1.Explain the reasons the British wanted to limit westward expansion after the French and Indian War. Your answer should include three reasons along with your explanations of why the British did this and why the colonist felt it was wrong. 10 points The British gained control of a vast territory in North America. However, they faced the challenge of protecting their interests in the colonies and new territory. Limiting western settlement provided several advantages for Britain. It allowed the British government to control westward movement and to avoid conflict with Native Americans and the colonists felt it was wrong because they can't go west and it is controlled by the British government. Also, keeping colonist near the East Coast ensured a market for British goods in the coastal cities where trade flourished. Finally, closing western settlement allowed Britain to control the fur trade in frontier. Britain planned to station 10,000 troops in the …show more content…
Compare and Contrast a Loyalist and a Patriot. You should include a couple of points in each area. Then tell me which one you would be and why. 10 points Those who chose to stay with Britain, the Loyalists, did not consider unfair taxes and regulations good reasons for rebellion. Some loyalists lived in relative isolation and had not been part of the wave of discontent that turned many Americans against Britain. Others expected to win the war and wanted to regain favor with the Britain. The Patriots, on the other hand, were colonists who supported the war for independence. They believed that British rule had become unbearable. The Patriots were determined to fight the British until American independence won. Both were colonists control by British, want to regain there favor from British, and were considered unfair taxes. I would be a Patriot because I want to fight the British to regain our independence from Britain. So that we don't have to face rule that are unbearable and pay unfair
I am a Patriot because they were more independent, they broke away for their freedom and independence. They helped the colonist that fought for their freedom from the british. People in America felt they weren't being treated fairly. They were being taxed without representation in the british government. That is why most people actually became
The problem with the Plan was that the leadership community of the American colonies was more conservative and it was a small government, as well as the fact that the British were not ready to give up such control during a time of war to their own colonists. The British began to tighten their grip on the American colonists with the Proclamation of 1763 and the increase in troops that were present in the colonies. The Proclamation of 1763 dealt with the “Indian” problem, essentially ignoring the native people and restricting colonial ventures to all territory east of the Appalachian Mountains.
Economic motivations to expand westward included opportunities in trade, mining for gold and farmlands with rich soil. In 1848 gold was discovered, this led to the gold rush of 1849. Settlers forced American Indians off of their land with the help of the government. After defeating the Indians more
American colonists should support the Declaration of Independence and the Patriots in the Revolutionary War. Great Britain was taxing the American colonists because of Britain’s great debt from the French and Indian War. Britain made the quartering act, the stamp act, townshend act, and the tea act. This is taxation without representation and it was unjust. The Patriots were angry and rightfully so. The King was making the colonists pay taxes on imported goods to decrease his country’s debt, the Patriots were outraged and wanted freedom.
In the Northwest, British forts and troops remained because they accused the Americans of violating the treaty of repaying debts to merchants and returning land to Loyalists. The Confederation recommended the states to repay and give back the land, for they can't force the states to obey. The British's real reason for staying in the Northwest was that they expected the Articles of Confederation to collapse; therefore, they would be ready to take over. Indian attacks were also blamed at the British. The British persuaded Indians to raid frontier settlements. Even though the recent evidence showed this was not true, it continued to be true since accusations are based on what people thought.
The war seemed to separate the colonists into three separate groups. Ones that were loyal to Britain, which were called “loyalists”. Most loyalists had “business ties” with Britain and saw being on Britain’s side of the war as being “defenders”. While other loyalists despised those that rebelled and assumed their reason to rebel was to obtain more money from the empire. The second group was with George Washington called the “Patriots”, who were fighting for the freedom from Britain, and the third group were people that were trying to go about their lives and not get involved in the war. Though slaves were asked to participate in the war, most went to Britain’s side in exchange for freedom. In 1775, Washington and his army win the battle at Saratoga and this ultimately wins over France as an
Westward expansion was a time of successes and failures, a time celebrations and grief, a time full of life and death but in the end it shaped how America is the way is today. Westward expansion was put in action because of the belief of Manifest Destiny, the belief that it is America fate to expand from the Atlantic to Pacific ocean. The economical, political and humanitarians impacts were necessary to achieve the goal of manifest Destiny and Westward Expansion.
