Words cannot express my gratitude. Receiving the Bettye McDonald Caldwell and Fred T. Caldwell, Jr. scholarship is truly an honor! After the lottery scholarship, I end up having to pay for about half my tuition, which makes this gift is an incredible blessing. Going to school full-time and working full-time is a difficult balancing act, but not working is not an option. When I opened the email stating I had been awarded this scholarship, a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders and an overwhelming sense of accomplishment overtook me. It gave me a deep and powerful feeling of success. This scholarship award is proof to me that hard work does pay off. It is a motivator to work even harder to achieve my goals and reach my dream career. I sincerely thank you with every piece of my heart.
I live in Benton Arkansas with my mother and two younger brothers. Benton has been my home for the past twelve years and I hope this area will always be my home. I live in a rural

Although, high school is not where I discovered my passion for children. Post graduation, I was concerned because I honestly had no idea what I wanted to do in life. The following summer I got a job at a Childcare Network daycare center. That job sparked my passion that quickly grew into the career dreams I am pursuing now. Currently, I am still employed at the same daycare center. This August will mark my fourth year anniversary of employment . I am funding my education by doing what I love! I also babysit frequently for several parents I have met through the daycare. This past month I was offered a position of employment at 10 Fitness. I am currently working at Childcare Network in the mornings and 10 Fitness in the evenings. I was hesitant to work somewhere not revolving around children and it is definitely been an adjustment, but I have now realized that taking this job has and will continue to assist me is numerous
I want to help research and design robotic prosthetics that provide more natural movements and the sense of touch. Movement is one of the challenges that affect people with missing limbs the most. Having the ability to stand, walk, reach, and grab are tasks that do not come easy for them. They will always need assistance. Being on our high school robotics team, we built robots that could lift, throw, and grab objects. I would love to make robotic devices to help disabled people live normal lives. I recently had the opportunity to visit a facility for wounded soldiers at Ft Sam, TX. We learned how they fit and customize prosthetic arms and legs for the soldiers and how they benefit
I believe that I should be awarded this scholarship because of my effort in my past twelve years. There have been many times where I wanted to give up on school, but my motivation arose from my parents and their struggle to keep my sister and me in school. Being from Guatemala, their goal was for me to get my education, and if I didn’t try I would be letting the opportunities slip through my hands. Throughout my four years of high school I’ve had sleepless nights, about 100 cups of coffee, endless alarm clocks, and stressful test days to get myself where I am now. I am twelve out of the one thousand and ninety-nine seniors; my GPA is a four point five. In the end it was all my effort. Without me pushing myself, I wouldn’t have been here awaiting
I think I deserve this scholarship because I am a bright student that continuously strives to be the best that I can be. I have been through many struggles but continue to make the most of life itself. To me scholarships are not just free money to go out and spend on whatever. I truly need this money to be able to further my education because it is already a huge struggle for me to put gas in my car so that I can go to my nurse aide class. I know that things will work out as long as I never give up on my dreams. I am very serious when it comes to my education. This is because in society today if you don't have a good educational background then it is very hard to find a good job. Life has always been a battle for me but knowing that there are people out there who are ready to help and inspire me through the hard times just makes it all worth it. So as long as i know that people appreciate what I do, I will never give up.
I would like to be considered for an additional scholarship due to not only financial reasons but because I believe I can become a model Honors College student. I'm actively involved in multiple organizations on campus, I work part-time as a student assistant with the Honors College along with making sure I get good grades.
I would use this scholarship to further my education and dream of becoming a surgeon. I have volunteered at St. Anthony Hospital since October 2016 in the PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) and the OR (Operating Room). I have over 500+ hours volunteering and in conjunction with that I have done a 100-hour internship over the summer. In the PACU, I work with nurses and I get to observe patients waking up from surgery. I help the nurses with anything they need like monitoring a patient, getting family members, cleaning bays, and answering phones. I help out in the OR by cleaning and stocking. It is fulfilling not only because I help the nurses out a lot, but also because I have a passion for the medical field. I started volunteering because of my interest in the medical field
Uneducated, Ignorant, and a house keeper was all I was set to be living in a small predominantly white town in Florida. I knew racism existed, but was too young to comprehend it. As I sat in class to better myself, and ensure that I learned the native tongue of those around me I found myself becoming blended. I am a Puerto Rican/Dominican American and the second generation of being a natural born citizen. I am, however, the first generation to apply to college. I feel I deserve this scholarship because I have come a long way from racism and overall expectations.
