ICT are stands for Information Communication Technology where it is widely used in education today. In some counties, there are some small percentage of education institute demand high levels of ICT to change and support many subject areas in the way of teaching and learning process. Traditional teaching practice like face-to-face contact teaching in the classroom has been outdated and some educationalist suggest using of ICT to replace the traditional teaching practice. There are many ways ICT can use in education like use of radio and TV broadcasting, teleconferencing, internet, software, electronic devices, e-book and e-learning
Radio and TV broadcasting refer to information and entertainment deliver to the public via transmission of electromagnetic audio visual signals (TV) or audio signals (radio). There are few ways of radio and TV broadcasting use in education such as direct class teaching which involves daily broadcast programming via radio and TV like 20 – 30 minutes to the student in order to substitute the teacher, school broadcasting like give complimentary resources like CD and print material which use to increase the effectiveness of trading classroom teaching practice and general educational programming including informal learning opportunities provided by National Geography and Sesame street.
Teleconferencing becomes very important in education as it is becoming more and more popular as many teleconferencing software such as Skype, Cisco Webex and Citrix
Having the ICT technology in schools it encourages the pupils to access a wide range of information and communication opportunities and enables pupils to store and retrieve, draft and redraft, test and analyse. This develops there learning skills that are required for the National Curriculum. These skills include: Communication skills, problem-solving, investigating, evaluating and analysing and critical
Modern technology has penetrated every aspect of our lives and made great impacts on our daily activities, especially in the area of education. The continuous infusion of technology in education has become an unchangeable tendency. Given the increased use of technology in education, much research has been done on the value of technology in education. However, none of the studies have answered all of the questions that are essential to determining whether continuous infusion of new technologies in education can improve the quality of education. Since a clear answer to this question is vital to help educational organizations to make decisions on how much
Education plays a vital role in shaping tomorrow’s leaders. Education is the process of giving or receiving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university. There are many reasons why one would need an education. For example, having an education can help someone obtain an exceptional job, increase their knowledge, and even increase their earnings potential. Obtaining an education is not only learning math, science, or history, but it also teaches people about the world around them. Having knowledge about the world can teach people about other cultures and different types of lifestyles. People can also learn about different and higher paying jobs. Another way to gain knowledge is through technology. Technology plays a significant role in education. The role of technology in education is to enhance learning.
ICT has become one of the most common resources in daily life. ICT has transformed the way people communicate and learn in almost every aspect of modern life for education (Higgins, 2007). Many countries have recognised ICT as a core part of education, along with writing and reading (Amin, 2008). The term ICT has had misconceptions that ICT refers to computers only, in circumstance this is incorrect. According to Pelgrum and Law (2003) during the 1980’s the word computers was given the title of IT (information technology), this demonstrated a shift of focus from computing technology to the ability to store and recover data. The term ICT was then introduced in 1992 (Pelgrum and Law, 2003).
Technology is the crucial factor for education sector to maintain all the data and information more effectively and efficiently. Increasing dependence on the technology is adjusting student-teacher cooperation with the progression of time (Candace, 2004). Nowadays, people use computers and internet for learning different programs. Internet helps students to find their own answers without the help of the teachers. Information technology like internet is increasing the opportunities to learn new things more easily and quickly. There are various online libraries that help the students and teachers with reading materials. Students can also post their work online for the teachers to read and grade. For instances: Westcliff university is using GAP (online system) where the student can see the question and post their answer online and the teachers can check the students work online as well. Information system has brought advancement in learning process with the help of audio-visual education. Nowadays, most of the students are taught with projectors and speakers with the help of power point presentation. In today’s technological world, most of the education sector utilizes the latest technology and software so as to enhance the overall learning experience of the students (Pandey,
Technology can help students in all areas of study. Students need to be able to use this technology since, “Currently and in the near future, it is understood that students need to acquire more autonomous skills of ‘information gathering, analysis, and display’” (Todnem, 2004, p. 1). Furthermore, the use of technology, mainly the internet, provides for variation since “Students find themselves bored and burnt-out of the lecture format to classes, so changing the curriculum and instruction to include things like online assignments and educational videogames can be one clear remedy” (Todnem, 2004, p. 1). Teachers who have implemented technology into their classrooms have noticed changes in their students. The most common of these effects being an increase in motivation. In “Effects of Technology on Classrooms and Students” another positive effect is given “technology effect stressed by many teachers was enhancement of student self esteem” (“Effects,” 2004, p. 2).
