Family and in Home Childcare
Select and identify TWO concepts presented in the video you find significant as an early educator and explain why you selected these concepts (7 descriptive/detailed sentences)
I found the Family and Home Childcare video particularly interesting as I am more interested in working from my home than at a public or private preschool. After an initial phone interview to determine what sort of childcare is best for the family, the video went on to provide tips for how to decide which home childcare facility is a good fit for the family. They explained that parents taking the tour should Look, Listen and Count in order to gain a complete understanding of the establishment.
For instance, when observing the establishment be sure to look around and check that the home is cozy, clean and comfortable. Then look outside and decide if the outdoor play area is safe and that the equipment is undamaged and inviting to the children. I choose this concept because the child’s environment directly affects not only their safety and well-being, but their development as well.

Specifically, they need to listen to the other children and determine if it sounds like a happy place to play in. The parents ought to verify if the teachers are cheerful and engaging with the children. Next, they should see if the environment is too noisy or too quiet as this might indicate a lack of control over the children or it might mean there is not a sufficient amount of activities planned for them. I chose this concept because it is important for the atmosphere of a child care center to be positive and to provide a sense of security for the
Babies and children will feel emotionally safe and secure and will develop and learn most effectively. A truly enabling environment provides the stimulation and the positive relationships that support children to feel safe enough to explore. A good environment meets the child's basic needs and supports and encourages children to engage in activities that implement the program's curriculum. The environment is also designed to enable staff to facilitate the learning process for their children making parents feel welcome and
Along with knowing the purpose of quality daycare/child care facilities, the next important factor is to be aware of what generates a high quality daycare/child care facility. It is vital to know the characteristics because these prime objectives are the driving forces influenced by what children need in order to succeed and grow in their developmental skills. Fundamentally, “High quality [preschool] education can support early development in ways that yield long term social, cognitive and emotional benefits” (Barnett 2005, p1). The most essential aspect of a high quality facility are the trained, certified and attentive teachers hired to support children’s developmental needs. They ensure this by respectful interaction,
Hi everyone, I am observing on Wednesdays from 8-10 and Fridays 3-4 in Cuesta Children’s Center Preschool 2. I believe a child’s environment can affect their mood, social skills, ability to learn, mental health, and physical health. These essential elements need to be meet or it will affect their adult lives. I feel the Cuesta Center does a remarkable job of offering all of these, and has wonderful transitions throughout the day. I enjoy observing the teachers modeling acceptable class room behaviors, asking open-ended questions while using descriptive language to help to expand children’s speech, and they were engaged in the children’s presents. I was engrossed with how the class offers multiple opportunities for children to broaden their
Also in a childcare environment you should have an adult present at all times and asking children if they are ok and interacting with them not just as a group but individually too.
When you entrust us with your precious child, we'll treat you and your child with courtesy and respect. In addition to providing a positive and nurturing environment for your child, we'll work with you to create the best childcare experience possible for you and
It is an eye opening to see how every single child thinks different. There are many thoughts that makes every single person unique. This video made me think on how important is to get to know your students and also their family background. It is very important to have a little conversation with their family members and also with the students in general.
In order for children to receive high-quality early child care and education depends on the teachers and the environment. The environment needs to be developmentally appropriate for children. It should have interest areas for the children so they can develop their physical, social-emotion, language, and cognitive development. Children that are in a high-quality care help parents stay in their employment. Children that get high-quality care stable child care engage more complex play, demonstrate more sure attachment to adults and other children, and they score higher on measure of thinking abilities and language development. The
Find The Right Environment: A learning center is available in all shapes and sizes. Some provide basic childcare, while others offer a preschool program. Make sure the childcare center you choose fits your child's needs: while one might be filled with active kids, another could be a small environment with nurturing care. Evaluate the enrichment programs and decide what your child needs: art enrichment? Math? Potty training
After watching the video on public education and comparing it to the way education was being presented back then and how it’s being presented now I can pretty much say nothing has really changed in the way education has become available and encouraged to anyone regardless of their social class. From personal experience I have to admit that social class does play a major role on education. Although education is an institution that has become available to anyone regardless of the background I have to acknowledge that not everyone (lower and middle class) has the same opportunity, methods, tools, and means (economically), etc. to be able to have the a similar future then the people that are considered to be a higher class. From my point of view
Preschoolers fully know what phones are and how to communicate with them; as seen in the video, the little girl had the toy phone on her ear saying "hello". Toddlers did not fully know what phones are, they just know it goes on your ear but do not know how to communicate with them as seen in the toddler video. Teachers is helping children understand how some things work and how to propler use them which is a good teaching skill. And lastly, one important thing I saw is stretching. Preschoolers are using their fine motor skills when stretching. They are getting to know their body better and while stretching, they are also observing the teacher on how she is doing it. Overrall both videos shoe excellent development in social, physical, and
I am a provider can tell that when a provider has a concern about a child’s behavior, it is important to consider what may be influencing the behavior. In this video, early childhood teachers, home child care providers, and experts discuss some of the possible influences of children’s behavior and how to respond objectively.
In the primary video, to be responsive to family concerns and their priorities (Dunst, 2002), Sonia introduces a 3-2-1 sheet, asking the parents to tell her three things she should know about their child, two things their child is interested in, their one wish for their child. This activity encourages the parents to communicate with her about their child. I am especially drawn to this simple, yet useful activity, as it opens up opportunities to engage with the parents, and learn what matters to them and their child. Again, such activity is based on relationship and trust, because parents are communicating private information about their children. This is also a good example of family-professional collaboration to achieve

I learned many ways that the center provided child care for the children that attend their center. The daycare center is very clean and has a comfortable environment. The way they treat you, makes it a really comfortable environment. They have a cafeteria style room for the kids to go eat. The age groups take turns, that way bigger kids don’t hurt others. The teachers are very caring and responsible for each and every child there. They treat the children like they are their very own. When it comes to safety and health, everyone there has to be CPR and first aid certified. Things such as medicine, cleaning products, sharp instruments, and hazardous materials are stored safely. They are kept away from the children at all times. The activities they do change daily, it depends on what is on the lesson plan for the day. Now with these activities, the children are allowed to play both quietly indoors and outdoors. Indoors and outdoors have enough space for the children to move freely. Some examples of activities that the do are thing such as crafts based on what the teacher puts in her lesson plans, and there are centers that they can go to, such as housekeeping and blocks. Now when it comes to the behavior and discipline at kinderplay, the set reasonable and consistent limits when
A research by Ramsay and Holyoke examined the various factors that motivate child care providers to learn. The objective of this study was to amplify the knowledge of adult learning motivation. Focus group interviews were operated in four Western United States : California, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Participants viewed two video vignettes on feeding young children. After watching each video vignette, participants were asked to complete two projective technique response activities (Ramsay, Holyoke, Branen, & Fletcher, 2012). The first research question asked was “What are child care providers’ responses to videos on feeding young children?” A follow up question was asked - “How do those responses influence their motivation to learn about feeding young children?” These projective technique activities used stimuli to help reveal individuals’ true responses regarding their thoughts, feelings, and emotions (Bystedt, Lynn, & Potts 2003; Christensen & Olson, 2002; Krueger & Casey, 2009). The discussions were then audio recorded, transcribed, and analysed to determine the factors that motivate participants to learn. The presence of hedonistic emotions was identified as the primary theme that impacted their motivation to learn. The study also demonstrated that, child care providers
