Immigration Editorial
On March 6, 2017, President Trump released the revised Executive Order 13769, “Protecting The Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into The United States.” This order blocks immigrants coming from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Yemen, and Sudan from entering the U.S for 90 days. In addition, it closes the entry to all refugees for 120 days and reduces the number of refugee admissions to only 50,000. The order links a connection to terrorism, particularly to the attack on September 11, 2001. The intention of the order, as stated in the Executive Order, is “to protect the American people from terrorist attacks by foreign nationals admitted to the United States.” This policy is implemented in an inhumane and inconsiderate

Without these brave generations of immigrants who had risked themselves to travel to our shores, our nation simply would not be the successful country that it has been today. According to the American Immigration Council, immigrants create job and business opportunities, increase the wages of native-born workers, and boost the economy in America.
President Trump says the goal of this Executive Order is to provide protection and security for our country. However, the nationalities that he selected on his ban list have not killed a single person in the U.S. According to the Foreign Policy Research Institute, the nationalities that were involved with the attack of September 11, 2001 were Saudis, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Lebanon. Based on this evidence, the travel ban will not make America safer; therefore, the Executive Order doesn’t serve its true purpose.
The U.S Government will need to do more than just extreme vetting and restricting certain nationalities from coming to U.S soil to keep America safe. He will need to unite and persuade the people in America and around the world that having the freedom of religion and tolerance surpass jihad. Most importantly, we should welcome refugees who are fleeing violence and persecution instead of denying them. Our country will need more allies than it has now, so preventing potential allies won’t make this country any safer.
In conclusion, the approach in which the President has
The Travel Ban marks a major turning point in the policies on immigration in the United States. Due to increased terrorist attacks and illegal immigrant numbers rising, it is believed that temporarily banning immigrants from particular countries is key to ensuring safety within the United States. Though many have expressed their concern towards the ban because of its similarity to previous discriminatory and unconstitutional acts. The ban has even been referred to as the “Muslim Ban”.
Met with mass protest and public outrage, the original travel ban was an executive order issued on January 27,2017. The ban rolled out an elaborate scheme said to protect the American people and “Make America Great Again”. The ban set a cap of 50,000 refugees to be accepted into the USA during 2017. It also included a temporary ban on Syrian refugees as well as people arriving from seven countries with predominantly Muslim populations. After being found in violation Immigration & Nationality Act of 1965 due to its discriminatory nature, the order is now back and has been redrafted.
Some Americans may argue that restrictions are placed to protect them from certain religious states which contain terrorist groups. Past terrorist attacks in this country has left deep impacts, one of the many resulted in approximently 3,000 people dead. It has been shown that the largest numbers of deaths within the United States are caused by violent extremism (Bracken). Recently, Donald J. Trump a former business man who just this year became the 45th president of the United States, has raised more awareness to this issue. In his attempts to keep America safe he proposed and passed a ban on foreign terrorist entry. Trump states "I therefore direct that the entry into the United States of nationals of those six countries be suspended for 90 days from the effective date of this order, subject to the limitations, waivers, and exceptions set forth in sections 3 and 12 of this order." This dilemma raised negative concerns and thoughts about many who once lived in the Islamic States that are being banned.
President Donald Trump’s immigration policy, now an Executive order, has been the topic of controversy since the order was signed on January 27th, 2017 (BBC.com). An improved order was again signed on March 6, 2017 (BBC.com). However, a case in the Supreme Court of USA will determine the future of the ban, which runs between October 2nd and December 21st (BBC.com). The first executive order banned people from seven countries: Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, and Libya from entering the United States for a period of 90 days. It also put a halt on refugee resettlement for 120 days and banned Syrian refugees permanently (Park). However, as per the revised executive order issued on March 6th, Iraq was removed from the list and the
I. Newly inaugurated President Donald Trump has recently approved a ban involving the restriction of travel into the United States of immigrants from seven Muslim countries. Since this ban is only for up to 90 days, this is just the beginning of a potentially longer or even permanent ban. This is not the first time he has demonstrated the lack of regard with social equality.
