Societal Since Netflix is such a widely used streaming service it is evident it will have some sort of societal impact good, and bad. Netflix is replacing a lot of traditional methods such as going on movie dates, borrowing from video stores like Blockbuster, or even buying DVD versions of movies. All of these have been replaced with a click of a button from anywhere in the world. Although Netflix has provided easy access to a wide range of entertainment to our society, it is also the result of some things we could live without. With the purchase of these films and shows comes a hand full of different contracts, rules, and regulation that Netflix must abide by to avoid any legal disputes leading to disaster for the video streaming service. This makes the company bound by contracts in a way. Some contracts have limited accessibilities to shows and movies that expire overtime resulting in lost content for the company. To avoid the loss of content and become freer from contracts Netflix as gone into creating its own original shows and movies that consumers have been seeming to

Netflix was so successful purely because of their strategy. They had an idea to challenge the norm of video stores and they were able to get ahold of the streaming market before anyone else could jump in. Now that other companies like Amazon Prime Video, Hulu and HBOgo have launched, this puts pressure of Netflix to figure out ways to maintain customers. Netflix started with their own series that have become very popular to their customers and these shows are only Netflix exclusives. As a Netflix customer from when they did mail-to-home DVDs, I’d say that Netflix is constantly predicting what markets will be like and they are coming up with different ways to make them exclusive to their customer; when there are several
Netflix is focusing on the groups that need to relax after a hard day of work, or just groups that seek for relaxation. This group likes to watch series or movies for their relaxation. Last week, the Wall Street Journal posted the article, “Netflix Makes Canada Pledge” on its website. The article was about how the well-known streaming service is keeping business with the Great White North. This is being done due to the concerns growing in Canada because of the streaming service’s increase success in the country. Some believe Netflix’s outsource material could negatively impact Canadian television and film. There have been reports of a decrease in cable and an increase of streaming services which includes Netflix. There is also the belief of the possible risk that the streaming service can also effect Canadian culture. As a result, Netflix has taken several steps to satisfy the country’s demands. As of now, Netflix is already
The biggest negative that Netflix brings is the loss of anticipation and excitement. The loss of anticipation and excitement is bad because it takes away the motive to continue watching TV shows. The motive for watching TV shows is taken away because you have nothing to look forward to. One of the great things about cable TV is that you must wait every week for a new episode. I know this sounds like it’s a negative but if you think about it you probably wait all week long and get so excited for the day that your favorite TV show finally airs a new episode. Loss of anticipation and excitement is taken away with Netflix. This excitement is taken away because, it’s all there at one time you don’t have to wait for anything to come out. This means that you can burn you on the TV show that was once your absolute favorite thing to

“Netflix has revolutionized how we watch television. Personally I think it is for the better,” daid Byrne. “If I have two hours before I need to leave the house I can watch two to four episodes of something and it let's me think about where the story is going while I am at work.”
Breaking into the video streaming industry has allowed Netflix to deliver programming “on demand” creating a “library of programs” via the internet , allowing viewers to watch what they want when they want instead of just watching “what’s on” like they would have to when using cable. There are only a few firms with the economies of scale to compete with Netflix, which is why it is safe to say that the company operates under a natural monopoly where a barrier of entry exists. Netflix is subscriber funded. People who subscribe to the service pay a monthly fee for access to its content. In order to keep its revenue flowing Netflix has to constantly buy content its subscribers are willing to pay for.
Legislation helps Netflix to maintain its integrity by application of anti-piracy laws against illegal and file sharing website, which permit internet users to download copyright content directly to their device. Legislation provides Netflix a stronger opportunity to expand their business wherever the law is able to control the act of piracy. Law also supports online video streaming companies with certain aspects. In 2017, according to the World’s Most Valuable Brands, Netflix was ranked 71st most valuable brand.
Netflix could pursue movie studios if it can build up a higher number of customers who are watching their exclusive shows. The con to a movie studio is the fact that there will be various expenses which could result in removing part of their customers who enjoy the low 7.99 rate. Therefore Netflix would become something that it is trying to compete against which is the bigger cable providers. An avenue that Netflix is best suited for is creating original shows, and movies such as House of Cards. For Netflix to take the next step it has to create at least one more show that has a national audience such as the type of numbers that Breaking Bad, or Walking Dead has. This would pave the way for them to create more of a fan-base, and allow them
This topic has become controversial. Will Netflix kill TV? Netflix seeks to reprogram America. So, what will happen to the mass culture if it succeeds? As you can see, Netflix affects our culture in so many different ways, and it’s not something many people realize. Mentally, emotionally, socially, academically, and your health. It also affects the internet and media, the economy, TV, cable companies, and other businesses. Netflix has advanced in many ways, as well as TV in general. It is so convenient and in a way addicting, so it is hard to realize how much it affects us and our
Starting off as a mail-only service in August of 1997, the service rapidly bloomed into an online, paid source for thousands of movies, series, and other TV shows. Although their streaming option is the most favored, Netflix still offers users the opportunity to order DVDs and other forms of tangible movies.
