Rome influenced many things that we use in our daily things today. From art, law and justice, and several prefixes in words in the English language. Rome was an amazing empire that lasted for years, even when it started to crumble and fall apart. The influence it had on us today impacts the quote “All Roads Lead To Rome”. The quote, to me, means that Rome had thousands of miles of roads, and if you stumbled upon one, and followed it, it would lead straight to Rome. Rome influenced many things today, one of them being art. After different kinds of Roman art were rediscovered after years, they still impact many of the modern art we see today. The Romans made realistic statues and frescoes. Along with decorative murals and mosaics, you can still find many forms of art influenced by the Romans. “The Sistine Chapel painted by Michelangelo in the 1500s, the ceiling shows scenes from the Bible. A Roman would feel right at home looking up at …show more content…
Different examples of modern languages like Italian, Spanish, and French have been heavily influenced by the unique Roman language. Many prefixes for words come from the language of Romans, along with the names of most, if not all, the months. September, The Seventh month. (etc) We also use the Roman numerals, not all the time though, but often enough to “praise” the Romans for it. (I,V,X,L,C,D,M and many more!) It’s hard to imagine life without the amazing creations that influenced us from the Romans.
As you can see, even though Rome finally collapsed and fell into ruins thousands of years ago, the great civilization still left its mark on modern day things we do everyday. From modern day art being influenced on Rome, to the idea of Law And Justice. Had Rome not existed thousands of years ago, we may not have the wonderful ideas and inventions we have in modern day today. Even though it is not here right now, you can look around and see all the things that Rome had “given” to
Rome was once a great beautiful kingdom. Ruled by many emperors and has taken bold and great actions. But following up with those actions lead to big problems. This made Rome get weaker and weaker, causing Rome to have a great downfall ending their history. But Rome’s great accomplishments and failures are still looked upon
The Romans brought lots of things that we take for granted every day. For example calendars, the census, indoor plumbing, fruit and vegetables, the police and even cats!
To start off, one invention from ancient Rome that still has an effect on the modern world is our Transportation system. Transportation is used a lot it is still used to today for importing and exporting. (doc. 3) Some of us would not even be able to get to school without transportation like roads or subways. I am going to New York. I cannot go if I don’t have transportation like a plane or car. If you did not have transportation you would have to work at home and life would not work properly. As you can see, the transportation system from ancient Rome is still needed in our world today.
As they continued to expand over hundreds of years their government grew. The Romans army was a great army that was mostly made up of citizen-soldiers they posted these soldiers all around there empire to protect and maintain their state. Over the 500 years that Rome was a republic this type of government helped them maintain their state and allow the citizens, except women to have a voice in who was going to rule their land. The Plebeians the lower class of Rome and which made up most of Rome had little influence on the Senate's decisions. But they had Tribunes to speak for them and could block or veto the Senate's decisions. During these five hundred years Rome had a system like no other of roads that provided efficient means for the overland movement of armies, officials and civilians, and the trade goods. These roads provided a direct route for many goods, and it was a big reason why the Romans empire would succeed for over 500

The Legacy of Rome is great. It was a powerful empire, one of the most powerful in history, its language inspired the languages of today, and the architecture of Rome is still emulated in the buildings of the modern world. Rome’s language was Latin. Latin was so widely used by everyone in Rome’s vast empire that it inspired many modern languages. Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, English, and many other languages were based off of or were similar to Latin. In fact, Latin had such an impact on the languages of the world that people still learn it today, 200 years later. Rome also left behind its governmental structure. Rome had twelve tables of written laws for all Romans to obey. While the modern day United States do not have twelve tables, we do have the constitution, which sets the laws of America which we must all follow. Rome had three branches of government, the Executive Branch, Legislative Branch, and Judicial Branch. Rome had two consuls, representing its Executive Branch. America has a President and Vice President. Rome had a senate to make laws; America has the Legislative House and Senate as well. Romans built roads, Americans have built and are still building roads to expand our infrastructure. The buildings in Rome were big, and were made out of marble to add to their already
Rome has contributed a lot to the Mediterranean and more off the U.S and rest of the world. Rome started Democracy, a government in which the people elect a leader and people to represent them. The US has many things inspired by and very similar to Rome including, in Rome if a law seemed unfair than it could be set aside, in the US something can be ruled unconstitutional. The women's rights inspired by Rome sparked women's rights in the US.
