Miranda Lambert’s song “Automatic” definitely explains how much the times have changed because of technology. Back then there wasn’t a thing called Facebook, Twitter, texting, etc. If you want to invite someone to an event of some sort you either send the invite through the mail or invite them by actually asking them face-to-face. Thanks to technology everything has become faster and easier, but what about the negative perspective technology has caused. Social media, phone games, taking selfies all causes procrastination. Phones at school and work have become an issue. Teens in school are constantly getting phones taken away from being on them instead of paying attention in class. “An April 2010 study by the Pew Internet and American Life Project and the University of Michigan found that in schools that permitted students to have cell phones, 71 percent of students sent or received text messages on their cell phones in class.” Also, this goes for at work and school, fiddling with your phone can cause procrastination. Turning assignments in late can cause negative consequences of getting a bad report for not doing your best. However, there are other negative impacts of technology even in someone’s social life.

It’s becoming common to make friends and meeting people from the internet. On the show “Yes to the dress,” there has been many brides to be that have said they have met their fiancés from online. New York Daily News has an article on marriages that fired-up from online dating. It said that one-third of couple have met online. Meeting people from the internet is a dangerous act. You don’t know who this person really is. They can tell you they’re a police officer, but in reality they’re a sex offender. Today’s society, it’s common for people to run their businesses and keep contact with co-workers, customers, or family that aren’t nearby. So many people sell, buy, and trade through social media. Facebook and craigslist are examples. There are even people that do business through social media like selling arts and crafts. Although there are these perks in having technology, people are still over using and abusing it. Technology will only grow and consume our lives more as the days go by.
