Ever since the election of 1796, political parties have vigorously battled it out for the right to hold office in the United States legislature. Many of these new political parties had beliefs that differed from their political counterparts and many of these ideals are still intact today. But how does a person decide what political party to join or what to truly believe in? Depending on the person, it might take years or even a couple decades to find what is right for them. Lately, several political issues have come up regarding immigration and it would be best to discuss where I stand on this very important issue. As many people know the United States has a severe issue with illegal immigration. More than 11 million undocumented immigrants reside in the U.S. (Pew Hispanic Center). Although I do not fully support President Obama and the rest of the Democratic Party, I thought the President’s DREAM Act was a splendid idea. The DREAM Act laid out guidelines for the illegal immigrants to eventually gain citizenship. It also protected the children of illegal immigrants by giving them a chance, through contribution to American Society, to gain citizenship as well. On the other side, the Republican Party has simply toyed with this Act and are relatively against many things the Act would allow. The Republican Party believes that illegal immigrants should never be allowed the rights that would be given to them under the DREAM Act and encourage potential immigrants planning on coming to the U.S. to do so legally. I do not like the Republican view because it specifically targets illegal immigrants and their children in a negative way and does not give them an opportunity to become legal …show more content…

I do not know any criminals on death row but I feel the Death Penalty is not morally right even in serious cases of murder. I feel it is not right for a judge or jury to take a criminal’s life away no matter the circumstance. I believe that everyone has a right to life as it is granted to them by the U.S. Constitution. The two American political parties are even confused on which side to take. Although a majority of Democrats support the death penalty, a small number of them do not. The same could be said about the Republicans. Many Republicans do not support the Death Penalty. However, it can be noted that there have been more executions in republican controlled states than