I believe I deserve the A.R.S.S.B Dean’s Student Advisory Scholarship because I am a hardworking student in the business field. I strive to improve myself daily, using the resources I am given throughout our campus. I make a great effort to always staying updated when it comes to any events dealing with the School of Business or TAMIU. Although, I am not involved in the A.R.S.S.B Dean’s Student Advisory Council, I hope to get involved with this program next semester that way I may gain experience and develop stronger work ethic skills. I believe I would be a great recipient for this scholarship based off my dedication to my work studies, and my will to be involved with TAMIU. Although I am classified as a Junior, it is my first year in college,
I believe that I deserve this scholarship because I have dedicated my life to helping anyone and everyone I can. Starting in middle school I worked very closely with The Town of North Hempstead in all and any volunteer opportunities they offered. In 9th grade I was given the chance to help out at ht e local library, then at the school library, and have set up sessions where high school students read to the kids in elementary school. 10th grade I continued with these endeavors. In 11th grade I realized I wasn't doing enough to help, so I joined up with Shoes for Harvest. This organization collects shoes and distributes them to people who are in need. Working with them we collected over 1500 pairs of shoes, which is more then they had done in
I have always wanted to help relieve my parents from stress and work, provide for them without calling for financial help, and live with minimal troubles. As I grew older, I realized the only way that I could aid my parents: I need to go to school and do well. I worked as hard as I could in all my classes at school, pushing myself as much as I could to advance to the next year with my best. College is the next step, but how could I get through it without financial problems that could grow worse anytime? This question pestered me relentlessly everytime I think about attending college until I decided I need to apply for any scholarship that would help me reach my life goals.
I wish to be considered for the scholarship as an undergraduate student in Cameron University, majoring in English Language.
the importance I place on doing well in school and putting in the time to study
Please tell me I can’t do something because I'll try even harder to prove you wrong! I been through so many obstacles but was able to overcome them with God. If I can chose one word to describe why I deserve this scholarship it will be hard working. Besides being an excellent student, I love doing volunteer work.I am grateful to find opportunities like the one that your foundation is providing to
For one of many reasons, I qualify for the Nina Mason Pulliam Legacy Scholarship program because as a juvenile I was in custody of the state and attended a group home named Penny Lane located in North Hills California. At the time when I resided there I was 16 years old. I’ am now twenty-six years old and I care for two dependents whom are my children. My children are now 7 and four years of age. At the age of seventeen I dropped out of high school and became pregnant the following year. The fact that I was soon becoming a mother, I wanted to go back to school but was discouraged and had no positive role models to look up to. When I finally gained the courage to attend school and obtain my G.E.D I was one step closer to starting my journey. The following year I enrolled to college and became the first person in my family to enroll in college. Enrolling in college was foreign to me and I felt alone because no one else in my family can relate.
I am applying for this scholarship so I can have better resources to help improve my art. I would love to take art classes outside of school or participate in summer camps. I have always loved art and I love to paint with oils but I am still a beginner in oil painting, so this scholarship will help me along my art journey. I consider myself a pretty creative and artistic person who tries to see the artistic side in everything. I’ve always had a knack for art since I was young, and I likely got the “art genes” from my dad and grandma who were both incredible artists. I’ve been starting to take art seriously for about 2 years now. I can see myself making a career out of art someday, whether it’s as a portrait painter or an art teacher, I know I want to pursue art. I have entered a couple of art contests and received a few honorable mentions, and nowadays I've been having more chances to enter contests. I am ecstatic to have opportunities like that no matter the outcome of the competition.
My parents have always provided for me. I never went without a new pair of shoes for the first day of school, or had to experience missing a meal because we couldn't afford it that night. My parents have always done what they could to keep me fed, clothed, with a roof over my head. When my public school education wasn't supporting my excelling academic skills, my parents chose to make sacrifices so that I could attend a private school in hopes of a better education. Countless times, my mom and dad have put aside what they want for the desires, and benefits of their children. Without their many sacrifices I wouldn't be who I am today. I wouldn't have received an education from one of the top private schools in the state, or even the nation. My parents have provided for me time and time again and I would like to give back to them in any way I can. They have offered to assist me in paying for my college education, but my goal is that they won't have to worry about this extra expense. Whether it means I apply for every available scholarship I qualify for, or I take on an extra job, I want to do this for them. My dad was unable to attend college due to financial complications and its his dream to to his children attend college and be successful.
