Helping others can be very rewarding and beneficial to both parties. After going to the Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting and Our Community Place (OCP), I have realized the benefits of helping others and I have gained new perspectives on others. While I was there I met some very interesting people that might not have the best lives but they know how to make the best of what they have. I felt like I gained some knowledge and insight on different things and it made me feel good to help them out. In my lifetime I feel as though I have overcome many obsticles and accomplished many goals and as I looked around at others that were less fortunate than me I became even more thankful and more willing to help others. It made me feel good to see others …show more content…
Some see it as a church or a counseling center. It is a place to go for enjoyment and help. They provide food and exercising as well as plays, activities or talent shows. The shelter is a place for homeless people in the city and a place for them to pray and seek religious insight. The leader of the OCP is Ron Copland and is a great supporter and motivator for this shelter. He wants everyone to feel closer and equal. He has had many great ideas to make this place a successful shelter and made him a respectable leader and achiever. He is extremely dedicated and spends most of his time and money into this volunteer only facility. He is a very inspirational man and has done so much in his lifetime to help others that time I was there I wanted to help and show my gratitude and respect for all he has done. He is a wonderful man and he has succeeded in life. The OCP is a group that uses caring experiences and working together to help others. Recovering alcoholics and current alcoholics come here to work together and keep busy while trying to get over their problem. They use agriculture and other jobs to show them how to move on and work together. They use a program called OCM which is our community works. They learn to work with each other versus doing it all alone. The center does many activities and programs to get everyone involved and help them run these programs and volunteers like my self help keep this
One thing that stood out to Adrian is not so much some of the stories but as a numbers guy seeing the monthly reports on how many people have been helped or benefited from the shelter. The numbers are staggering you know the need is there another report is they track volunteer’s hours. It shows there is a need and people are interested in helping in their community. He was surprised by these numbers. What is most inspiring to Adrian is the volume of people who want to help this cause.
What became evident in my life, were the snowball effect consequences that come with making good or bad choices. Due to this, I arrived to the realization that helping others is principal for all to do. In my opinion, helping others is like guiding and counseling them consciously like a counselor. When family would support me with a difficult situation, I was advised and able to transcend. Everyone will
Helping others is in my system and I cannot ignore it. In the 10th grade, a couple of my friends and I tried our hardest
Helping those in need is also a big part of my life. I like to volunteer my time to help those in need who I may not necessarily know. I may not know how exactly my volunteering helps them but I know that my work has made an impact on their life. I think it is important to help those in need even if you do not know them. I being helping and giving back to the community has helped me become more understanding and selfless.
housing for homeless young adults, many of whom have aged out of foster care. It serves
The population the agency services is homeless families in the community. There services extend to everyone in the family beginning with kids, parents, grandparents, and so on. Although homeless families are what most of their programs are centered on they do serve individuals. Their services are offered to people of all ages, race, and religion if they are in need of them.
I believe that it is extremely important to help others, and this also provides an appreciation for the people around you. I make sure to participate in a service project at least once a month to give back to the community. For example, I take part in Animal Anti-Cruelty every month. By helping animals in animal shelters, I can aid the animals that give people so much joy. Benefitting the community enables you to reflect on your own actions and how to further help others, and it is fun to take part in helping causes that I am passionate about.
I wasn’t aware of the importance of doing good for others, until recently that I witnessed it with my own eyes. It all started when was at Chicago, a random man helped out a homeless man and bought him some food. I noticed as I was in line that the cashier then gave the helping man a free choice to pick something he wanted due to the action he did. After that day I began to make an attempt at helping out more and being a better person in general.
I have always enjoyed helping people out. In my school they have a club called National Honors Society. This club gives people more of an opportunity to do community service hours. Everyone is required to complete fifteen hours a year. Last year I completed over twenty five hours of community service. Every time I saw I had an opportunity I would take it. I don't see those fifteen hour requirements as the only way to be and stay in this club; I see it as an opening to be able to help my community all for a return of a smile. People need to see that there are others just like me, who are willing to help, and want the best for others, for nothing in return. I have never known why it is that helping others when they are needed makes me feel happy. In a way, it's one of my happiness's. I know what it's like to have a need and to not have anyone around to help. I am the kind of person who doesn't want others to feel that way, at least not all the time. I know every day someone has a need of some kind and they can't do anything about it. That's what people like me are for, to help out even if it's just every once in a while. Events all around constantly need help setting things up or just need a little help. All the help people can get is always good enough. I am taking responsibility to help people see that not everyone is selfish, not everyone takes advantage of things. I am always grateful to be able to give my time to my community, my people. America needs more people who are willing to give. Donations can be made to hospitals or orphanages. I do community service and projects now, they may be little, but I know they still matter. In my future, I see myself to continue my route, possibly even creating bigger community projects. Because America can only focus on so much, people like me are able to take care of the rest of the
The non-profit I have chosen for my leadership project is the East Cooper Community Outreach program. This program is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1989 to assist victims following the devastation of Hurricane Hugo. East Cooper Community Outreach, also known as ECCO, offers assistance to the numerous people in Mount Pleasant subsisting at the poverty level, also recognized as the “working poor.” ECCO is essential to the community and we will learn about this organization’s genesis and the significant ways it has contributed to the residents of East Cooper.
They offer many services on top of serving food. They also offer clothing, toilettes, a listening ear and they also partner with many other organization to fight poverty.
The shelter can provide meals throughout the day not just for the recipients but for anyone who needs it. Meals can be provided to those people who have jobs or assisted income but still can’t afford to feed their families. A homeless person “who receives three meals a day at the shelter and can now focus on other priorities”( Siple). In addition, they can provide some medicines or access to medical personnel. Even the little things we take advantage of like cold medicine can be a substantial way to help with the burden of people dealing with poverty. Shelter staff also offer programs for mental illness and addictions. Bathing facilities offered in shelters are essential to better health. This helps to limit the spread of chronic illnesses from uncleanliness and being exposed to the elements such as weather.
Understanding these reasons for volunteering, is important and could give us concrete answers as to why people would participate in long-term volunteering. The issue of sufficient support networks for people in need is very important. It has a very crucial role to play in the well-being of people. We all need support when we are going through difficult times and knowing that there is someone there for you, someone who cares, can make all the difference in the world.
When I am at best, I help people. I motivate myself and feel motivated when I get to help others. Whether it’s a stranger, colleague, friends, or family, I feel my passion in assisting those in need. As long as it’s within my capability and moral belief that what people ask for help is ethical and legal, I give them my attention and time. I feel happy that I am able to give a hand, and I feel happy to see people become happy with the help I give them. Helping others put smiles on my face and also on them as well. I feel proud of myself that I have the power to help the
One time I had to help my friend Louie. We had been at my house and he forgot to turn his lights off in his old pickup. He went to start it and it would not turn over, he realized that he left his lights on. I brought my pickup over to try and jump start his pickup. I wasted a quarter tank of gas revving up my truck to try to provide more power. At this point we gave up, we then realized that we could roll start his pickup. I pulled his truck with my truck up the bump to my sloped driveway. He got rolling, popped the clutch, and off he went.
