In today’s world, people believe that all enslavement or forced labor of any kind has quietly deceased over the years, that all types of enslavement are behind modern societies and totally in the past, yet it has been exactly the opposite. An international office stated, “ Only one out of 100 victims of trafficking is ever rescued. This means around only 24,000 out of the 2.4 million people enduring human trafficking will be spared,” (“Combating Human Trafficking”). Human trafficking is still a very big problem across the world, even in the United States. Human trafficking has only increased over the past two decades. It is also not likely that a person being trafficked is only enduring this for a few months and then is set free; people are victims for multiple years, possibly even decades. Human trafficking is still a serious threat to innocent lives across the planet because rates are increasing, people are stuck in that vicious cycle for years, and it is damaging millions of people everyday.
There are multiple ways that people can be trafficked, all terrifying and even life scarring towards a person. Hart stated, “ People are forced to work against their will, they believe that if they do not work, they will be either physically or emotionally hurt- being threatened constantly,” (Hart 7). This shows the true horrors of human trafficking. It is saying how that the traffickers inflict so much hurt onto a person that they will do anything the other person says at the snap
Over the last several years, the issue of human trafficking has been compared with the slave trade. This is because both are focused on taking someone against their will and forcing them to engage in demeaning activities. Yet, the practices of modern traffickers are different from slave traders. To fully understand the similarities and disparities requires contrasting them with one another. The combination of these factors will provide specific insights about the two. (Bales, 2010)
Human trafficking have become more significant in modern society. Measuring the extent and tracking the numbers of people trafficked yearly is difficult due to the covert operations of human trafficking worldwide (Shelley, 2010). Shelley noted that trafficking are often committed by discrete ethnic groups that are difficult to for foreigners or outsiders to penetrate (Shelley, 2010, p. 4). Europe is currently facing an increasing migration of illegal immigrants from the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, with an estimated 400,000 people entering Europe each year (Shelley, 2010). Human trafficking and human smuggling in the U.S. is composed of young sex trafficking victims, and are often native born (Shelley, 2010). One of the problems of human
Every day these men, women, and children are affected and forced to do actions that they do not want to do. Because of the way human trafficking looks to the naked eye, it is very hard to depict what is good and what is putting people in agony every day. It's hard to understand that the people holding their victims captive will do anything to keep them or sell them, these people cannot get away easily. There has been stories of people getting out and being brought back in and of the criminals doing anything to get them back because they think they have formed a special bond. When these people are trafficked they have no choice but to do what they are told or else there is consequences depending on the type of work they are forced into. “In what seems like a coordinated attack, assailants also stormed a government shelter in an attempt to kidnap other trafficking survivors. Our safe house is home to women and girls who have endured harrowing abuse and who are fighting legal battles against traffickers” (How), is an account from when a safe house was berated in an attempt to get the girls back. Legal officials find it hard to keep the girls safe from harm because of the lengths these people are willing to go to, to get these victims back. But if these people do get out there isn’t the best situation on the other side. “ Victims of human trafficking often find themselves
The word “Freedom” is a right that most humans take for granted each day. Unfortunately, throughout the world, not everyone has this beloved privilege. Millions of unlucky men, women, and children are being executed or forced into what is known as a modern day slavery. The International Labor Organization estimates that there are 20.9 million victims of human trafficking globally, with hundreds of thousands in the United States. For thousands of years, humans have been forced into numerous forms of sexual and physical slavery. Human Trafficking has been a recurring issue throughout history because of its lack of awareness, economical burden on people, and financial gain for smugglers.
Human trafficking is not just a part of our history; it is continuously growing around the world today because of traffickers who are using it as an easy way to make a profit. Victims of human trafficking feel as if they have no way to escape because they have limited ways to survive or make a good enough living to support themselves along with their families outside of the sex industry. Women, children and even men from time to time are taken before they get the opportunity to receive little if any education, at all. Therefore, many who could’ve gotten out of the sex industry chose to stay out of fear to return back home after years to be discriminated against by their own families and communities, knowing getting a job would be nearly
Human trafficking is just like the early 1900s; it is simply kidnapping someone for either sexual encounters or forced labor. Trafficking degrades the soul and mind leaving human beings drowning in their own self-pity. Trafficking does not only affect the emotions, but it also affects the human body. Trafficked victims face exposure to STD’s, being beaten, malnutrition, and even health deficiencies. The fight against human trafficking is mediocre in our world today, it is time for a stand, so that one day, family and friends will not be trafficked.