On November 10, 2015, two National Economic Experts argued on “what the U.S. Immigration policy should be?” Mark Krikorian, Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies argued against open immigration, while Alex Nowrasteh, an immigration policy analyst for the CATO Institute argued in favor of freer immigration. Reporter Jonathan Gonzalez of 9News Denver moderated the debate. The argument made by both experts was supported by strong evidence even though the ideas appear to be on two extreme ends with no middle ground ideas or compromises. At one extreme there is a need to reduce or stop immigration while the other extreme advocates for open borders. Even though Immigration has been an important part of American history, recently it has become a contentious issue, which is mostly about borders or no borders, and does not take in to account the macroeconomic aspect of this movement. The two experts argue on how the U.S. immigration program needs to adjust by scaling back or blocking further immigration vs. open immigration policy consistent with American values that promotes free-market economy.
On January 20th, 2017, Donald J. Trump was inaugurated and became the official 45th President of the United States. A mere seven days later, and the country is already tearing at the seams. January 27th, 2017 marks the day that the world stopped spinning for a multitude Muslim immigrants. It marks the day that the immigration ban was signed, prohibiting citizens from seven countries of a large Islamic populace (Yemen, Sudan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Somalia, and Libya) from entering America for a period of 90 days.On top of that, the U.S. refugee program was suspended for an extra 30 days in hopes of preventing terrorists from entering the country. This ban will be detrimental to not only America’s
As of January 27th, President Donald J. Trump has signed executive order 13769, entitled “Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States” in an attempt to mitigate the threat of Muslim terrorists entering the country. This entails blocking travelers from Syria, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, regardless of a valid non-diplomatic visa for a minimum of 90 days as well as prohibiting refugees from entering the United States for at least 120 days. A national out lash has been seen in response to the executive order, as both American and non-American citizens are being caught in the crossfire of the stipulations from the new order. As a result, international flyers are being held upon arrival in the U.S and prohibited from leaving unless
Immigrants may change the market in certain ways, but their hard work at bargain prices is good for America. Immigrants can’t even apply for welfare for the first five years that they’re in the country. “They buy clothes, food, televisions and houses, while paying sales tax on every bit of it and income tax on their salaries” (site) Most immigrants get fake social security cards to get jobs other than in the fields or factories were they don’t ask for social security cards. As they get fake social security cards, employers take out the same deductions from their salaries as they would to a U.S. born citizen. Even a day without immigrants in the United States, it would hurt the economy. If one day all the immigrants didn’t go to work, school or bought anything form stores, the economy would go down that day. Immigrants do give a lot to society these days.
