Hitler's Hidden Drug Habit (Morell)

From 1939 to 1945, Hitler took drugs to cope with daily life. Now, Morell was the person who first introduced the drugs to Hitler- though it doesn’t excuse Hitler from his later actions. This was to help with Hitler’s health problems and the amount of stress he was under. Firstly, Morell was the main person of giving Hitler drugs. In the documentary, “Hitler’s Hidden Drug Habit”, it explains how Morell became Hitler’s physician. When Morell joined the Nazi Party, he heard gossip from the Nazi elite. It was from them that Morell learned that Hitler was suffering from stomach cramps. This was due to Hitler being a particular kind of vegetarian. He loved beans, though they’re not great for the stomach, and he’d have them mashed up because his teeth were in bad shape. After World War II, the US military intelligence interviewed some of Hitler’s entourage, they said that Morell was a quack (“Hitler’s Hidden” 9:50). Those same people also said that Morell shouldn’t have practicing medicine anywhere outside a veterinary clinic. Since Morell was appointed to be Hitler’s personal physician, after curing Hitler of his cramps, that did annoy Hitler’s inner circle (Bletchly and Killelea). They did have a good cause to be annoyed because it was later found that Morell’s drug cabinet had a gun-cleaning oil which was banned from human consumption as well as flatulence pills that were made from strychnine or rat poison. However, Morell wasn’t a quack and that he was a qualified physician (Evans). He had a degree in medicine from when he studied in Grenoble and Paris (“Theodor Morell”).
