High School Degree

Many people believe that a college education is a worthy investment. The ability to become a college graduate will result in making more money. There are more jobs in today’s society that require college degrees. College graduates develop more and better employment opportunities within earning a degree. Self-discipline is a major element in becoming a successful graduate. Also, college graduates are healthier and live longer. Adults-young and old, male and female-who have a bachelor’s degree or higher have twice the annual median income than someone with only a high school degree ("Do college graduates," 2014).

Achieving a college degree is worth the time and effort as well as the financial struggle because there is more to be gained besides context knowledge. College is something that has dropped in importance as less and less people attend every year. These students are unsure as to whether it is worth it.Parents push their kids towards college and some even tell them not to go because of financial problems. This pressure students to make a life changing decision. This is all things that may keep a student from a secondary education that could kick-start a new and better life.

There is a big difference between having a college degree and a high school diploma. To be exact, there is about a $400 per week difference in what is earned between those who only have a high school diploma and those who have bachelor’s degree. There also is a major substantial difference in unemployment. With a high school diploma, you are looking to earn $1.2 million, but those with a bachelor’s degree can look to see an increase which is $2.1 million. Also, people with a master’s degree look to get around $2.5 million over a lifetime. These are all reasons why college is important to intend. Earning a diploma, a degree or even a trade can significantly affect one's future financial status. An education-or lack thereof- can mean the difference between being poverty stricken or financially stable. College graduates earn an average of 66 percent more than non graduates and often enjoy additional benefits, including greater job opportunities and promotions.(Source: study.org) However,  according to spotlightonpoverty.org, 69 percent of students graduate from college on time, yet many graduate without the skills needed for college or work. Without an education chances of obtaining a decent paying job is slim, which can result in a life of impoverishment. "Policymakers and education leaders must implement strategies to reduce the high school dropout rate and adequately prepare high school students for college, while providing low income students with the support they need to attain a degree or credential."

Although students will be stressing about the cost at first, it will be worth it at the end. In the future, college education could raise a student’s chance of economic success. In this generation attending college is more of a necessity. We are raised to believe that we need a higher education in order to succeed in life.

The college debate is a hot topic and whether or not to attend college is a question that is increasingly harder to answer. At some point in every young adult’s life, and sometimes not so young, they must make the decision about whether or not to pursue a college education. For some, going to college is something they always knew they would do; while others agonize over the importance of a college education and the burden of taking on a large amount of debt to pay for it. For those who are fortunate enough to have parents who have the means to pay for college, it might seem like a no brainer, while for others it may very well be one of the most daunting decisions of their life thus far. Although I do believe that a college education would be valuable for everyone on a personal growth level and for many, on a financial level; in this day and age encouraging everyone to go to college may simply not be the best approach. In many ways our culture places too much emphasis on college as the only path to success while failing to recognize the value in alternatives to higher education. As a culture we need to acknowledge that there are many paths to learning, and our job markets must learn to acknowledge this too.

     It seems in the society we live in today, having a college degree is a necessity. Years ago it was the norm for people to just go right into a full time job after high school, if they even finished high school; they did this to support their families. In today’s society a person has a difficult time getting a decent job without a college degree. There are only very few jobs that actually don’t require any education to get that job. For example, working at Walmart or Target getting part time pay being a cashier or loading shelves. It is not a career; it is just a job to gets them money. Having an education doesn’t guarantee anyone of getting the job they are applying for, but it definitely gives them an edge over somebody applying for the same position without a degree. Also with a college education there will be many more opportunities in the career field then there would be for someone without the college education. President Obama was once quoted saying, “By the end of this decade two in three job openings will require some higher education. Two in three. America is known for being the land of opportunity where typically the favored goal of the people is acquiring wealth for a better lifestyle and future. Growing up as a kid I was always told by my teachers and parents that higher education after high school is extremely necessary; this same expectation goes for the whole country as there is clearly emphasis on getting a college degree in order to be successful. Although college may not be for everyone, there are those who would really like to gain acceptance to an institution, but cannot because they do not have the money to do so. The rise in cost to be a college student has become too expensive for a country that encourages, and emphasizes higher education. Tuition and fees, loans, and extra expenses become a big price to pay for wanting to play the proper role in society as a student looking for a better future.

Receiving a high school diploma from Penn Foster is very important to me and to my future. Personally, having a high school diploma would give me more self-confidence to complete more tasks in life, as well as experiencing pride and self-esteem. Since, many job opportunities requires a high school diploma, I would be able to move forward into the medical field after receiving mine. Not only is having a diploma a benefit to me, but it will impact my child’s life in a positive light; by being able to provide a better life for him. Employment rates rises with variables due to education. It is clear that more opportunities are available to workers if they acquire a degree. Statistics shown on National Center for Education “the rate of employment increases nearly 10% and increasing on the level of degree”(Fast Facts). This is a drastic impact with the current job rate today. Additionally, having a degree builds a foundation for an independent to start their own business. Graduating from college implements the goals of becoming successful. “Entrepreneurial dreams are obtainable once becoming a new graduate”(The Muse). Acquiring a degree allows people to pursuit their dreams and happiness and be successful.

In the first step you can start by picking up all the dirty clothes and taking it to the laundry room, then fold or put away the clean clothes neatly so later on it isn’t hard to find something to wear. Second step is have a trash bag and pick up all the big trash on the floor. Third step sweep all the dust and small trash into the trash bag. Fourth step pick up all the stuff on your bed, vanity , ect. Fifth step mop the floor and put good smelling stuff in your room then your done.

High school seniors who have the opportunity to get a higher education should take it and make the best out of it. Going to college to receive this higher education has numerous rewarding consequences in the long run.

The importance of a college degree is centered around society views on telling students that it is the right way to go. The biggest reason college is not an option for some people because of debt. “As of June 2016, about 42 million Americans owed $1.3 trillion in student debt,” (Is a College Education). Also, the debt can cause students to go out and waste their college degrees. For example, when students graduate they live with their parents and also delay relationships. On the account of debt that college brings, going to college is worth the cost because you would learn new skills, will have financial and career benefits, and the ability to self-improve.