The American Revolution was the revolution of the American colonies against Britain, it’s mother country. The Continental Congress, a group of delegates from each colony, voted in favor of the Revolution on July 1st, 1776. They were tired of Britain taxing them and not treating them as proper citizens of Britain, and decided to break away from Britain and emerge as an independent country. There are few reasons that colonists would choose the Patriot side or choose the Loyalist side during the Revolutionary War. 2 reasons for colonists to support Britain is that Britain had the upper hand militarily and financially, and the Patriots were acting barbaric towards a loyalist just because he supported King George.
Especially since Britain made the Proclamation of 1763. This affected all the colonies and the colonist were not happy about it. Expansion was what many of the colonists wanted to do for a couple reasons; one they were growing in population and second there was more land meaning more possible resources. The reason they did not want the colonist to move west was for the benefit of the British. If they were to move west and leave the coasts, it would be difficult to collect their taxes and trade with them. They were afraid if they move west, then they would lose control because of how much farther they
Loyalists were people who remained loyal to the king of England. This means that when the patriots wanted independence, loyalists didn’t. At that time loyalists were also called tories, royalists or king’s men. Loyalists had peaceful forms of protest because they believed that violence would create trouble. Also, King George lll would tax the colonies a lot, but the loyalists didn’t mind because they thought it was for a good cause.
With the British in control, they began taking the reigns of expansion in the westward territories. A major disagreement was when they decided to pass the Proclamation of 1763, where the colonists were restricted from settling beyond the Appalachian Mountains. Any colonists within these
After having years of benign British neglect, and after capably governing themselves, the people in the American colonies were not pleased when the British Parliament decided after the end of the successful end of the French Indian War in 1763 to become more engaged in the American colonists’ affairs. The British government wanted to protect the American colonies from future Indian and other attacks.
I would first address the problems that patriots have in there point of view. One of those problems is over taxation of citizens in colonies and plantations. King George III created laws and policies that took away colonist god given rights. For instance the British Government only allowed the colonist to sell goods to buyers in the United Kingdom, by this time England had most control of the Atlantic and if you were caught trading with Spain or France your ship will be searched and you will be fined. These such acts angered colonist to create Groups such as the "Sons of Liberty" and to start the American Revolution. England's King George III is greedy and wants america's money. Staying will Britain will mean certain death, they can't even
1. Jefferson's views on westward expansion is simply to establish trading houses in Indian territory and pursue the Native peoples ways of living. Jefferson's other intentions were to also gather information of the Native Americans. Jefferson has always wanted to venture out west to explore lands. He was interested in Native American culture although the decision to expand towards their territory would cause them to leave their way of living life. Slavery was also an issue considering that Jefferson didn't support extension of slavery. He felt that could cause friction amongst the people down in the southern regions, eventually giving the possibilty of a civil war. Jefferson wanted to find a water route to the Pacific as well for better methods
The Patriot is known as this action packed, adventurous movie, and most americans have watched this movie despite the fact of its inaccuracies, also depicting america as great and the british as bad. This movie takes place in 1776, this was before the declaration of independence was signed and a idea was proposed about breaking away from the king and initiating a new nation was great but arguable. Not all the americans wanted to be independent from Great Britain, there was separation between the rebels and the colonials ,the rebels that wanted have to freedom and the Colonials that wanted to stay faithful to the king, america was nowhere near to united. The boston incident turned into a civil war. Later on, loyalists saw the british military as a authorized army, therefore loyalists joining the army because they were nationalistic like the rebels. However, in the movie they point out one loyalist because in the movie The Patriot they depict the americans in a positive light because if they stuck to true history they couldn't do that and would make the americans look bad.
