Don’t Roll Your Eyes It's not political radicalism or partisanship that has made conservatives, some on the dynamic left, and ordinary voters loathe Hillary Clinton to such an extent. The answer is shockingly simple and the one easiest for doubters to expel: Sexism. For Hillary Clinton, the standard was flawlessness, a standard against which just she was measured. With a long and certifiable record to public service and liberal change, a record that ranges from 2016 to 1973, is savvy as a whip, and a scholar as well; yet numerous voters in the 2016 presidential race were convinced that she was a degenerate, money grubbing, and even murderous. A vile Hillary Clinton ruled conservative media, additionally began to show up in standard news coverage; a Hillary Clinton which does not …show more content…
Hillary Clinton was held to outlandishly high expectation. This can be more clearly illustrated now, since a bigoted, racist, sexual predator, was able to win the presidency; over a woman who had so much ambition that much of the country viewed her as a threat. Arguments against Hillary Clinton’s trustworthiness and fitness for leadership replaced a full treatment of her qualifications. That ought to constrain us to recognize that men can create so much conflict, yet still hold status, not women, though. Hillary Clinton was almost immediately labeled as unlikable and unpopular. Her voice and looks were brutally investigated and scrutinized. Injurious names were directed at her by her political rival and a scope of observers in a way that was indistinct from sexual
Sexism is prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, commonly towards women, on the basis of their sex. Sexism is still present in today’s society, especially against women. There are many ways as to how people are sexist towards women. The three places that sexism against women is a big issue: the media, pop culture and the sports industry. Some people do not allow women the same opportunities that men have just because they are women. By creating sexism in these places, people are treating women unfairly and with disrespect. The stereotypes that are created by women paints a certain image of women that people believe to be true. The media is especially known for creating unrealistic images of women.
Hillary Clinton was never, publicly speaking, a regular person. She was the first First Lady to earn a postgraduate degree, from Yale Law School no less. She often shocked the American public with her dedication to policy, especially surrounding humanitarian efforts, education, and healthcare reform (Marshall 1). Clinton was often criticized for overstepping her First Wife boundaries, constantly being referred to as “non-traditional” during
According to Ann Coulter (2002), Clinton’s entire presidency was just a game to him and he made a mockery of the American people (p. 28). Margaret O’Brien Steinfels (1999) believed that Clinton was a horrible excuse for a political leader and an even worse moral leader due to his mistrust (para. 6). Many Americans shared these feelings and were left feeling betrayed after they supported President Clinton. It certainly affected the way they would choose their presidents from there on. Daniel Cohen (2000) concluded that the Clinton Presidency would permanently change the way Americans viewed their political leaders as well (p. 10). Clinton not only discredited his position as president by having a sex scandal blow up but he might have fooled Americans with his deceitful, self-serving actions. These actions certainly constituted an impeachment and left doubts with the people he
While it is too early to accurately judge the presidency of Bill Clinton, most would agree that he was successful in office. He was the first democrat to successfully be reelected since Franklin Roosevelt. Yet, when a sufficient amount of time has passed and historians attempt to categorize and analyze Bill Clinton’s presidency, his legacy will ultimately be tied to scandal. The numerous scandals that Clinton faced – and survived –were an important aspect of the Clinton presidency. On one hand, they showed the well-documented weakness of Clinton’s personal character – his infidelities, his evasiveness, and his lack of integrity. Yet, Clinton’s ability to survive these scandals are a true testament how politically cunning and brilliant the man was.
Bill Clinton is a polarizing figure who endlessly campaigned for higher office for most of his life. “The Comeback Kid,” who was constantly investigated upon, became skilled at defending himself. He commits perjury during his presidency when refuting the Lewinsky affair. Clinton’s reaction to the allegations in his infamous denial and later apology showcase his perceptively chosen diction and survivalist attitude in terms of his governmental career. After all the diatribes against him and cataclysmic career falls, he is still a noteworthy figure in campaigns and events today. Yet, the amount of resignations of political figure due to sex scandals after this one is also significant. Although he implored the American people to respect that even
Serving as First Lady for eight years from 1993 to 2001, senator for eight years from 2001 to 2009, and Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013, Hillary Clinton obtained experience at multiple positions making her a valuable candidate for the democratic primary (Hillary Clinton Biography). Even though Clinton has more experience than many other candidates, her past scandals and failures block out the hope for a better future. Hillary Clinton, in each of the three areas she served, accomplished few nominal tasks. Currently, people vote for the party they rigidly support instead of the candidate they think will represent the United States beset. As a result, people only see Hillary Clinton as a candidate that will break history’s pattern of sexism
The 2016 United States presidential election was both a historic and unprecedented election in the country’s history. This past election saw our first female presidential candidate nominated by a major political party and almost the first female president, Hillary Rodham Clinton. This is a momentous feature, coming nearly 100 years after the Nineteenth Amendment granted women the right to vote in the United States in 1920. As can be illustrated from these two points in history, women’s rights have come a long way, however, there is a great deal of progress that still needs to be made. Misogyny and sexism are still prevalent today, especially in the realm of politics. As a result, Clinton was met with many acts of the sort in this past election
Clinton was known through her election process as being very liberal and having these very non-traditional ideas of what she would try to accomplish within the nation. Through this type of campaign the person running for office will do so in trying to localize the vote, i.e. targeting a specific group of people. Clinton did this very well in her recent run for presidency, she did so by targeting the minority group of women. We as the voting population see how Clinton's choice in doing so was fueled by her home life and childhood. Hillary Clinton was born to teen parents who did not love her and did not want her, in this case we see how such an issue in her childhood could provoke her desire for legalization of abortions for women. Along with that scenario her marriage to a cheating husband can be seen as evidence as to how Hillary’s election would be pushed towards rights of the female population. In some cases this helped her campaign, but in more than one case it could be seen as the reason she lost the
Oh Women, how times have changed! The idea of what a woman is supposed to be has changed. From the stay at home mom to the teacher in the classroom. Many years have passed since women have broken out of the idealism of what society has told them to be.
