I don’t really recall learning how to read and write but I do know that I enjoyed it a lot when I was younger. All throughout elementary school reading and writing was like a science to me. Even though, reading and writing can get challenging reading out loud always helped me learn how to pronounce and spell words correctly. I soon became more comfortable reading large text like chapter books and newspapers. It all started in the 2nd grade. Each day my teacher would give the class a journal entry to write about and we would all have 30 minutes to do so. I liked the fact that we got to write because I would always tell my teachers about my fun weekends I would spend with my father and what I was looking forward to the next weekend coming up. Back then writing felt like an escape route. It felt like an escape route to me because when you’re writing you can be anyone you want to be. Being able to write something down on paper clears your mind whatever you don’t have the confidence to say out loud you can always write it down. I remember whenever the teacher would ask who wanted to read a paragraph in the textbook or chapter I would be the first to raise my hand. I felt like reading out loud in class was practice. My mom also taught me that if I read out loud in the bathroom mirror I would soon be more comfortable to read out loud in front of anybody. So I practiced reading in the mirror and I noticed that my reading did get better. Whenever I would get stuck on a word I would write it down and look it up then I would go back and reread whatever I just read to
