Be Cautious With Your Usage In recent years, social media has become a more popular form of entertainment among people. It is a network platform that allows people to connect with one another. People can share their idea, creation, experience, or anything they want. There is a feature that allows others to give their opinion or thought by commenting on people’s post and provide both positive and negative criticism to the creators. While social media may be a fun and enjoyable device that can bring satisfaction, what most people did not realize is the fact that social media is harmful and can potentially cause many different health-related issues. It has become a source of distraction during class and a negative influence that is constantly affecting teen’s mind. One thing I noticed is that students around the school are using their phone more frequently, mainly used to go on social media. According to a study published in the academic journal “Computers in Human Behavior”, participants who spent a large amount of time online displayed more symptoms of clinical depression(Onefile). This shows that social media usage is linked to people’s mental health. Social media acts like a highly addictive drug, it creates a temporary sense of enjoyment of enjoyment and happiness to teens. It is the sense that people are getting that makes teen use social media more repetitively. After having the same feeling over and over again, the effectiveness of social media will decrease. Until

Despite the fact that we’re already in the 21st century, society continues to show signs of progress and development strongly leaning towards the direction of advancement, constantly evolving. This pattern is no different from the world of advertising, as it has also evolved through the years and quite recently an unexpected technological innovation took the world by storm. It made such a tremendous impact that eventually led to the transformation of traditional marketing, and it’s no other than social media that we all learned to love.
The internet and cell phones are standard in most homes today, and their presence means we can socialize globally. There are no limits on how we can send messages and images without creating personal issues. The social media networks have vastly expanded and have made for negative problems from politics, entertainment, athletics, and amongst family and friends. “Social media can be broken down as interacting with people and sharing information through outlets such as the internet, TV, or radio” (Nations). Electronic media has evolved from the days of just having a home phone for communicating with family and friends.
Technological advances in our world over the past decade have impacted our society tremendously. With these advances have come new social media websites that people all around the world use in their everyday life. Social media started out as a means of communication from person to person but has drastically grown to be even a source of news and a reporting channel. The world can be updated on events that occur within seconds through the use of websites and cellular apps with the most popular today being Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The increased speed of reporting news and other things however does not necessarily determine all things posted via social media to be valid. With the click of a few buttons on your phone, anybody has the capability to post a status or tweet that has the potential of being viewed by thousands to millions of people. The article Tweeting Fast Matters, But Only if I Think About It: Information Updates on Social Media uses the popular platform Twitter in a study to determine whether or not there is a correlation between the speed of updates and how people determine source credibility (Spence, Lachlan, & Edwards, 55). Twitter and other social media platforms are useful in reporting news fast and keeping people connected but not all information shared online should be assumed true.
In 2006, Jack Dorsey, the creator of Twitter, had the idea to launch an application that would allow friends to direct message without having to use text messaging through a cell phone carrier. The biggest advantage for this creation in technology was the fact that cell phone coverage had been going up in price, especially the use of text messaging when a user goes over her limit. Dorsey and his colleagues began work on this application only to run into issue with one of the world’s largest companies, Apple, producing the same application. Once Apple released Imessage Dorsey decided to transform Twitter into a rough version of what everyone knows the application to be today. Dorsey and his team turned Twitter into a chronological board of posts that people can post up to 140 keyboard characters to update their followers on their most recent actions, opinions, or anything on the writer’s mind. Since 2006 the application has grown in popularity to have hundreds of millions of users. In recent years, we have seen public figures that may surprise anyone to regularly be using Twitter. One of the most notable public figures to begin using Twitter was Pope Francis. Also, more interestingly we have seen the Presidential use of the social media platform begin with President Barrack Obama. However, with the election of President Donald Trump, the nation is seeing an entirely new use of the application to get the word out. President Trump’s use of the social media

This addiction causes teenagers to not focus on the good things in life. For example, when teenagers go to family functions and holiday dinners they are completely focused on their phones rather than visiting and enjoying time with their family. Real life relationships are excluded from teenagers lives because they are too involved with social media. Social media is causing several problems in teenagers and parents lives. Teenagers should limit their time on social media and monitor what they post to prevent possible mental and physical self-harm, resulting in a decrease of suicides and cyberbullying.

The project aim at teenagers, therefore sample group is between 13 to 19. I will set the sample sizes in 50 participants since it is easy to identity and more precision. If a sample sizes increase, it is very hard to estimate and become not accurate. Also, I’m worry about the extremes data can’t make a balance out, so the project prefers small sample sizes. It can take less effort to gain and maintain people, it is easy to produce significant results and comfortable to find a group of people. I will obtain samples from friends or friends’ sister and brother.