Our newest president, Donald Trump, signed an executive order that keeps visa holders, refugees and citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States. These countries are Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen, and Somalia. Immigrants from those countries will be banned for 90 days, refugees for 120, and anyone from Syria has been indefinitely banned. There could be some exceptions on a case-by-case basis. This executive order was signed on Friday, January 27, 2017, and effects people whose nationality is one of those seven countries. Team Trump apparently did not run this by officials at the Justice Department. Trump’s purpose for the halt is to give government agencies time to come up with a better, stricter system and to make sure that individuals who are a potential threat to national security do not obtain visas. White House officials say the seven counties targeted had already been said to be a concern for terrorism. There have been no people accepted to the United States as a refugee that have been involved in a major fatal terrorist attack since the Refugee Act of 1980. There have been riots in airports and those seven countries to protest this ban. Air passengers were prevented from boarding flights to the United States. However, on February 3, 2017, a federal judge suspended significant parts of the executive order. Trump is not happy with this so the United States government put an emergency request to
However, none of the perpetrators of the major US terrorist attacks carried out in the name of Islam in the past 15 years have come from any nations on the ban list. (Nowrasteh, 2016) In fact, the country home to the biggest number of terrorists who have carried out successful attacks inside the United States is the US itself. For instance, The Orlando nightclub shooter who murdered forty-nine people was an American-born US citizen of Afghan descent. (Ellis, 2016) According to Alex Nowrasteh, an analyst with the Cato Institute, the average likelihood of an American being killed in a terrorist attack in which an immigrant participated in any given year is one in 3.6 million (Nowrasteh, 2016). The average American is more likely to die from their own clothing than an immigrant terrorist. To put that into perspective, they have a better chance to die trying to put on a T-shirt in the morning than they are in response to a terror attack. Banning people from a few Muslim-majority nations won’t reduce the terror threat and it certainly won’t eliminate
One of the main topics of discussion in the news today is the issue of Immigration. This has been a major issue for the last couple of months since the chain of command has changed. One of the first ex. order was concerning immigration that have been going on table debates back and forth from seven countries that have been under investigation for certain radical activities by the Obama Administration. President Obama issued an ex. order banning travel to and from these countries, but at the same time there are a lot of people whom live in the United States that has families who resides in these particular countries and will not be able to visit them because of the ban order. The premise of this order was that by stopping/banning travel
Immigrants have kept the united states energy to the American economy . Many immigrants believed they could make a better living in the united states than they could make in their homeland. Many immigrants work long hours for law in factories. As immigrants and other Americans began to move westward business followed and began to move west to they came to America to demand products and services also increased they also have made many contributions bringing their religious customs with them. Today immigrants provide skilled and unskilled labor and a lot of money into the economy they also provide importantly social contribution. Immigrants have essentially shown American society what it is to be American. many come to the United States now
The travel ban is an executive order which was put into place by President Donald Trump’s administration on January 27th, 2017. The order was put into place for our national security to “protect the nation from foreign terrorist entry into the United States.” This measure banned travel into the U.S. for 90 days from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. This obviously sparked an outcry from social media, which caused a divide among Americans. With a show of hands, how many of you think that the travel ban is actually a ban on Muslim refugees and that it is racist. Recent polls show that 57% of Americans favor the temporary ban while 33% are opposed to it, and 10% are still undecided. Racism, fascism, and Islamophobia; these words have all taunted supporters of President Trump and the travel ban. The one thing people don’t realize is that the travel ban isn’t banning Muslims from America. Who in the room can name the top 5 countries with the most Muslims. They are Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nigeria. Not one of these countries are listed in the ban. This ban is only for only ninety days, and is aimed at countries who have sent a large contingency of terrorists to the U.S. The countries selected have active terrorist training camps, and Trump is not the individual who selected the countries on the list. These countries are unstable, with no reliable vetting procedures. We shouldn’t admit people until they can meet our security screening standards.
Be it resolved that the United States fully repeals the travel ban due to the discriminatory effects it has on some people. The travel ban is a terrible executive order that was put into place by President Trump on january 27th of 2017. The travel ban was put into place to protect the United States by not allowing any citizen from seven muslim countries to enter. These seven countries are; Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. These countries were targeted due to supposed risks of these countries harboring extremists groups such as Isis or Al-qaeda. According to the article “Trump's executive order: Who does travel ban affect?,” by BBC News, “ The travel ban suspensions the US refugee program for 120 days, places and indefinite ban on Syrian refugees and suspends all visas of incoming immigrants of the seven banned countries” (BBC News). The seven countries are heavily muslim, however most of the people in these countries are no threat to the United States in any way. Why is the United States completely discriminating the islamic religion when we are founded on the basis of religious freedom. Not everyone who is muslim is a terrorists so why are we punishing a lot of good people for the actions of very few. Most of the terrorist attacks that have happened since 9/11 have been carried out by a U.S citizen, so are we going to start deporting all muslim U.S citizens? The islamic religion is not the problem it's the radicalistic idea that some people
