Do you you think students should be required to volunteer in their communities to receive their high school diplomas? I for one do not think you should be required to volunteer for your community in order to get your diploma. In my eyes no one should be forced to volunteer to do anything however, volunteering does teach responsibility and builds character. Volunteering for something on your own shows what type of person you are however, being forced to volunteer isn’t really volunteering. I do not feel like you should be forced to volunteer for your community in order to get a high school diploma but I do think volunteering is a good thing to do.
Volunteering for something is usually something you want to do, you do not volunteer for something
Many schools require students to participate in community service, but I think this is a good idea. Many schools do not require students to volunteer in community service. I agree that students should have to volunteer to graduate. I think that students should be forced to volunteer for community service sometime in their high school career as it makes people work and shows them what work really is. It also gets people off there lazy tail.
Some people believe that requiring students to volunteer in order to receive their high school diploma defeats the purpose of volunteering. They believe that it would cheapen the work that the students are doing. They believe that the students would not put the required effort into the volunteer work. However, once the students start volunteering, they will forget that they are required to. The students will be proud and have a feeling of accomplishment in the work they are doing and put effort into volunteering in the community. Therefore, students should have to do volunteer work to receive their
In Dave Egger’s article “Serve or Fail’ he explains how college students should be required to volunteer for public service. Dave Egger’s describes how many college students spend most of their time doing things that aren't necessary such as “ maybe they're in their rooms, painting their toenails black with a Q-tip and shoe polish.”(180) I do not agree with Dave Egger’s that students should do community service hours because they are several reasons why they won't be able to. Many college students have families to take care of, jobs they have to work in order to pay off bills or attend school classes and etc.
For one of my friends Eagle project, we went around the cemetary and recorded all the information given about veterans. These records would be put down online so that anyone serching for a specific person could find where they are buried. It was actually a fun job, we got to see all the awards given to some of these vets and compare them. It was interesting to see just how much some people had done to serve our country. I both helped decipher eroded gravestones and and took pictures of what we were doing. This experience allowed me to gain a deeper understanding and respect for those who have served.
Why as high school students should we be required to volunteer in our community to receive a high school diploma? No, we as high school students should not be required to participate in a volunteer program in our community because there’s no transportation, no places to volunteer and no time to commit.
Service learning has given me the new opportunity experience helping others and including myself. I enjoy volunteer work because It’s a way of giving back to the community, but also I’ve become confident in public speaking. In addition, volunteer work is a great rewarding experience, and it 's also helped me develop social skills, by supporting others. The contribute can make a positive impact in many ways, Barack Obama said, “ the best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the work with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.” There are element that could promise will succeed in life, however, I believe to learn and discover. I will continue volunteering work whenever I can, and I strongly encourage people to join volunteer work because the meaningful impact the lives of their and help thousands of the students confront in reading. It was a great pleasure for me to contribute to the organization to the development of the community through Political Science class volunteering work. The impact that was able to make our community better future.
At global level, I will improve the lives of others and mine by providing the spirit of humanity and goodness to them to act like it. Develop weekly volunteering work that everyone should serve in it starting from their own needy people of relatives ,neighborhood , their city and community. Improvement the life begin from being cooperation and make good on the life of others.
As this charity is a small scale charity organisational structure it is currently made from 15 employees, they only have a handful of employees to work and communicate with. There are 3 main trustees that have employed 3 managers that manage a specific group of their charity and are in charge of certain employees, every month the 3 main University trustee cast a meeting with the 3 managers and establish their new goals and to discuss their progress on their fundraising projects. Manager # 1 is in charge of 2 full time employees and 10 volunteers in this charity, this manager is in charge of the fundraising for their exempt charity. They come up with and execute many fundraising events to gather money for their trustees to donate to a chosen charity, they also try to work with variety of people to conclude their events making sure they raise as much money as they can and try to persuade people to donate as it is going towards a good cause.
I do not agree that it is a requirement to volunteer because to be a volunteer means to have a choice to do that activity and being forced is not volunteering. Some people might have a job and won't have time for volunteering and that can affect their graduation. School already forces you to do so much to graduate and that is just too much for one person to worry about. If there is a major injury in a sport a person might not be able to volunteer and then with the school rules you can't graduate so this is not a smart idea.
Unfortunately one major question arises from this obligation. Does mandatory volunteering truly invoke the spirit of volunteering? Selective colleges, in general, are more stringent than they were in the past by the recruiting process. In fact, the admission committees of these respective colleges accurately discern inadequate applications from powerful ones, especially in relationship to the commitment level of community service. Passion for community service is a vital indicator for recruiting. They desire students who strongly dedicate themselves to volunteer with something that coincides with their interests or major. However, “mandatory volunteering” generates a belief that community service is a hindrance and a deliberate waste of time towards obtaining a diploma. The embodiment of community service diminishes as these educational institutions continue to exercise their power to regulate civic engagement. Thus, selective colleges are likely to identify and reject those who only fulfill the negative aspects of mandatory
As a peace Corps volunteer there are trials that are expected on the field. Peace corps volunteers are placed in a community working to improve the challenges of the country in grass roots interactions. I served as a Peace Corps volunteer in a town near the center of Sierra Leone called Magburaka. The town was impoverished; there were very little access to basic provisions. In a year and half my definition of community started to form. Unfortunately, my time in Sierra Leone was cut short. All the Peace Corps Volunteers in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone were evacuated due to the Ebola Virus Disease. Being abruptly ripped away from the relationships, temporary home and projects was challenging and hard to endure. The experience reinforced my desire to make a difference and return to Sierra Leone once more. After a year of work in the states, I decided to go to Sierra Leone as Response Peace Corps volunteer and complete my definition of community.
I think that community service shouldn't be required to graduate high school. I feel like if there was a community service requirement, most students would resent the assignment and therefore not benefit from having done the service. The school should give opportunities to do community service, but it shouldn't be required. There is definitely benefit to having done some community service, but the benefit of the student gets nullified if the student isn't into it.
When you tutor or volunteer you are doing a service for your community and for yourself.
Throughout history, volunteering has evolved into a cultural connection; a common characteristic of humans on a local, national, and global level is the desire to help one another. Although this statement is not necessarily true for every individual, most people feel an urgency to assist friends, family members, coworkers, and/or strangers in need or in crisis. Why should we volunteer? Many people donate their time for varying reasons whether it’s fundraising for disaster relief or collecting, preparing, and serving food for a food bank (Moore). Maybe it’s the warm sensation in your heart after you play a game of chess with a bedridden cancer patient, or the contagious smiles shared between servers and recipients at a soup kitchen that
As an 18-year-old tennager, I was forced by my parents to participate a summer volunteer program in my freshman year. Even though I felt that I was a victim of “tyranny” in the beginning, I realized that I actually enjoyed the process of helping people in the middle of the program. Now, I participate that program every year as an active member, and I have gained the personal enrichment that I am unable to learn from other sources such as math club or SAT preparatory class. There is no doubt that community service can bring essential benefits in helping students develop their moral value and future interest, and it should be mandatory because some students attempt to utilize community service as a tool for their own profit without the school supervision.
