HOW I MET MY WIFE I was on my way back to Chicago from Vietnam, where I had been a war correspondent attached to the First Marine Division at DaNang. I had lived for a while in Australia, spent a week in New Zealand, and now I was in the airport at Auckland. I had gone up on the walkaway above the waiting room. Looking over the crowd of travelers, a beautiful tall redhead appeared with orange curls, very elegant in her best traveling clothes. Mmmm. She was something like Deborah Kerr in AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER with Cary Grant, but with a long Viking face. I made my way downstairs and inserted myself into her path, saying, "Hello." I was a rough, common-looking character in blue jeans, and her nose was in the air. She sniffed,"Hello," back, but she didn 't notice me at all. I was quite beneath her line of vision. We were on the same plane to Tahiti, but I didn 't get to speak to her again. In Tahiti, I met up with a tennis pro who was on a world tour and we hung out. And then one night I ran into the redhead again, in a hotel lounge. She was with a Swiss fellow I had also met--and I was to learn later that he had warned her not to have anything to do with me, that I looked disreputable. But anyway I asked her to dance. There was beautiful music playing and the Polynesian waves were hitting the shore under a bright moon, palm trees waving in the breeze. She turned me down. So I asked again. She turned me down again. The third time I asked her, she danced with me. And after
Even though she is of the enemy family, I thought that in any cases love was possible, and that without letting both siblings know I could forever be with her, and that in any cases we could run away together. On that night, after the ball, I have left both Benvolio and Mercutio and went climbing up her balcony, and from both side we exchanged our vows. When she was done with hers, I stopped her mouth with a kiss after having heard enough, and my heart was beating so fast that the night with her passed so fast till the moment I had to leave, which made it hard to take out my sight upon her perfect shadow.
The theme of Alice Munro’s story “How I met my Husband” is Social expectations mold individual circumstances.
The story of Alice Munro's "How I Met My Husband" concerns a young woman named Edie who falls in love with a man well above her station. Edie falls in love with a pilot named Chris Watters who is unfortunately engaged to another woman, Alice Kelling. Eventually, Chris leaves the community in which Edie and Alice both reside, promising to write to her although he never does. Through a twist of events, the mailman believes that Edie is enamored of him and that is why she waits for the mail with baited breath every day and she agrees to marry him, never letting on the real reason for her devotedness to the letter box. What makes the story so interesting is Munro's characterizations of the two female love interests, the theme of misconception and misunderstanding, and her use of irony.
“It only take one person to change your life.” It could be a spouse, a long lost family member, or maybe even a baby. Change is never a bad thing. You will always have to face change, whether it’s changing schools, having to adjust to a new sibling, or even having to adjust to a new job.
It was love at first sight. I asked for her number and we started dating. She was born and raised in the United States. Soon after, we got married in City Hall and moved in together. We rented a studio apartment and were having the time of our lives, even if we were on a tight budget. Since I wanted to legalize my immigration status, we contacted Immigration Attorney Alice Antonovsky to discuss our story.
Dr. Adolph Brown once said, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” This quote certainly relates to the theme things are not always what they appear to be. All that this phrase simply means is to not make a decision based off the way someone looks; they could turn out to be entirely different than what is expected. Other books such as “Fall on your knees” by Ann-Marie Macdonald uses similar themes to better relate to her story. The authors use of foreshadowing, conflict, and characterization unveils the theme appearances can be deceiving.
I floated back to where I left her, knowing that in my heart this was the moment of a lifetime. As I took her face in my hands and kissed her sweet cheeks and said, “Lizzy my sweet Lizzy, will you marry me”? She whispered as she said “yes I will marry you my dearest Montresor”. I swept my future bride off her
With that letter it’s noon and I’m most likely to find her at Sammy’s. I see her a little ways up the street, and I start to run towards her. She turns around because someone starts to talk to her. Once I reach her I spin her around, and kiss her. Her reaction feels shocked at first, then she kisses me back once she realizes who it is. After the kiss was over I notice her crying I ask “Why are you crying beautiful?” She says to me “It’s been so long I thought you would have forgotten about me.” I look at her with tears welling up in my eyes and reply “I could never forget about the girl of my dreams, the girl that I love, and the girl I can’t live without.” I then decide that this moment is the perfect moment. I then with no second thought got down on one knee. With no words in my mouth to say she still understood what my gesture meant. She then with no words in her mouth to say nodded yes. I then stood upright, and tilted her back a little bit. I kissed her yet again, but this time more passionately with more meaning. I knew deep down inside of me that this is my girl, my everything, and here shortly she will be my wife and the mother to my
There was just something about her, as soon as I laid my eyes on her I just knew I fell in love. I guess it’s true what they say you can fall in love at first sight. But at first I felt like I just wasn't good enough for her, I felt like if I even tried I would just embarrass myself. But the way she just worked on that hardwood floor just gave me goosebumps and shivers going down my spine. When I isolate myself with her four countless hours it made me forget about everyone else in this world it felt like we were the only ones.
We decided to marry in New York, New York. Choosing the city of Brooklyn as our destination. As we loaded the car a few hours later we began our long journey to the city that never sleeps. We drove all night arriving on the Brooklyn bridge at 11:00 a.m. the excitement was evident on our faces seeing the looming buildings becoming larger than life around us. As we crossed the bridge I see the statue of liberty on my right. So large and beautiful as she held her torch welcoming us to New York. I felt the most amazing sense of pride seeing this gift from France in its symbolic stance. I am bouncing up and down in my seat saying “Baby can you believe it that is the Lady Liberty and she is gorgeous.” Kari being very shy and introverted exclaimed
After the short hour and a half plane ride, we arrived at her “house.” My eyes glowed at the sight.

After a few hours of exploring around the mountain I decided to go back to the cove to catch my breathe. I put my headphones in, sit down in one of the beach chairs, enjoy the weather. A few minutes later a couple appears. We greet each other and then they sit down in two chairs right next to me.
We have always heard of the stories where people meet their future wife or husband in the most unpredictable places.