The impact of human trafficking on its victims can be very great or very minor. For example, a victim could be trafficked for three months and in that time frame develop a drug addiction. When she is freed from being trafficked, she may have no psychological issues, only a drug issue. She may not need all of the services another victim may need. Another victim could have been trafficked since she was a prepubescent child and at 25 years old, she is scarred for life and there may not be enough treatment in the world to make her feel "normal." A third victim could need multiple types of treatment which can include psychological treatment, substance use treatment and physical treatment because she was infected with multiple STD's and was forced
Many factors can be identified that put individuals at risk of being trafficked. While there are some victims that are kidnapped and forcefully trafficked, the vast majorities are made to believe false promises of a better life. Most victims come from low socioeconomic areas, with few opportunities available for advancement or further education within the community. Human trafficking is rampant in developing countries, especially those experiencing civil wars or any type of political instability. Wanting to escape the turmoil in their own country, many are promised jobs as nannies, maids, and waitresses only to arrive in their destination country to find it to be nothing like what they were promised. Often once they arrive, they are told they owe the trafficker an extra free that must be worked off before their passport and other documents will be returned. Them majority of victims of human trafficking are sourced from Asia, Africa, or Eastern Europe. While Western Europe, North America, as well as Asia, are popular destinations for victims of human trafficking (Ngwe, J. E., PhD., & Elechi, O. O.). Another element that puts someone at risk of being trafficked is lack of familial support. Because of this, runaways, homeless, and LGBT youth are at a greater risk of being trafficked (Aronowitz, A. A.).
Human trafficking has been around since the early beginnings of human civilization. Many simply called it slavery. The first cases of modern human trafficking victims were first discovered and made in to a publicized issue over 100 years ago. This began a movement to stop what was called, “white slavery,” prostitutes from European nations that were sent to brothels throughout the Western empires. This movement led to a series of four separate treaties in effort to combat this form of human trafficking. In addition to human sex trafficking, the late 1980’s brought forth to light the exploitation of migrant workers through forced human labor trafficking (Karmen, 2013). As time has passed, human trafficking has increased. According to the Polaris Project, an agency dedicated to the aid and rehabilitation of human trafficking victims, human trafficking is now a problem that occurs 365 days.
This is basically where by the traffickers kidnap or snatch you from either your home or area where you live and the victims are used as sex slaves, forced labour and child soldiers during wars in some countries, this normally occurs in Africa.
So, what exactly is human trafficking? Well, I provided the textbook definition but there are many ways in which trafficking can be carried out. Despite common misconceptions, trafficking does not require transportation or border crossing, and physical abuse or restraint does not always occur. The individual’s consent is also considered irrelevant (Project, 2012)!There is labor trafficking in which individuals are acquired through the use of force, fraud or coercion for the use of labor services (Resettlement, 2012). There are numerous forms of abusive practices that are linked to labor trafficking. The first is bonded labor or debt bondage. It is the most widely used method of subjecting individuals to slavery (Resettlement, 2012). It is usually well hidden and is the least known form of labor trafficking in today’s society. Victims of this form of labor trafficking become indebted to their “master”. Their labor is demanded as a means of repayment for a loan or service (Resettlement, 2012). Most never “pay off their debt”. Another form of labor that occurs is forced labor. Victims are forced to work against their will, and are threatened by violence or some other form of
There is a depression notion that the human race is willing to do anything to make money. Across the world, people are creating illegal markets at the expense of other in order to achieve profits. Some have small environmental impact while others affect the world significantly. Some markets that are well documented in media, and are more well known throughout society are drugs, human trafficking, and slavery. These are serious markets that need to be abolished, but have a small impact on the environment. Poachers are people who illegally kill endangered species in order to sell them to the ultra wealthy. This market is complicated with many moving parts. This elaborate market is complicated which creates many gaps in the system. Intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations are combating these crime rings. These organizations are just as dangerous as any criminal organization, must of which will kill innocent citizens in order to protect their profits. These animals range from exotic species like monkeys and rhinos to the common great white shark. Regardless of the number of animals, poaching is having a dramatic affect on the ecosystem. This situation has become serious, and there needs to be more actions to stop it. There are many steps that can be taken to halt or cripple these organizations.
The people involved in human trafficking are…. all victims. They can be of any age and any gender, however an unruly number of women are involved in human trafficking, both as victims and as culprits of the crime. Many offenders have a prominent role in the process of human trafficking and often become perpetrators of the clim as a means of escaping their own victimisation. Often, those who are being trafficked, are of the same race as that of their assaulter. They deceive their victims from all corners of the world and force them into exploitative actions and situations, without consent and often without full knowledge of the acts in which they are committing. It leaves the victims scarred for life and has a distressing effect on the mental, emotional and physical well-being of those captured into the web of human trafficking. Apart from physical abuse, victims suffer extreme emotional stress and often experience post-traumatic stress disorder and in return, experience anxiety, depression and insomnia.
Human Trafficking is the action of illegally recruiting, human beings either within national or international borders for sexual exploitation purposes. It is hard to pinpoint how many people are being affected by trafficking, due to the secrecy that the industry is involved in. Young teens are admitted in sex trade around the age of 12-14 years old. The sexual traffickers are generating almost 100 billion in profits. It is the third largest international crime industry. In the U.S alone, around 15,000-17,000 people are trafficked each year. This social problem is hard to interpret by others. People are not aware of the signs, dangers, and the effects that human sex trafficking has on society.
