs are responsible for educating and preventing the spread of HIV. The reason I am proving this statement is because AIDS is a big motive of why more than 35 million people have died from the disease itself and 36.7 million were living with the illness in the United States. The government should be responsible for the effect of these hospitals on the HIV outbreak(Gruskin 1). Another reason is that the government should educate children in schools to prevent the spread of the sickness because children are dying mostly everyday throughout the United States from the sickness and children should be updated and taught about the HIV epidemic so they can know what to do and how to prevent the spread upon themselves in their future.
Children and adolescents should be acknowledged about HIV/AIDS because during their teenage going into young adults stage, they start to have sexual relations with their close ones and he/she would not know if their partners or if they have the illness of HIV/AIDS(Moore 1). If the state health programs can let most schools have sex educational based classes, it would probably be less percentage of children and teens getting in contact with HIV/AIDS in the United States. I believe that all schools should teach an inclusive form of sexual education. I believe that teaching abstinence is not working in the slightest because the rate of teenagers who are sexually active is gradually increasing. Since the fact is that teens are participating in sexual intercourse, we need to teach them how to have sex safely. First, with young students this subject may be a little uncomfortable to talk about, but without learning about sexuality extensively many students may be unaware of the hazards of unprotected sex. In this day in time it is not an uncommon sight in my school to see a young girl with a baby bump. Or when you hear of that someone has contracted an STD it is not that surprising. My mom speaks of a time when someone contracted a STD it was handled like a death sentence. Also whenever a young girl became pregnant after she started “showing” you would not see her until after the baby was delivered. I believe that there are countless factors to why many teens in my Community are more vulnerable to having risky sex, such as the media, lack of activities and peer pressure. I believe that since most teens between the ages of 13-18 are in school for eight hours out of the day five day a week and many parents are at work when they arrive home until late at night that this issue could be addressed at school. So I believe that schools should pass out condoms to high school students.
Students can now access any site on the internet that contains adult content or pornographic materials. That is why sex education should be implemented in schools. It is better for children to be informed earlier because they will still know about it when they grow up as they will be more exposed to it through their peers and the media (Cooper, n.d.). Through sex education, young people are able to communicate, listen, negotiate with others, ask for and identify sources of help and advice when it comes to sexual relationships. Through communication teenagers more confident and know better about the consequences of having sex before marriage.
If schools had sex education classes and made them mandatory then they would actually learn about sex and sexuality like they are suppose to. “Sex education teaches them about their bodies, informs them of the risks of having sex, and teaches them about safe sex” (Blick). Learning about sex in school would be less uncomfortable for the student, because it would feel like a normal class they have to take, instead of a one on one talk with their parents, who makes it worse than it is since they do not know how to talk about it. Letting the school teach about sex and sexuality would take the pressure off of the parents, and they wouldn’t have to struggle thinking of something to tell their child. Sex education in school would be a sure way to be certain that students learn about everything they need to know.