English is the main language of the Western world. Many English words originated from the Roman language of Latin. Simple English words such as ?architecture?, ?balm?, ?determine? and ?say? have been derived from Latin. Just flip through a dictionary and an endless amount of words have come from Latin. If the Ancient Romans didn?t have and create the language of Latin, we would probably lose half our vocabulary, because of the great role it has played in making the language of English. The
Rome was a great civilization that lasted for years. The civilization was so successful and strong that it had power over most, if not all of it’s surrounding lands. They had powerful soldiers and great armies that successfully fought to protect Rome, and also to invade new lands to conquer for Rome. They adopted many types of belief and cultures from the new lands they conquered. Rome seemed to be unstoppable at this point, but however, there had to be a time where Rome would fall. The fall of Rome was not just some random occurrence, but instead Rome fell due to various problems. Rome declined and eventually fell because it suffered from Political, Economic, and Social problems that it could not fix.
Rome had a lasting impact on the world even though it rotted away from within. Rome is a society that lasted for 1500 years and left a life-changing impression on the world. Many things were developed in Rome during in founding tell the end such as the modern Western calendar, law and politics, Roads and highways, and also welfare. Rome demise/fall was attributed to many causes and effects. Through this argument we can see the mistakes and successes of Rome and learn from them.
The Roman civilization once stood as the best civilization on Earth, about 2000 years ago. Rome conquered so much land, won so many wars, and stood for hundreds of years. They were sophisticated and help make so many things, we still use today. Forms of government, architecture, and religion were all major things thousands of years ago, to today. Rome played a big part in what we do today, and the world would be much more different (in a bad way) if it wasn’t for Rome. In this slideshow, we will show you the legacies of what Rome left behind.
Rome has had many great contributions to today's society. I believe the biggest invention Rome created with was within their architecture. They created many beautiful things including archways, columns, buildings, and bridges. Their construction technique was exquisite. They created a big portion of their beautiful creations by using concrete. They created concrete from scratch using volcanic ash. I find it very interesting that they figured out how to make something as strong as concrete by themselves. It is a true example of how amazing the human mind can be, and how crucial Rome's contributions have been to our success today.
Columns, as noted, were a prominent feature of Roman architecture, which was drawn from the Greeks. Although Rome did not copy Greek columns exactly, “Greek influence is evident in the use of columns,”18 nevertheless, which is to be expected since Romans greatly admired Greek columns.19 Rome also adopted the Greek's mortar and ashlars.20 Additionally, since Greeks believed “that beauty lies in mathematical harmony,” Greek influence is seen in Imperial temples which contained set, mathematical ratios of design. As noted, when Rome began producing sculpture, they began producing Hellenistic-influenced idealistic sculptures.21 The reversion to older Greek forms is not a surprise if one considers Rome's admiration for Greek sculpture. Such admiration of Greek sculpture is evidenced by Rome's copying of Greek sculptures, such as the Venus di Milo.22
One of the things we learned about when studying Rome is that “All Roads Lead to Rome.” This quote has multiple meanings to it depending on who’s reading it. When I look at this quote I think of all the long roads in Rome that were miles and miles long. This quote can also be talking about how busy all the roads were because all of them lead to the capitol. Some other things that the quote could be talking about are the , architecture, government, religion, culture, and economy in Rome that gave us ideas for some of the things we have today.
Rome was said to be founded by two brothers whose names were Romulus and Remus. Legend says they were raised by a wolf and ran off to a city they both wanted to rule but they killed each other over their lust for power. Romulus killed Remus and named the city Rome after his victory. Romulus’s story influenced many Romans but, what really happened was Romans were under Etruscan rule for many years as slaves until the Romans rebelled and overthrew their masters. Romans were discouraged by Greece thinking Rome would be easily swept away. Rome was attacked by many barbaric tribes including fighting a war with the Etruscans but triumphed again and again. Rome started with nothing and worked its way to the top, as nothing could break the Roman spirit, and their drive to dominate. After a tedious start, the Romans became the largest and most prosperous Empire the world has ever seen. The Roman Empire was an important building block to how we live today such as are architecture, concrete, government and war tactics, and if it had not been for great generals of Rome, it may have fallen before it ever had the chance to rise.
