The songs played on the radio today have changed significantly from popular songs of the past. The same underlying message, however, remains. Most music is still used to condition people to sin. After, hearing multiple songs portraying drugs, drunkenness, lust, fornication, and numerous other sins as normal and acceptable, people may think nothing of them. They’ll sing along, dancing to the uplifting tune, not realizing exactly what they are listening to. Then, there are others who realize that what they’re doing is wrong, but simply do not care. They continue to listen to these songs anyways. A major problem with the songs of today is how they portray love. The love mentioned in these songs would be more aptly referred to as lust, as that …show more content…
Partners aren’t patient with each other. They don’t understand that perfection is unachievable and become upset when their partner missteps even slightly. Couples don’t help and support each other. Rihanna has written a couple of songs about abusive or harmful relationships. In Love on the Brain Rihanna says that their love “beats her black and blue” and that her man takes pleasure in putting her together just to break her apart again. She knows that their relationship is perilous and harmful to her, but she can’t help wanting to be with him anyways. Ariana Grande, in Side to Side, says that she knows the guys she wants won’t be good for her in the long run, but she still wants him. She’s heard about his dangerous reputation, but she doesn’t care. They must keep their relationship secret because they know it’s wrong and that people wouldn’t approve. These songs fail to show the true danger of such relationships. Relationships where partners are kind, supportive, and treat each other with love are not portrayed. There are multitudes of songs about the frustration of love and about partners who are simply indifferent. Strong, deep, and true love connections seem to be nonexistent. Love is seen as a short term; after a partner takes what they need and can get no more they are free to leave. There’s no room for commitment and …show more content…
There is no looking out for each other’s best interests. Love is self-seeking; it’s about satisfying your own desires and passions. It doesn’t matter how the other person feels. This can be seen in the way that songs are apt to focus on the sexual aspect of love. Both people are only concerned about satisfying themselves. Relationships are centered around sex; without it the relationship wouldn’t survive. The Bible shows how sinful this is. It goes against the seventh commandment, “Thou shalt not commit adultery”. God wants relationships to be built on Him. He wants partners to help strengthen each other’s faith. They should be respectful, loving, patient and humble with one another. There is a great need for dedication to the relationship. Both people should want to make the relationship work and should greatly love each other. The love that God has for His people is the perfect example of love. It is a perfect Biblical love that will never fail. That is the kind of love couples should strive for. The one night stands that media and society prefer to put emphasis on are sinful and unnecessary. Arrogance, cruelness, and a self-serving attitude don’t belong in a

In today’s society, music controls the way we live our lives. The influence that music has on society has broadened throughout the years and with social media being one of the world’s top priority, the fan base and spectrum for music in general has expanded significantly. Music is used to express feelings, moods, circumstances, experiences, knowledge, and so much more. With this being the case, the lyrics of any song can be interpreted differently by each and every listener. Many song lyrics give positive messages, promoting well-being, whiles others give negative messages, promoting violence, criminal behaviors, sexual contents, and disrespect towards others. With this being said, music reflects what the public demands, and in many cases the negative messages are often times what sells more than those music giving positive messages.
In a world where vapid bubble-gum pop songs garner the most Youtube hits, radio requests, and overall attention from today’s youth, it is shocking to think that a pop music icon could release such a thought-provoking song. Contrary to the quintessential 21st century radio hits, Rihanna’s 2008 single entitled “Disturbia” challenges listeners to look beyond captivating beats and an irrefutably alluring hook. Beneath the rhythmically appealing instrumentals lies a series of ominous lyrics that would assuredly frighten the listeners if they comprehended these lines on a deeper level. The speaker explores themes of mental illness and Hollywood infamy and employs a desperate tone that begs the listener for assistance.
Its influence on their behavior appears to depend on how the sex is portrayed, researchers found. Songs depicting men as “sex-driven studs,” women as sex objects and with explicit references to sex acts are more likely to trigger early sexual behavior than those where sexual references are more veiled and relationships appear more committed, the study found. Most song lyrics don 't discuss dangers of sexual activity, such as unplanned pregnancy or sexually