At the same time, Hillary was the First Lady of Arkansas, then First Lady of the United States, and became the United States Senator of New York before her campaign for presidential candidacy in 2008. Perhaps the hardest striking fact against Hillary’s campaign comes from Bill Clinton’s 1998 Lewinsky scandal during his presidency. Even years after Bill’s time in the White house, Hillary is in recent news for casting Miss Lewinsky as the scapegoat to save Bill presidency (Sanchez par. 10). In Sheehy’s article “Hillary’s Hamlet Moment”, she emphasizes Hillary as a strong advocate for women’s rights (par. 26-30). But even as a feminist, why was it that the woman was victimized and why did Hillary not stand up to her husband? With such a long history of both Hillary and Bill’s involvement in the government, perhaps if a new candidate ran for president, America would be more inclined to vote for a fresh face, thus leading to her potential defeat in the next
Hillary Clinton's eligibility for president being judged by a gender based double standard because of her degree of transparency. Many citizens may not trust their government today, but at least they can verify certain pieces of information, thanks to laws that require open meetings and legislators to disclose their economic interests. Nonetheless, both contenders have been
The name William Jefferson “Bill” Clinton either creates a negative image or a positive image in the minds of most Americans. Bill Clinton was the 42nd President of the United States of America and served two consecutive terms. He is one of the most popular presidents in history – right up there with Kennedy and even Abraham Lincoln. Nevertheless, there are a group of Americans that remember President Clinton in a negative light. These Americans could be described as the “moral majority” or the “Christian right.” These Americans remember the disgrace and shame that the office of the presidency suffered throughout the sex scandal and impeachment of President Clinton. Did the sex scandal and eventual impeachment of President Clinton have a
This article will argue that Hillary Clinton's most recent scandals like her email server situation, Benghazi attacks she oversaw, and foreign donations her charity the Clinton foundation, received aren’t as big of a deal as they've been made out be by comparing them to similar actions by other politicians in similar positions of power that had similar results.
Clinton’s loss in 2016 presidential elections considered as a second greatest political upset of all time after Harry Truman’s victory in 1948. Mrs. Clinton was a seasoned politician with the backing of a sitting government, huge financial resources, and a huge following. Her opponent, Mr. Trump, on the other hand, was an inexperienced outsider, with neither a military nor a political background. During the campaign period, Mr. Trump made numerous gaffes and managed to insult about every ethnic group in America. He faced accusations of sexual assault from twelve women and at some point, there was even a video of him speaking and bragging of sexually harassing women. On paper, Mr. Trump was the easiest opponent to beat, and yet, to the surprise of many political pundits, he defeated Mrs. Clinton. Democrats and political pundits have looked for reasons as to why Mrs. Clinton lost and it really comes down to a series of strategic mistakes by her campaign team and Mrs. Clinton’s message or lack of it, and trust. Mrs. Clinton’s team failed to come up with strategies that would have led to a huge turnout of the Democratic Party's support base. Secondly, Mrs. Clinton did not have a clear message as to why she was running for president for the presidency. Even when she managed to come up with a campaign slogan to explain her reasons for running, she still had to fight trust issues brought by FBI investigations and questions business connections in her charity
Hillary Clinton a straight, cisgender female, who is able bodied, and came from an affluent family. Hillary was oppressed in the way that all females who seek out leadership roles in politics are oppressed, rather than the media focusing on the facts in which that she stands behind and supports, they focus on how she looks, what she is wearing, and her social life. Which if any of her male counterparts were covered in the same way then there would be utter chaos. After the massive scandal of her husband President Bill Clinton having sexual intercourse with Monica Lewinsky, there was a massive spotlight on the Clinton family, and even though all the