On a daily basis, both businesses and individuals rely on technology. It cannot be denied that technology has become part of our everyday life. As individuals, we all depend on technology, either for education, health purposes, transportation, communication, romantic relationships, and/or business growth . It is impossible to explore how each advancement in technology has impacted our lives as well as how it will impact the future, but we can briefly explore the major advancements. Technology impacts the environment, people individually, and the society as a whole.
In recent years, there has been more focus on involving technology with education for the sake of optimizing the results of educating and encourage the students to study and learn
TEACHER’S AWARENESS ON THE UTILIZATION OF ICT FACILITIES FOR BIOLOGY TEACHING IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN MATAZU LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, KATSINA STATE
ICT has got a great impact on life style of the people at present. The whole world has been connected under one roof as we have the facility of internet. ICT is used in many fields such as education, private sector and government sector and also among young students those who do higher studies. Most of the times in private universities, university colleges and institutes language teachers, practitioners, ELT lecturers, teachers, and students use ICT to get their work done easily. The technology is always on their hands. People use smartphones and they have laptops, tabs. Teachers can prepare their lessons while they travel in the bus. Students can do their homework and they can practice doing repeated exercise via the facility of ICT. Therefore, it is true that we are using the cutting edge technology without any age difference.
“Digital age” this is what people calls to the 21st century. Digital technologies are so much involved with us that life is difficult without technology as it has become a functional requirement of life besides the way we communicate, interact, and learn has changed. Thus our education field is very much depended on these technologies called ICT. ICT refers to information and communication technology. ICT offers technological tools which are used to communicate, share, store and manage information. This literature review will first focus ICT use in education, next five tools that can be used in education field and finally one tool that can be implemented while teaching and learning.
Due to ICT having various uses within education, those being, the subject of ICT and using ICT within another subject, it has in turn had an impact on pedagogies and the way they may have to change (Cox, 1997).
Technological advancement and globalization have ushered the era of global economy which is "powered" by technology, fueled by information and driven by knowledge. The era of such technology starts from the very beginning when the earlier mode of communication like telegram, wireless and cable telephones were invented. But there is no doubt in saying that the biggest inventions of last century were computers and internet which are considered the best in every mode of communication and information. Since information continues to grow exponentially, educational institutes cannot confine their activities just to imparting merely a prescribed set of knowledge; students are rather required to be kept updated about the latest techniques arriving with every passing second. This new learning culture has been greatly promoted by the use of "information and communication technology ICT tools", which are defined as "a diverse set of technological tools and resources used to communicate, and to create, disseminate, store, and manage information" (Ramesh 2003). These ICT tools can play their parts in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of our education systems and in assessment of student's learning. According to TLTP Project ALTER 1993, "The two main uses of technology in the assessment process are identified as: using technology to perform the actions and cognitive processes a tutor would employ to arrive at a
In recent years numerous studies have been conducted regarding the significant impact technology has made on education. The introduction of the IPhone® in 2007, provided accessi-bility to infinite resources for both educators and students. One of the most notable populations technology has impacted, is individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In the first decade of the new millennium, technology has proven to be a highly effective tool for in-creasing communication, in individuals with ASD. According to Finke, Hickerson, & McLaugh-lin (2012) nearly 445,000 students, between the ages of 6 and 21 years old, diagnosed with au-tism are served in schools in the United States. Hall (2012) reported the contributions by re-nowned geneticist and autism pioneer, Michael Wigler. Wigler’s significant research revealed the irrefutable genetic connection between Autism and the evolution of the brain. The ASD brain obtains information significantly different than the typical brain. Thus, the method to educate individuals with Autism must evolve as well.
Being aware of the significant role of ICT (internet) in our life, especially in the educational activities, education authorities should be wise enough in implementing the strategies to empower ICT in supporting the teaching and learning process in the classroom. ICT is
