I was elected as the representative of my homeroom twice, in 2014 and 2015. I undertook this activity as I was interested in testing my skills to coordinate different events involving the homeroom throughout the school year and gain experience in communicating effectively with others to learn how to compromise in different situations. From this, I developed an ability to coordinate different people and events, compromise with teachers and students, time management and effective communication. I also developed a broadened awareness of the people around me, and empathise with them. In helping them through their personal struggles, I strengthened my problem solving skills and my relationships with others. This is valuable because any profession
A reflective essay is essentially an essay designed to emulate past experiences or occurrences in writing form. Most reflective essays are to show the reader changes and evolutions of yourself or certain aspects about yourself, so there is a constant change of tenses during the essay between past and present. During this essay I will be describing the most important parts of writing a reflective essay and all the key elements that should be included.

I have always prided myself on my thoughts and ideas; it is my ability to convey those thoughts through writing, with which I struggle. In highschool I managed to get by fairly well in my English class. We were primarily graded on reading comprehension, and so my poor writing skills had little opportunity to negatively impact my grade. I did not find this to be so in Writing 100, however. It quickly came to my attention that I would need to improve my writing if I wished to do well. I realized that in order to improve my writing, I would need to fix one of my worst qualities as a writer: my tendency to begin writing without properly understanding the prompt. This past semester in Writing 100 I have made an effort to fix this, and it has led me to become more intentional of the purpose of my essays, which, in my opinion, has helped highlight an intellectual depth that my work was incapable of displaying before.
Ever since I got into composition one, I was always that person that didn’t know how to set a proper process of the essay. I have tried going different varieties method how to set multiple essay in high school but my teacher never bothered to help me. There was sometimes that I did not like writing essay because I knew I was going to fail anyways. I struggled when it comes to writing essay but that didn’t stop me from succeeding. I was a little bit concerned so I had no choice but to give it all in for my best. I wanted to show my professor that I could be able to write one of the best essay I ever wrote in class. It was an eight week courses and it was tough for me to keep up with the essays. I believe that I have learned a lot in this course especially doing the MLA format.
Overall, I’ve had a rather decent experience with writing; in high school, it was never something I found myself looking forward to, but even despite my general distaste for essay-writing, I always managed to get through it with at least a decent grade. I’ve always considered myself skilled in the usage of grammar and generally capable in the art of sentence structure; however, I can’t toot my own horn for much else. Even with acceptable grammar skills, I tend to have a difficult time coming up with what to write. I struggle to get inspired and even when I do discover the occasional bout, it only tends to last about fifty words before I, yet again, hit another unsurpassable wall, followed then by me getting distracted. Because of my generally
Writing is a very important part of everyday life whether it be at your job or taking college courses. Haven taken this class, I have learned where my writing is “slacking.” I have definitely learned what I should work on the improve my writing to help. Small grammatical errors are definitely one thing I struggle with and learned to improve. Research papers have always been a challenge for me. I have never done well with them but this class has helped so much with better understanding how they’re done. I also learned some new things that I have never heard of before in the writing world. I have taken so much from this class that I can use to greater my writing in future situations. Studying Law is definitely a major that will require further
If there is anything that this class has taught me, it is that writing is more complex than I ever imagined. I have concluded that writing is like a cake- the good ones are creative with many layers. Coming from a small public school, I was raised on the five paragraph essay style. If you were to get a pile of my senior classes final research papers, it would be hard to tell them apart. We all wrote the same, and our style hardly changed from second grade on. Metaphorically speaking, we all created the same plain vanilla cake.
The core belief that defines me is hard work. That wasn’t always the case. I spent the majority of middle school dawdling around ignoring due dates and refusing to study for tests, which culminated in almost straight C’s my 8th grade year. The reality of my attitude was that I simply wanted to put in minimal effort every day and go home and sit around in front of a television. That would only come to a change my sophomore year, thanks to a teacher.
anything we taught because I was either ahead or behind in what the new school was teaching. It has failed me, but has also told me I must push myself to do better so I can one day go back and help those who failed with me.
“Finish the review sheet, and at the end of class come pick up the answer key. And yes you may work with partners.” Mr. Ruiz told us, before dismissing us to work on the review sheet. Everyone in the room moved their seats and once they were happy, they started talking to each other, typical. I shook my head before turning to work with Holly, a friend of mine. The whole class knew to come to us if they had questions. History was my best class this year. Holly had nineties in every class and was on the school’s varsity academic team.
Since beginning to write papers in English class, I have had countless successes and failures. While many of my English classes have taught me how to improve my writing, I have not learned very much in others. My most recent English class was last year, my sophomore year. My class was particularly undersized; therefore, it gave each student the opportunity to have additional individual attention. Throughout the class I experienced high points, weaknesses, and even difficulties that I never overcame. Overall, my writing skills improved, but only marginally.
