The country of America was founded on the idea that every person should be treated equal and have the opportunity to live a happy, successful life. Therefore, it is important that Americans educate themselves on the proper terms to use when discussing the LGBTQ community. No one should feel threatened or offended because of improper vocabulary, and I feel that our country would be a better place if more people took the time to educate themselves on how to treat every American with respect, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Homosexuality: Homosexuality is sexual exchanges between members of the same sex which maybe voluntary or involuntary. Many men and women are lured into traps that are set by more experienced inmates.

LGBTQ+ representation and rights have recently become a large epidemic in America, and some parts of Europe. Since the new millennium, the world has become more and more accepting. In 2005 gay marriage became legal in Canada, In 2008 the United States elected their first black president, in 2015 gay marriage became legal in the U.S, and so much more happened within the past 17 years of this new millennium. Homosexuality is defined as sexual attraction to one of the same sex. It has been considered despicable, and discerned for many years to have the same sex sexual preference. How could a person go against God and society many question? But what if I told you that who they were attracted, loved, and consequently wish to marry is not merely a decision as the one you make when you decide to wake up or stay in the bed in the morning, but instead a genetically encoded within these individuals. It’s not only homosexuals, also who heterosexuals love as well are already encoded within. What if I told you that the Lady Gaga lyrics could possibly be the anthem of all homosexuals’ lives and stories, “I was born this way!” Then what would you say?

Throughout history, there have been many cases of injustice and discrimination both around the world and in the United States specifically. There has been oppression of and discrimination against differing ethnic groups, women, and now, individuals with a different sexual orientation than what can be seen as normal. While the rights of these groups have improved significantly, discrimination still occurs. However, discrimination against them is still less rampant than the discrimination against people who identify as homosexuals and other similar sexual orientations. Since we, as a society, have made extensive leaps and bounds regarding similar social issues, we can and must make similar strides regarding societal views of sexual orientation.

But in the event that you don’t, Homosexuality is when a person is sexually, emotionally or romantically attracted to the same sex. So, for an example, a man being sexually involved with another man. In our society today being gay, is okay, but it wasn’t originally. Homosexuality originally began as a sin and was seen as conflicting to the natural law. It was morally unacceptable for a man to love another man and vice versa for women. This was due to religious beliefs, mainly denominations of Christianity. If you were gay not only were judged, ridiculed and called a demon but you were also going straight to hell. This is because of the Old Testament in the Bible;

The issue of sexuality and human sexual orientation is an increasingly hot topic in the American society today. Although this topic has made an upward spiral in society today, there seems to be little talk about the history of sexuality. The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer community has been oppressed throughout history, making it difficult for them to feel safe in the public sphere where heterosexuality is the norm. However, pieces by George Chauncey and Ruth Hubbard have discussed ways in which the LGBTQ world was forgotten about in early society, and how it has evolved to be where it is now.

In other words, it is the loving or sexual relationship of two people having the same gender. Homosexuality, similar to heterosexuality and bisexuality, it is the sexual direction which “ refers to an enduring pattern of emotional, romantic, and/or sexual attractions to men, women, or both sexes” and “ refers to a person’s sense of identity based on those attractions, related behaviors, and membership in a community of others who share those attractions” ( Sexual orientation and homosexuality 2013).

Homosexuals refers to people whose sexual interest is in the same-sex rather than the opposite-sex. The term gay is generally used to indicate male homosexuals while sometimes it is used to represent for both female and female homosexuals; the term lesbian just refers to female homosexuals (“Homosexuality”, 2016).

Homosexuality is when an individual is sexually attracted to a person of the same sex. Although the majority of West has gradually come to accept this practice, it is widely criticized and condemned by the mainstream of today’s Muslims, even those living in the West. Although Muslim scholars have had strict viewpoints in regards to sexual diversity throughout the history of the faith, global modern ethics are challenging them to step up.