Popular music is often one of the best lenses we have through which to view our own cultural orientation. Many of the artistic and experimental shifts in popular music have mirrored changes in our own society. For instance, the emergence of Elvis Presley as a public figure would signal the start of a sexual revolution and the growth in visibility of a rebellious youth culture. Similarly, the folk and psychedelic music of the 1960s was closely entangled with the Civil Rights, anti-war and social protest movements. In this regard, we can view popular music as an artifact through which to better understand the time and place in which it is produced. In light of this, the state of popular music today may suggest troubling things about our society.
Has it ever occurred to you that this generation tries to search for the next best thing? Is it like a business man try to look for the next best thing that everyone is buying? I mean if other people do it and there perfectly fine doing it we assume that we could do it and we think we will be just fine as well. Take those examples and try to use it with music. Do you think that what we listen to can affect us in any way or not? Maybe and maybe not, but some of us tend to get influenced by what they put into their heads. Not everything that we see or do can import negative thought or feelings, but listening is a part of that category as well. Therefore, what these artists are trying to do is trying to use a rhetorical device to tell us that

There is a certain confounding bias or misconception in relationships as they, with closer analysis, usually lead to the idea that even honest characters act disingenuously towards their partners. But before one delves deep into philosophical thought on such vast topics of love and genuineness, it must first be defined. Genuine is defined from a simpld dictionary search as “truly what something is said to be; authentic” or “sincere” in emotions, while love is defined as a person’s “feel [for] a deep romantic or sexual attachment.” Additionally, from a religious standpoint, “love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not
Through new technology including the ability to record music, the emergence of Tin Pan Alley, and the immigration boom, America soon developed a new sinful musical culture. 19th Century American Pop music, although tame in today’s standards, was considered to be morally corrupting and created a new naughtier America. In the transition from classical romantic ballads to the syncopated, “blackness” was pop like Ragtime music took quite a large evolution. From the dance halls for the working class, cabaret for the middle class, and high class refined dancing, the explosion of Ragtime music effected all types of Americans. Due to the immigration boom and the introduction of mobility and leisure time, class lines began to blur, causing the middle and working class to bump elbows more often than ever before. Often times, such incidences would occur in entertainment venues like Coney Island or even run of the mill vaudeville shows. Modern music was can be identified by its’ lascivious subject matter, which reflected the evolving ideals of Americans. One song that illustrated this is “I Love My Wife; But Oh, You Kid!”, which spoke of a man’s desire to cheat on his wife, highlighting the new sexually aware younger population. Although it’s tone and composition were similar to earlier, classic, love songs the subject matter and morals
While many people would easily agree that music is an art form that comes from the emotional complexity and passions of human beings, Aristotle’s truth that “music that rouses ignoble passions distorts a person's character” is debatable. The claim that “the wrong kind of music makes the wrong kind of person, and the right kind tends to make the right kind of person” is a paradoxical statement that changes meaning and credibility depending on the reader’s perspective. While morality has been an integral part of religious music throughout history, there is no direct correlation that a person’s listening choices reflect their personal belief structures or that the mental health or character of the listener is defined by their choice of music
Watch the classical film Grease and one can understand how relationships function in Western Society. The film tells a story of a boy (Danny) and a girl (Sandy) who falls in love. Through a series of misunderstandings they break up, but still somehow care for each other. Through ballads such as Summer Night’s that are still popular today, the film shows how differently males and females view relationships. Films like Grease are like a mirror, reflecting societal values and how it socializes its members. It makes it clear that in relationships, males are socialized to view relationships as mostly a physical, sexual endeavor, while females view it as a perpetual bond –a deeper connection between the two individuals within a relationship.
Sociological perspectives explains love relationships as not perfect but a working progress. A commitment which relies on continuous maintenance and reassurance. Love relationship practices and investments are configured in experiences that will be shared in the past, present and in the future.
Do you ever wonder what is the meaning behind what you so proudly sing whenever you hear it? Music is an art form of culture which organizes sound with times It first came around in prehistoric times, however, as times passes, music is drastically changing. As a result, in the last decades music has experienced drastic changes in the themes they are talking about. These changes are due to the generations and what they are living, political and social actions of the time. For example, the decade of the 80s was the rise of hip-hop and rap music from a local phenomenon to a worldwide known genre of music. Previously, a crack cocaine epidemic had stroke major cities in the USA and it coincided with the rise of hip-hop in black communities as these
Summer hit “Blurred Lines” is one of the radio’s most played songs currently. The song is placed at number one on America’s top 40 charts for the week of September 14th. While it is popular, the lyrics paint a story of someone who wants the singer, but is a good girl. The message of the song is blurring lines of morality. Not only is the song soliciting sexual themes, but it goes as far as using derogatory names towards the said good girl. Also, the song has strong themes of guilting someone into sex, claiming that not many can refuse T.I.’s pimping. The song
