1. Best Post (Week 6: Music) For this week’s discussion, I decided to research and talk about how music reflects society and ideologies of the time. This topic is relevant as music is ubiquitous throughout society, especially American culture and studying the different types of music can further give us insight about the culture of societies. Throughout the decades, music has often mirrored the ideologies of the society at the time and has evolved with not only the generations, but also with new technological advances. Evolving from only live performances to being available everywhere with just a couple key strokes away, music has played an important role is society as it evolves due to technological advances such as the television and internet. When analyzing the type of music with the circumstances present in society at the time, we can see that music often reflects society. For instance, following the destructive First World War, music in the 1920s was upbeat and cheerful, dominated by jazz as the economy strengthened. This period, often referred to as the roaring twenties, was characterized by extravagant parties and general optimism and that is certainly reflected in the music of the time period. Furthermore, in the 1980s, with the introduction of the TV channel MTV, music was dominated by music videos. In addition, new music genres were developed such as, new wave and Synth-pop, following the rise in popularity of the computer. As society
