Sustainable development
A secure supply of energy resources is generally agreed to be a necessary but not sufficient requirement for development within a society. Furthermore, sustainable development demands a sustainable supply of energy resources that, in the long term, is readily and sustainably available at reasonable cost and can be utilized for all required tasks without causing negative societal impacts. Supplies of such energy resources as fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas) and uranium are generally acknowledged to be finite; other energy sources such as sunlight, wind and falling water are generally considered renewable and therefore sustainable over the relatively long term. Wastes (convertible to useful energy forms through, for example, waste-to-energy incineration facilities) and biomass fuels are also usually viewed as sustainable energy sources. In general, the implications of these statements are numerous, and depend on how sustainable is defined Importance of renewable energy resources and technologies for sustainable development
The exploitation of renewable energy resources and technologies is a key component of sustainable development. There are three significant reasons for it as follows.
• They have much less environmental impact compared to other sources of energy since there is no any energy source with zero environmental impact. There are a variety of choices available in practice that a shift to renewable could provide a far cleaner energy
Energy is an important part of life producing the power of movement, heat, and production of electricity in many different ways. Therefore, choosing the correct source of energy is important for the environment and humans. Renewable energy that produces electricity never runs out, causing a lower environmental impact. Solar, Biomass, Wind, Geothermal, and Hydropower energy should be used globally to produce electricity. On the other hand, producing electricity from nonrenewable energy sources can be very harmful to humans and the environment. Humans can easily be dependent on it, which may not be the best option when it comes to finance, efficiency, sustainability and more. Approximately 52% of the US electricity comes from polluting sources like natural gas, oil, nuclear, and hydropower that have a lot of disadvantages effecting the environment in a negative way.
Renewables are better environmentally than any other power source under specific circumstances. The two most touted renewable energy sources are wind power and solar power. The specific circumstances in which they are better are when the wind is blowing and the sun is shining. Unfortunately, neither the wind nor the sun can be guaranteed to function for any specific date or time. The sun can only be guaranteed not to shine for approximately twelve hours a day and wind has no guarantees at all. Also, technology is not advanced enough to adequately harness the power provided by the sun and wind when they are available. It would take five hundred times the amount of land to build a solar plant with the same output as a nuclear plant (Oliver Hospers 24-25).
With the rise of nonrenewable fuels prices and the estimated decline of availability in the not so distant future it is very clear that the only answer to this problem is to implement the use of renewable resources. Renewable resources are very versatile and can reduce pollution of the environment and can in the long
An important role of them is to generate energy from natural resources, for instance solar thermal. It is a solar water heater that uses the power of the sun to heat water thus reducing the amount of gas or electricity required. In fact, according to Education Scotland, solar power plants in Spain have generated 3 gigawatts of power which represents 2.8% of Spain’s energy needs (Solar – Renewable Energy, 2016). There are many renewable energy technologies that can prevent acid rain, urban smog, pollution and the burning of coal. Canada has improve on its uses of fossil fuel, the uses of renewable energy grew from 2% to 11% (Healing, 2016). Therefore, if using renewable energy sources will give us the luxurious of being able to have electricity, heat our homes, transport, and protect the environment, then why not use it.
Renewable energy is considered an environmental friendly way of producing energy; according to http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/index/tech.html, “in contrast, the many types of renewable energy resources-such as wind and solar energy-are constantly replenished and will never
Renewable energy sources are good for the environment but some people frown upon the idea of having renewable energy sources. They are more expensive than fossil fuels and nonrenewable energy sources. A Lot of energy needs to be put in both the research and manufacturing of nonrenewable resources. Renewable energy sources are cheaper because of the energy source already having the components in order
Generating and supplying more green energy in the US can have a big impact in the environment and in our economy. With more green energy resources a big amount disasters that affect our environment can be reduced. Such disasters include oil spills, nuclear leaks and the emission of harmful pollutants. Electric power plants are one of the biggest contributors to pollution in the country due to the amount of carbon and sulfur dioxides that are released into the air. Carbon dioxide emitted into the air is confirmed to contribute to global warming and sulfur dioxide causes acid rain, which can kill plants and animals in lakes and rivers. In comparison, green energy is generated in much more natural and harmless methods that don’t affect our environment. Renewable energy wind, solar, geothermal, hydroelectric, and biomass provides substantial benefits for our climate, and our health.
By 2030 the world is expected to be more economically friendly and efficient when it comes to resources. Advanced technologies are being created to accommodate to the worlds high demand of energy. With all the emerging innovations, are world is becoming something far greater. Renewable resources are the key, they are the
Staring with a good effect of renewable energy that is protect environment. Renewable energy can protect environment in terms of non-renewable energy. For example, people fell trees for making fire, it is give a huge damage for environment because trees can absorb carbon dioxide and protect soil. If people over-logging, that world lead to soil erosion. Then, there is easier to happen natural disaster, such as waterflood. Alternatively, renewable energy is better than non-renewable energy in environment. Take wind energy for example, wind energy is in
Renewable energy is currently one of the most preferred energy sources worldwide. Over the past few decades, there has been a raging debate on the capacity of renewable energy to meet the needs of the society. Despite the fact that it has public backing and several benefits over other sources of energy such as fossil fuels, renewable technologies is still doubted by scientists. Being characterised as a type of energy that cannot meet the energy needs of the
Sustainability can be defined as a long and creative process which creates positive and lasting results. Sustainability is a beneficial progress that consists of meeting people’s needs without conflicting the ability for future generations to meet their own needs. The change in resources will enhance both current and future generations to meet human needs. Sustainability is an important part that is presented in Ford’s overall image. At Ford, sustainability is a business model that involves long term conservation and enhances environmental, social and financial capital (“Sustainability Report”, 2014). There are three main reasons that explain how Ford is improving the importance of sustainability/social responsibility within their company compared to BMW.
This is an approach towards considering the finite resources of the Earth. Its goal is defined as working towards developing means by which the needs of the present are met without compromising the ability of the future generations to meet their own needs.
Innovation is the core principle behind the consistency in energy today. Throughout history, various intellectuals have revolutionized the world through their creative methods of cultivating energy. In recent years, people have witnessed some of the greatest advancements and have reached unprecedented levels in technology. These technological advancements are only possible using energy sources. An energy source is a system which creates energy in a certain way. The lifestyle of the future is determined by the energy sources practiced today. Each energy source has distinct characteristics making it more valuable than others. Examples of positive characteristics in energy sources are availability and environmental friendliness. Thus, the most viable energy sources for the future are natural gas, nuclear power, and renewable resources. These energy sources possess the best attributes for an improvement in mankind’s lifestyle.
The conventional energy sources such as oil, natural gas, coal, or nuclear are finite and generate pollution. Alternatively, the renewable energy sources like wind, fuel cell, solar,
