Betrayed, a House of Night novel. I highly recommend this book to you. This book has reeled me in from the very beginning. It is romantic yet heartbreaking. Betrayed is a good book because it has humans, vampires, and death, all the more exciting. This book has it all, and catches your attention instantly. Zoey's powers will amaze you, her friends, and her loyalty will also amaze you. The P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast wrote a "dark, as well as thrilling" story of betrayal.

One that stood out to me was," remember, darkness does not always equate to evil, just as light does not always bring good." This simile stands out so much. It is so inspirational. Another one that stands out is, "he os not the brightest crayola on the pack." This is a metaphor because it compares a person to a crayon, a non living thing. "Did all he** just freeze over!" - Zoey. This is referring to a place that is known to be very hot, so saying that it just froze over is metaphorically speaking, as in something totally opposite happening.
Betrayed, a novel in the series of House of Night os a wonderful, romantic, thrilling, and devour able. It ha reeled me in from the first paragraph. I never wanted to stop reading this book. Simile-“Sitting back and letting it run through my fingers like so much water” (4). This quote makes me think of the main character losing control. In this quote, the water is used in a simile to represent how she feels like she's just letting her opportunities slip through her fingers and she feels like there isn't anything she can do to stop it from happening because much like water you have no way of keeping it in your hands. Diction-“At my feet, the city doused its lights in sleep, its buildings blackened, as if for funeral” (11).
“Night’ shows that even in the most brutalising conditions, people still behave humanely. To what extent do you agree?”
Have you ever changed or have the people around you changed out of survival? People who survived the holocaust changed because of what they went through so they could survive. Just like Elie he survived Auschwitz and he will never be the same person he was before the concentration camps. In “Night” by Elie Wiesel, the main character, Elie developed into a new person through his experiences at Auschwitz Concentration Camp and survived.
My favorite simile used is when Sanders described the hammer he inherited. “The head is scratched and pockmarked, like an old plowshare that has been working rocky fields.” This simile caught me off guard and didn’t make sense to me at first. This simile gives the readers a bit of detail into Sanders lifestyle and up-bringing. I think it tells me that Sanders came from the city rather than the country it might have been compared to cars or skyscrapers in the shade instead of creek
"No matter how many times she was told she was loved there was no recognition that the proof was in the abandonment" (Zusak 32). The novel The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is the story of Liesel Meminger, a young girl who struggles through WWII and faces the pain and suffering of abandonment. When one is faced with such an abandonment and is forced to cope on their own, they may feel lost and alone. These emotions force people to find comfort. As in Liesel 's case, some people find comfort in books and words. Liesel 's perspective on abandonment can be seen through how she coped with her childhood trauma, Max 's illness and the Himmel Street bombing.
In the book Night by Elie Wiesel it says “human suffering anywhere concerns men and women everywhere.” This shows that the world’s problems are everyone’s problems. Everyone has their own responsibilities and when war occurs people tend to take on more responsibility than ever before. The United States is a prime example of making the world’s problems their own.
In the famous single,“Fireflies”, there were many uses of similes and metaphors to show his vivid dreams when he was young. In stanza 6, Adam Young sang “Cause I feel like such an insomniac”. This is an example of simile, Adam Young is comparing himself to a person who is regularly unable to sleep. In the last stanza, Adam Young sang “Because my dreams are bursting at the seams”. This shows an example of metaphor, because he is comparing two thoughts without using like or as. In stanza 7, Adam Young sang “I got misty eyes as they said farewell”. This is another example of metaphor, Adam Young is trying to convey the idea that he is going to cry as the fireflies said a farewell. By using many
Kelly Link’s “Get in Trouble”, is a book that keeps the reader guessing in each story. She was able to add several genres in just one story. For example, “The Summer People”, had elements of mystery and fantasy combined into one, while “Secret Identity” focused more on romance and mystery genres. She made the stories seem extraordinary. While reading the stories, you will find yourself getting lost in the book. Every minute you spend reading “Get in Trouble”, you wonder what will happen next or who will appear. Link executes reality and fantasy very well in this book.
Luba Frederick, a holocaust survivor, answered “To die was easy.”, when discussing the tragic and horrible events of the holocaust. In the Nazi concentration camps, life was miserable. Jews were oppressed by Nazi’s and forced to do their dirty work. Families, jobs, dreams, were nothing more than an illusion as cruel and inhumane treatment replaced them. People felt hopeless and looked to death as an option. Many were intrigued with the idea of death, since it was easier to give up rather than choosing to continue. Majority of people stopped eating, gave up their religious faiths and hope, welcoming the darkness to embrace them. Surviving was a constant struggle for these people and the only way to overcome it was the acceptance of death.
Humans are born with freedom and rights. Every human being should be treated fair and equal. They should have their rights and their rights should be protected. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, the Jews were treated cruel and their rights were taken away as a human. They were treated like animals. The Jew’s rights were violated by the Nazi’s. Article two states that “everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political, or other opinion.” , which has been violated,in the story it states , “We no longer had the right to frequent restaurants… to travel by rail, to attend synagogue, to be on the streets after six.”(11). Humans should not be limited to be free. In article five it states that “No
In the book Night by Elie Wiesel there are many instances where his use of imagery helps establish tone and purpose. For example Elie Wiesel used fire (sight) to represent just that. The fire helps prove that the tone is serious and mature. In no way did Wiesel try to lighten up the story about the concentration camps or the Nazis. His use of fire also helps show his purpose. “Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, that turned my life into one long night seven times scaled. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the small faces of the children whose bodies I saw
Many are familiar with Anne Frank's diary and have even sat down and watched the movie The Diary of Anne Frank. With her diary we learn a lot about Anne and her family, as well as the tragic story of their life, and the lives of many other Jews. However, this is not the only movie that gives us an insight in the life of a young girl during World War II. The Book Thief is in many ways similar to The Diary of Anne Frank in which the viewer is provided the experiences of the war between two very different young girls that have to adapt to a new home and possess an increasing hunger for knowledge.
The novel “Night” was written by Elie Wiesel and is a memoir of his life during World War II. The book starts with his life living in Hungary with his family. It then tells of how they were taken away to concentration camps throughout the war. During Elie’s stays at the various camps you see the sacrifices he makes and how the experience changes him.
Similarly, in “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou conveys that people can not let anything stop them from achieving their dream and to fight back. The use of similes expresses this because it shows how good or bad a
The novel "The Blind Assassin" by Margaret Atwood is a short story about Iris Chase Griffen and how she starts writing the story of her life for her granddaughter during the time of World War I. She tells the story with scenes from her present life as well as many flashbacks throughout her life. In the story, the protagonist, Iris Chase Griffen, has difficulty with the death of her sister, her unhappy marriage to her husband and her affair with Alex. During the story, she encounters her sister’s journals and ultimately learns that her husband, Richard was raping her sister Laura. Literature is to be known to have an emotional impact on the reader and this novel by Margaret Atwood is no different. There are several conflicts in this work, and they all help to convey themes of human nature vs. society and herself.
