Advancement and innovation are not always welcomed by all, as there is always a fear of the unknown, however modifications and changes occur with and without our approval. These advancements are powered by the desire for more revenue, innovations in technology, the human desire for communication, and the aftermath of the industrial revolution. These occurrences have in term have led to the altering of where we live, where we invest our labour power, how we work and communicate with others throughout the globe.

As you look around the world today, just about everyone you run into has a cell phone. The brand of the cell phone or the size of the phone is irrelevant because, in the end, they are all mainly used for communication. Cell phones bring a new outlook on communication. Behind a screen, cell phones allow a person to be whoever they would like to be and say anything they would like to say. Cell phones give you the opportunity to exclude from the real life conversation and allow you to type exactly what you want to say and to go back and edit to make yourself sound the way you want to sound. Personally, I feel that this opportunity decreases one’s communication abilities and makes a negative impact on the self-confidence to communicate. Cell phones have negatively changed communication in ways such as a decrease in direct social interaction, an increase in anxiety and stress, and eventually causing isolation and alienation.

First of all, communication has changed in the past 20 years because of the invention of the cell phone. People can now call anywhere in just a few minutes. Before cell phones, people used landlines to talk to each other. For that, they had to be at home. Furthermore, texting has become a norm in society today. In the past, people had to send letters and wait weeks for a reply, but life has become so easy with texting. Like texting, social media apps like Facebook and Twitter make it easy to share people's lives with others. Previously, people had to meet up and tell each other about what they did. In the last few decades, cell phones have been a major part of the change in communication.

My final project will predominantly focus on how communication has evolved through the addition of novel, fast-paced technologies, and how this has affected macrosocial interaction in adverse manners. The foundation of this assignment is to both inform and substantiate that fact that technology has not only changed communication through its various processes but that the very ways we think about communication are also rapidly shifting as a result.

There is much debate about how modern technology has affected the way we communicate and if it has improved or been detrimental to the art of communication.
