High school is an extremely important time in a teenager’s life. They are taught many skills that are important to their future. More teenagers are dropping out of school each year for various reasons. The high school dropout age should be raised because it creates a lifetime of challenges. Dropping out of high school affects one’s future and quality of life. The high school dropout age should be raised to eighteen because of how much it affects a person’s future. High school dropouts usually already have many problems and hardships. Many students drop out because they have low grades or are unmotivated in school. They do not make enough money to support themselves and it puts them in stressful situations. Most students dropout because they are receiving low grades, not attending school regularly, or are unmotivated. Students should graduate high school because of the message it sends about the importance of having diploma in today’s economy (Wise 521). The majority of dropouts say that if they could go back in time they would stay in school. Most dropouts regret their decision of not finishing high school. The dropout rate should be raised to give students awareness of what their life without a diploma consists of. It does not only affect them when they dropout, but years later. If they have children, their kids are more likely to dropout just like they did. Overall, someone with an education is happier because they do not have to worry about the stress of so many things. Raising the dropout age is a very controversial subject. Opposing views have many concerns on why the age should be raised and what the importance of it is. Opponents might claim that students who do not want to be in class will disrupt the students who want to be there and learn, but students who disrupt the class have consequences. A teacher will not let a student continually disrupt other students. The student will be removed from the class and situation to make sure there is a positive learning environment for the
